Studio 365-
replaces Club Libby Lu. Now Open!
Coming this summer, Studio Disney 365 in Downtown Disney will bring out the inner rock star in tweens and transform them into glamourous celebrities — just like some of their favorite Disnsey Channel stars. The star treatment may also include a photo session with the “paparazzi” or a freestyle dance moment with the other new “stars.”

Sept 28, 2009 update-
Ridemakerz- Opening Early Oct 2009 for the holiday season. Takes over part of Department 56's old location.

MousePlanet reader John Garcia shared with us a job listing for Ridemakerz, a new tenant coming to Downtown Disney (link). Ridemakerz lets customers build and customize a model car, assemble the car in the store and take it home the same day. You start with a base car ($10 and up) and customize it with tires, wheels, engine noise, decals, running boards and more. The shop offers a variety of makes and models ranging from Corvettes and Mustangs to the Mini Cooper and Scion Xb. For an additional $25, you can add a radio control function. It all adds up, and finished cars with all of the accessories can total well over $80. More information is available on the company's Web site (http://www.ridemakerz.com/RZ/Pages/AboutRz/ourcompany/default.aspx).

Ridemakerz is partly owned by fellow Downtown Disney tenant Build-a-Bear, and will set up shop just a few doors away, in a portion of the space vacated earlier this year by Department 56. Like Build-a-Bear, Ridemakerz offers parties and special events - including "team building" events for companies. The store is scheduled to be open as soon as October 6th, and is currently slated to operate only through the holiday season.

A place where urban art inspired product "intersects" with a Disney creative edge. This raw, unfinished industrial style space will showcase a mix of Disney inspired art created by local and underground artists. Also up for grabs is cutting edge apparel, pop culture novelties, vinyl figures, collectibles and more.

D-Street takes over Illuminations

http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=133493
It looks like Disney couldn't lease out the vacant Illuminations space in time for the holiday season, so a new Disney-operated store called D-Street is expected to open there within a month.

D-Street is supposed to be Disneyland's answer to Walt Disney World's TrenD store... which was supposed to be WDW's answer to Disneyland's Vault 28. As it's been described to me, D-Street will carry pretty much the same type of edgy, urban merchandise currently offered at both Vault 28 in Downtown Disney and the Fortuosity Shop inside Disneyland. I don't know if Disney eventually plans to close Vault 28 in favor of the larger D-Street space, or if D-Street is only a temporary fix.

I'm still not sure why they didn't use one of the spaces for a Disney holiday store, something Downtown Disney could definitely use.

In other Downtown Disney news, Little Miss Matched moved into their new space this week, and should reopen tomorrow. Ridemakerz is moving in as we speak, and an employee said they are trying to get open by Saturday.

Rumors-

And once Downtown Disney opens the gourmet cupcake place and boutique pet store that are on the way, they'll be pretty much done for 2010 as well.

Certainly not stores I'll patronize. But I'm glad the space is filling again. There's still room for some more new places. The additional daily traffic from the new Grand Californian addition (Sept) should give Downtown Disney a small boost. I'm told out of town visitors spend quite a bit more per person at the shops & restaurants.

Downtown Disney at Disneyland has totally lost any interest for me. Illuminations and Dept. 56 were 2 of the stores I liked, and now its all so geared to childrens stores, It just bores me. Even the bookstore has become lame. And Marcelines has stopped carrying any selection of fudge too.

I just got back from DL Tuesday & only liked WOD & Disney vault. It looks like they're relying on the kids to get their parents to spend money & thats the only demographic. They need a sports store with Disney stuff like Team Disney at WDW's DTD.

We did eat at most of the resturants there but I wouldn't visit the area regularly if I was a local like I did in WDW.

My wife said the exact same thing about a Team Disney type store.
We also mainly just use the restaurants, with World of Disney being the only store we ever spend in.

Heres another new store which will only be around till mid January 2010. Then it will be taken over by Ridmakerz.

This will leave only one vacant store front to the former home of Illuminations.
