Hi all!!!

Just wondering, has the mummy coaster been officially confirmed, or is it all just pure speculation? I just wondered, as I have never seen an official press release or anything, but everyone seems to know all about it!

Thanks!

:)

Sometime later this month I believe the attraction will be publicly announced. I can't wait for the art work and for the rumors to start flying about. Everyone has been really tight liped about The Mummy thus far.

The subject of this thread got me all excited. I thought it was confirmed! :hammer: Anyway, it is supposed to be announced sometime this month. I can't wait.

USF is getting seriously disappointing - They've shut down too much good stuff and not replaced it. The Mummy had better be something impresive - along the lines of a "Spiderman" type of ride or a coaster.

I don't see how you can say that. The only soundstage that is still closed is the old Herculies and Xena building, and it is debatable about whether or not that was "good stuff."

This ride will hands down be the best attraction in the park, and will probably be the defining attraction of this industry when it opens much like Spiderman was back in 1999 and Indiana Jones was in 1995.

Well Hanna Barbara closed down, and it was replaced by Jimmy Neutron. Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies closed down and was replaced by Shrek. And King Kong was closed down and will be replaced by The Mummy. They didn't replace?? :veryconfu

Now their beating a dead horse. It's like the annoucement of Superman at Six Flags. We KNEW it was going to happen. But they dragged it out as long as possable. I've lost intrest.

And if this ride turns out into another Jaws type ride (read: BREAKDOWN heaven) or it is just a coaster, I'll laugh my @$$ off.

I don't see how you can say that.

Much in the same way you make comments about Disney, its just an opinion.

Now heres mine, BOTH Disney and Universal are replacing attractions, theres very rarely anything extra added. And both parks are guilty of taking things away and not replacing them.

Now i know that they study ride popularity etc but didnt someone, may have been you, state that the rumour about Kong was more o do with lack of merchandise sales rather that lack of attraction riders.

MIB is the only thing that I can recall being added to the studios since my first visit in 94. Whatever happened to the stunt show on the lake??

Is it me or does anyone else think that IoA and UStudios would greatly benefit from a daytime parade (and by parade I don't mean 4 or 5 superheroes on quads coming out for a meet and greet) and a GREAT nighttime show?

IoA for one has the lagoon...much like WS...
IoA has great themes surrounding it...

Actually witness the fire and ice dragon battle...Popeye and Bluto going at it, Xmen vs. Magneto...the possibilities of an unbelievable nighttime show would keep the people in the parks later, therefore spending MORE on merchandise and food (plus...it word of mouth gets around...more people INTO the parks)

Right now...people are leaving those parks and heading straight for the World to see some spectacular shows.

There is one major design flaw of the IoA lagoon, it's size, viewing, and access. There are no ways, unlike the Epcot lagoon, to access it from backstage for floats. It's size prevents things from storing on it, and lots of attractions block the view of the lagoon from main pedestiran walk-ways.

Here's a little bit of a rumor I found over at Screamscape.com

2004 - Revenge of The Mummy - Rumor - (5/5/03) With an impending announcement about the new ride coming within the next couple of weeks, we’ve heard another new rumor about the kind of technology we may seen inside the ride. One of our spies claims that the ride may use something called a “Suspended Particle Screen”, which allows them to project a moving image onto a virtual screen made up of small particles of dust/fog or whatever else suspended in the air. If the rumors are true, they will use this particular trick to make the Mummy’s face appear on in the sand or on a dust cloud, as seen in the Mummy films. Disneyland’s Indiana Jones ride tried this back in 1995 in their “Rat Room” with less than spectacular results, but advancements in technology (DLP) could make it convincing this time around.

Ok, I'm just wondering when are they supposed to announce that this ride is going to be built? Its May 11th already and I had heard they were announcing it in early May. I imagine its still a go (there's plenty of May left to make an announcement  ), but with the pending sale of Universal from Vivendi, I don't know if it was possible they may have put a "red-light" on this attraction being built (let's hope not :) )

Construction started in January and the track for the ride system has already started to show up on site. It's a go.

That's good to hear! Any news on when the announcement for it will be made?
