Hi - my family have realized that while we love Disney, we're not really into the parks and are mostly interested in the experience of Disney. We're looking for a nice hotel with a pool and amenities. Recommendations?

Aulani, Hilton Head, Vero Beach, or Disney Cruise Line.

100% serious.
HHI doesn't have a ton of "in your face" Disney theming but I agree with this anyway. I'm heading there next month and it's one of my favorite Disney resorts. HHI has some of the best CMs I've ever interacted with at at Disney hotel. Also the restaurants in the area are wonderful.

Yacht Club/Beach Club is a great resort area. One of the better pools on property, a beach, access to the BoardWalk with dining options, walkable to Skyliner station, EPCOT and Studios, and just a great place to hang out.

Pretty sure they meant in Orlando, genius…

So if that was the ask -
I will say animal kingdom lodge is probably the best designed/executed hotel ever built by Disney…
But I concur that yacht/beach/boardwalk are the best Enclave that still gives you thematic feel.
You also get access to other hotel areas now with the ski lift

They're not especially relaxing though. Their main benefit is their central location to the parks. The pool is a madhouse, I find it impossible to relax there.
Agree, the resort itself and theme is OK. The pool is supposed to be the main draw, but way too many blind spots and dangers with kids. Case in point. Want to ride the big slide? You have to actually leave the pool area to get to the stairs to ride it, who thought that was a good idea? Want to go in the "lazy river" ? Sure, just make sure you understand it's depths are 5 to 8ft and churns the swimmer around, again not a great design for smaller kids.

Why? I can't think of a single reason for a person to prefer to visit Orlando, Florida that isn't related to theme parks.

There are nice pools, warm weather, and pleasant experiences, including Disney experiences, in places that don't require you to pay a huge premium to stay in proximity to parks that you're not attending.

I know you overpaid for your dvc…you don’t have to provide cover by suggesting every Non wdw place 😂

Nobody is going to Aulani 🤪

…oh you’re in deep then

How often do you actually go?
World once a year, Aulani every other year, Cruise every other year.

Ish.

Our kids' school vacations have been attached to Easter for a few years in a row and we won't go to WDW in those crowds, so Cruise and Vero Beach have been good options since they can only get so crowded no matter the season.

When you say family, do you mean young kids? If not...

Honestly, if just the two of us were going and not spending much time in parks where transportation would be an issue....we really, really liked Gran Destino.
It's gorgeous.
The two bars in GDT itself are great - Dahlia and Barcelona Lounge. Plus a few other bars across the property.
Toledo and Three Bridges are great restaurants.
The main pool is nice plus a lot of quiet pools that are usually empty.
Yes, you have to take the bus everywhere (which is why we really don't stay there - we go to parks every day) - but the ride is very short to each destination.
The actual grounds of CSR are very nice.
Atmosphere is pretty fun at night - when we were there last a Spanish Guitar player was outside a few nights a week.

Best part? The price isn't bad at all.
