The Epcot Manifesto
As most everyone around here is an adult (except in the summer when all hell breaks loose), I think we often lose sight of something: that a big part of Walt Disney World is captivating the fancy of children. I'm not suggesting everything should be squarely aimed at kids or that all we need kiddie coasters, but I do think the Value Resorts have their place.

I know if we would have stayed at them when I was a kid, I likely would have loved exploring them. As an adult, sure, the Polynesian is much more to my liking. But for kids, giant toys and figures of their favorite Disney characters are pretty appealing!

I totally agree. As an adult, I love having a fully enriched "theme" for my resort, with all the bells and whistles and theming in every nook and cranny of the resort. Walking into some of the Deluxe Resorts can be breathtaking, and I look around wonderstruck for long periods of time.

Now, as a parent, I did quite enjoy myself at the All Star Movies this past trip, due to the pure joy my kid got out of the "BIG PONGO!" and all the things around that resort that she loved. As a parent vacationer, I care less about puttering around the resort and looking at all the theming, and more about going to the parks (ok I always cared more about the parks, but I always enjoyed poking around the resort as well, which was not a high priority at the All Stars). Most kids aren't going to say "Dad, can we go back to that one place that made it feel like we are in 1920's Florida???". It's going to be "Lets go back and see that huge Buzz!".

Bringing that thought back on topic, I'm very happy to see a bit more in theme here in the concept art. It's almost like a happy medium. Big characters and more in-your-face themes for the kids, but a bit more enveloping than what I saw at the current All Stars, which was basically 1-2 oversized pieces per building, one or 2 little outside pieces, and some cutouts on the edge of the building. If my family can't afford to go moderate in the future, this (looks like) is the kind of place that I'd be happy to stay at.

While the Grand Floridian may not have anything as blatantly "kid" friendly as a Buzz statue I have to believe (from experience) that Stormalong Bay, the Contemporary's arcade and The Neverland Club have some serious appeal to children too. I'm strongly going to disagree that other (particularly Deluxe) resorts are less appealing to youngsters because of the more subtle execution of their themes. Kids can get a kick out of seeing oversized versions of characters they like, but other things can do that too.

Mine wasn't intended to be a commentary on appeal per se, but rather a comment on quality.

With the introduction of the Value resorts Disney made a decided effort to move down market. They outside vendors scooping up dollars in this market segment and they made a conscious effort to go get those dollars. Personally, I think this was the wrong move and this drive down searching for dollars has lowered quality around the resort as a whole. Which sucks. Others, particularly shareholders, think it's the greatest thing ever.

You left out the Animal Kingdom Lodge/Villas which my kids (ages 16/13/4) have loved all 3 times we stayed there!

LOVE the theming inside the rooms! So fun! I wonder if you will be able to book a single theme or if it will be luck of the draw.

For the record, my foot tastes delicious.

I think we can all definitely agree (including myself) that the new suites are going to have actual "exterior" windows. Wow - never would have expected it.

From what I can gather in the mock-up photos jt04 linked to, they don't appear to be in "shotgun" format. This means they'll have an interior corridor with suites on either side (reverse of what the values have now). I guess that means they'll have central air, like deluxe rooms, instead of an under-window unit.

Obviously the buildings that have already been built will be Mermaid, while the suites will be in the buildings not yet constructed. They'll have to adjust any plumbing rough-ins they made to accommodate the bathrooms, which will no longer be back-to-back. I still predict they'll be toward the interior of the building, closest to the suite entry doors (ala deluxe).

This place is going to be expensive. Artwork aside, if the rooms really look like those mock-ups, the theming is on par with Moderate or even Deluxe rooms. They look amazing, and I think the price will reflect that.

I think it was you and I who got into this debate. I was the one who said the family suites would be enclosed while the standards would be open. Just sayin'. haha. :)

And for the record, this looks awesome! I am so glad to see the Cars section. It looks like we are getting bits from DCA after all (which I would assume that because of this, we won't be getting Cars land). But, honestly, they all look great! Can't wait to see them. The rooms look great!

This is exactly what WDW has been missing FOREVER!

A FUN themed kids hotel. Really, would a 3 year old give a crap about staying at the Poly, GF, Beach Club, WL or any other Deluxe? NONONONO!

We stayed at the All-Star our first family trip because NO other hotel looked like it had kids in mind.

I really hate the look of the Nemo/Lion King rooms, too garish and plastic-y. I really like the look of the Cars room though. Subtle but not "HEY LOOKS IT'S MATER!!!" with the decor.

Yup....that was definitely me :)

Never would I have guessed that Disney would take a new Value resort to this level. It's going to be incredible - and really oversteps the boundaries of a Value.

After seeing this concept art, the art for the FLE and actually experiencing the new Pooh queue, I must say that I'm starting to believe that we may be entering an "Imagineering Decade." This work is incredible and, it seems, every time they release something new, it looks incredible and, when the finished product comes out (Pooh Queue, Maurice's snack cart), it delivers on the art and then some. I think we are in for a lot more pleasant surprises.

...
Can they go back and make the All Star Resorts or Pop Century look this awesome?

Sure they can. And when they start getting guest complaints about the other value rooms after experiencing the AoA rooms, maybe they'll start a gradual refurb. It would also bring the other 4 Values up a notch, to create a level playing field in the Value category.

I'd have to disagree with this, i really like the Nemo room and the lion king room because its different and fun and thats what the entire resort is supposed to be. It makes you feel like you can walk outside and be on pride rock or the E.A.C.:lol::lol:

However, the cars room is subtle, but its cold looking. Just very dull and tumbleweed-ish. Much like radiator springs which is....boring? Could be any traditional hotel room along a road with a poster and a cone lamp. Yippee ill pay for the other rooms pass on the cozy cone...
