It will be my little cousins 1st time to Disney World in November. He is 8 and he loves rides. I told him all about them and even showed him on ride videos and he is so excited to go. He was just worried about Mission Space. He said he is scared to go on only because people getting sick on the ride. He is afraid of :hurl: like I am and he is afraid to see someone get sick on it or near it.. Has anyone actually witnessed someone :hurl: because I was on it a couple times and never seen anyone get sick and I am trying to make him get over his fear and ride the ride. Its a dumb question, but I want him to experiance every disney ride!! Thanks guys, your the best!

Just take him on the green (non-spinning) version. There are two versions of it now, green and orange (sickening, I mean spinning).

I have to say I never have seen anyone ACTUALLY get sick on the ride. I was fine on the ride, but I'm also much older. The centrifical force on the ride was rather intense and I definitely FELT it. I would go on the non-spinning version first, than upgrade to the spinning.( I did that as well). Always remember to stare at the screens and not close your eyes, even if you feel sick.

Yea, I told him about the 2 different sides, he is more into the intense side...thats why he was worried about people getting sick. I was fine on the ride. It doesnt bother me at all. I love it!

I have done both sides, the green and the orange. Truly it is still a great ride on the green side and you will be less likely to see someone be sick.

Really, he is 8. Hopefully he will have a chance to ride a lot of great rides in his lifetime. My opinion is don't push him. There's so much fun to see and do; the Orange side is no great loss.

I should mention if he is squemish about seeing someone be sick you might want to avoid Star Tours. I had a CM on Body Wars  (basically same ride different movie) tell me that they have to "clean up" often several times a day.

Have fun!

I have seen a few people get sick. They look pale and miserable lying on the benches right outside the rides. And of course, they do have the barf bags just in case.

I did see a little boy yacking in a garbage can just outside of the ride once. His head was all in the can. Poor little guy. We felt bad for him. I've never seen anything grose on the floor or anything but I have smelled it before and seen damp spots. You just know what it's from. Keep moving when you get off the ride. If you see something yucky it will be out of sight very quickly plus you will still be in that excited-mode after the ride. You'll soon be out of sight. I imagine the CM's are pretty adept to cleaning up quickly.

Definitely do the "light version" first (green team). Upgrade to the Orange Team from there. Note that there are motion sickness bags in the ride. Stay looking forward. Don't close your eyes or look away from the screen in front of you. Breath in thru your nose and out thru your mouth.

I say this after my husband thinks the best entertainment on the Orange Team ride is watching me. I do this bug-eye concentrated look like death is before me and use my lamaze breathing techniques to keep everything okay. Orange Team is intense. I'm somewhat prone to motion sickness but I generally do it once every trip after taking dramamine because my sons just loooove it. I make them ride Small World and sing with me. I can suck it up for one trip thru the Orange Team Mission Space. LOL!

Have fun!

Its weird hearing that people get sick on Star Tours. I guess the motion:shrug: . Does that mean certain people cant even do Soarin without getting sick. Its such a great ride to miss because of motion sickness. I dont know what Id do if I had motion sickness. That would really stink!

In all my trips to Disney I NEVER saw anyone on any rides or anywhere for that matter. Thank goodness because I hate seeing people . I have been on all of the intense rides including: Mission Space (both sides), Star Tours, Body Wars (a long time ago) etc.

Heading for the great escape.
I now take the green flight on the ride of death. Ever since I rode this just after opening I have felt rough when I get off. Give me a coaster any day.

After having worked it for a few months I can say it's very rare you will actually see someone get sick on the ride (usually it'll be someone in your capsole you'll see/hear) it was rare outside the ride vehicles while you were still in the bay. It does happen rearely on the exit hallway but more often than not those people know it's coming and are waiting by the trash can. Thre are two cutodial people on call at all times. If we see it/know about it we re-route guests as best as possible and it's cleaned as quickly as possible.

Keep in mind that in the busy season there was roughly 3 or so a day (on average). In the off seasons we were "lucky" to have one person get sick that day. Your chances of actually seeing it are pretty slim.

Yeah. People have different types of motion sickness.

My dad can do things like Roller Coasters, but not simulators like Star Tours or Mission: Space.

Surprisingly, he can do Soarin' without a problem, which he loves.

It's really not all that bad. You don't manually open the capsoles (they open automatically at the end of the ride), and usually you will see a sick guest or will have guests complaining about their own specific capsole before you actually see it yourself. Again it's fairly rare given the ammount of people that go through it every day (it's about a 5 min ride and you can have up to 80 people on either version at any given time).

Oh, I see...cool 2 know, I wonder how Tower of Terror cast members make out with that...I never heard any stories about that ride. Have you? You would think more people would get sick on that.

Not sure but I know as yesterday morning at 9 AM (it was morning EMH) I did witness a teenage get sick in the RnRC quque... he could have been sick allready or something could have made him sick... Tower is a possibility.

Reason you don't hear about people getting sick as much is usually it's cleaned up fairly quickly and forgotten about. People even get sick across the park from Mission Space (I've heard Le Cellier was a victom at one point even). Just because you never hear of it happening doesn't mean it never does, it may not be as traceable as instant mess.

Yea, thats true...Thats good that they keep up on these things and really keep the parks clean...I know if I came across a pile of :hurl: I would probably run the other way. I have such a phobia with that. I would probably go back to my room for all that. It would ruin my day. It sounds strange but its true.

The Green side is great. I was impressed. Try it first and then see if you think you can handle Orange. "Space" is the most underated ride at WDW:cool:
