My first trip to IOA...

Hey everybody! I just got back from my first trip to IOA and I thought I would share my experiences.

I went for one day, and boy, we filled that day up. I had a real good time there. I wasnt sure what to expect, but everything there was new to me, which I think yiou can all imagine would be pretty much like Disney opening 10 new e-tickets at the same time.

My favorite land had to be Toon Lagoon. I like the whole twisty, crazy mood of the place, especially the Jay Ward area with Dudly Doo Right (Here's a guy who's seen way too many episodes of Rocky and Bullwinkle :D ). Although Spider Man was great, I would have to say my two favorite rides were Dudley and Popeye. Call me crazy, but I just loved them, especially the water guns on the Olive Ship....perfect for getting revenge after riding Bildge Rat Bardges!!

Somewhat similar in architectural concept and anoter favorite land of mine was Seuss Landing. Although the only ride I went on and really wanted to do was Cat in the Hat (which is great), the whole area is just really fun/funny. Its just like walking through one of my old Dr Seuss Books!

I enjoyed Posideon's Fury and the Sinbad show, but I dont think they were up to the same standards as some of Disney's shows. ALthough I gotta say, the burning witch in Sinbad was pretty cool :animwink:

The coasters, Hulk and the Dragons.were a lot of fun. Dr Doom's fearfall could have been better (much higher). But I gotta say, and I am sure I am just repeating what everyone has been hearing all the time, that Spider Man is woderful. Just like the billboard says, "It the best theme park ride anywhere"! They really went all out on that one.

Oh, and Jurrassic Park RIver Adventure was fun too :D

I have always respected Universal for being one of the the only companies to create a place up to Disney's standards. I still prefer MGM Studios as my favorite park in Orlando, but IOA is surre up there, and I expect Universal Creative to come up with a ton of great stuff for the future of the park, hopefully including a night time show....

It sounds like you had a great day! We will be going to IOA for a day when we go down there in May. I have had a hard time trying to decide if I really want to only do 4 days at Disney and one at IOA , or just do 5 days at Disney (we're doing a day at Sea World too). I really want to do Jurassic Park though. Was it really good? Spiderman sounds great too.

I guess I'm still trying to decide. lol

If you havent been to IOA yet, I would defenetly check it out for at least a day. I fit the whole shabang into a day and even saw a few things at City Walk after the park closed. Its good to see new things at least once, and after you see it you might even get hooked! You never know 'till ya see it for yourself.

Anyone who doesn't call Islands Of Adventure a theme park, or if they call it low budget, hasn't been there. Theming is EVERYWHERE. I love the place, I can't say that enough.

Its nice to read a "Disneyholics" opinions and views about IOA. We will be doing it for the first time this April and quite looking forward to it.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the sneak peak at what to do. We are going for the first time in June. We're spending 6 days on-site and are really looking forward to it. We were at WDW for Thanksgiving (our 4th time) and wanted to experience something different to give it a chance.

Seuss Landing is one of the best themed lands ANYWHERE!

(Every "island" in IoA is themed beautifully...if people don't call it a theme park...what do they call it??? It's not a 6 flags park...it's not CedarPoint...it's not a carnival...it's a theme park)

Oh, Jurrassic was really fun, espe ially after riding the one in Universal Hollywood. It is much longer and thus goes into a lot more detail (I think so, anyway, I just remember the Hollywood one being somewhat short. One thing I noticed though, it wa missing the falling truck that splashes into the water...I wonder why they took that out? Mabey for people who dont remember the movie, it was too confusing.)

Besides the money saved, it was taken out because the ride in Hollywood is supposed to be a ride-through of everything from the movie, kind of a sampler if you will. You are in essence "Riding the Movie" in California. In Florida, the theme is a boat ride that tours through the park, focusing on one specific item from the film (everything else is fleshed out in other parts of JP). For monetary reasons the ride was molded from the ride that was built in California.

There were a lot of artistic reasons why the car was taken out, but I really wish that an equivalent effect replaced it.

I think the falling raptor box is what replaced it, or was that in the Hollywood version also? Its a nice effect when it works (which last time I went it was working, and I got my whole own boat which was great!)

heh, I was kinda thiking that. The "Movie" version fits in the Studio park in Hollywood, but a more original theme fits in better at the area in IOA that tries to emphasize the idea that you are actually visiting Jurrasic Park.

So the ride isn't any longer than the one at Hollywood? Mabey the more elaborate atmosphere just makes it seem that way. I dont remember that gigantic building that holds the end part of it at Hollywood, though. (I have a bad memory......heck I was there just last November! )

Both rides are pretty much the same in length. The only time i rode the one in Hollywood, the Explorer on the wall wasnt working. I would guess they left it out because it may not have worked correctly all the time, and maybe the crate that falls was easier to maintain.

To anyone reading this, I am the biggest Disney fan, but from now on when I'm in Orlando I'll always spend a day or 2 at Universal and IOA. Theming is everywhere at IOA, and it goes to show how nice of a park can be built if enough money is put into it. It's definitely worth the trip to all of you who have not been there yet.

I always take a day or two to USF...you're not alone here :)
