New concept art unveiled for Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Yes, clearly that's what I was saying. Sheesh.

The knee jerk inferiority complex reaction that so commonly pops up around here is truly annoying.

Anyway, what I'm saying is, is that a child learns to enjoy what they are exposed to. If they are exposed to 50 foot tall cartoon characters, they are going to think that is awesome. If they are exposed to something else, it's very possible they will think that is awesome.
Surely. I'm just impressed that there are 4-year olds reading architecture textbooks.

I just think the characters are a safer bet. There are more movies and Saturday morning cartoons featuring animated characters than there are architecture specials. And this isn't really Disney responding to a "fad"...kids have enjoyed animated features for decades (and adults! The story of the Lion King is a little too complicated for young kids to fully understand, I think). Following a fad would have involved building Disney's All-Star Power Rangers Resort in the '90s, which they, thankfully, did not. They've mostly chosen timeless characters, which they also have been designing rides around since 1955 (though there admittedly is more of a character-driven focus now). Most of Disney's resorts borrow a theme from the theme parks; the values mostly borrow from Fantasyland. Not a crime, I don't think.

That could not be further from the truth. If Fantasyland was the model for the Value Resorts, then there would be no texture, materials, or architectural detials. The queue for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh would be earth tone or papered walls with some pictures of woods and scenes from the film. Fantasyland attempts to bring you some place, the Value just attempt to remind you of something, they have no time or place to their experience.

I agree with you on the queue, but it is also new. Have you ridden the ride lately? Very simple figures with minimal movement and cutouts from cardboard. Finish it with bright paint in the background with little texture.

Looks pretty similar to me...and your description of how the ride "would be" is a pretty accurate description of how it is. It has an E-ticket queue to complement a C-ticket ride.

The mediums might be similar, but the intent is totally different. The Fantasyland dark rides are still about entering the story. They are what the Values could be, not what they are. Art of Animation seems to be moving more in line with the proper intentions, but there seems to be no explanation for our diminished size.

Why do we naturally assume all kids are most drawn to the most tackiest and gaudy design possible? Oh well. It seems like I'm the only person who doesn't like this. When I was a kid I thought the Contemporary and Poly were about the coolest things ever. Giant fiberglass characters were something you'd see at those Jellystone Campgrounds or Carowinds.

But, obviously Disney is giving the market what it wants...

When I was a kid I was obsessed with the beach! Still am.

So growing up our Resort of choice was always Caribbean Beach!! Bright fun colored buildings with playgrounds, pirate stuff, beaches, tons of pools, and the then only pool with a water slide!!

Values, if designed for families with kids, should have waterslides at their pools. I still don't get why Disney wouldn't put a waterslide at ALL of its Resorts--it's Disney World afterall!!

For whatever reason, a waterslide is viewed as an amenity that the value resort rates are not sufficient to cover (and I have issue with the amenities provided at ALL of the Disney resorts, but that is for another thread).

interesting back and forths. I never got why the Value resorts were so tacky. I don't enjoy them at all. And for some reason it seems like people are ALOT louder at the Values than they are the Mods or Deluxe.

Anyway. With the increased room capacity, I hope we see some other expansions around our beloved theme parks!

Part of that may be the materials in use. The Value Resorts have a lot of hard surfaces and minimal foliage, so there is not a lot there to absorb sound.
