Mickey's PhilharMagic coming to DCA this April

That's not what he was responding to.

But rather that the film's blurry condition is related to their lack of digital upgrades.
?

His response was in TP2000's observation that the Digital projection used in Disneyland's theaters looks better than the film used, Rollercoaster was saying that shouldn't be the case since 70mm film is the superior format. I was attempting to explain a reason why the digital projection might look better than 70mm in the parks, even though 70mm is the superior format.

>The 12-minute “Mickey’s Philharmagic” film debuts later this month in the Hollywood Land section of the Anaheim theme park.<<

>Disney announced on March 28 that “Mickey’s Philharmagic” would be debuting at Disney California Adventure in April. The short turnaround likely means California Adventure will be getting the Disneyland Paris version of the 3D film employing a smaller screen. The former MuppetVision theater does have some side screens that could be used to achieve the wraparound effect.<<

We know about degradation... but his response was to this train of thought.

We know about degradation... but his response was to this train of thought.

I know... and his response ended with "We still don't have digital projector available that can meet the projection quality of 5/70 film. Scratched and worn glasses are a problem regardless of what projection. A blurry image is because someone hasn't focused the projector lens properly or your eyes are starting to fail you. "

I was attempting to offer an additional explanation. Not sure what you're disagreeing with here.

The show was quite spectacular at Magic Kingdom if you're seeing it for the first time, but the film is quite poor quality with washed out colors. They do need to remaster it in digital. Oh well. It's just a temporary show in any case. I will definitely see it in a few months. See it while you can because I don't expect it to last. Maybe 2 years at most.

Or sooner...

It’s still happening! Philharmagic will be receiving new scenes before 2021. Moana, Frozen and Tangeled. While details are limited. It’s on track to coming sometime 2019-2020.
The fact remains it shouldn't take until 2021

It shouldn’t.

It was proposed as part of the 50th. I doubt it will take much time once approved.

Side screens where? Are they putting a new ultra-wide screen in front of the existing proscenium and orchestra pit, wrapping around in front of the side boxes and removing rows of seats in the process)?

WDW's screen has an aspect ratio of 5.35:1 (150'x28' according to Wikipedia). Measuring a photo of the MuppetVision/Sunset Showcase Theater proscenium looks to be 2.75:1. According to IMDB, MuppetVision, Captain EO, and Honey, I Shrunk the Paying Theme Park Guests are all 2.20:1. However, IMDB also lists PhilharMagic as 2.20:1, which makes no sense. Did they put in a (much) wider screen in Paris, or did they edit the digital film to a narrower aspect?

I'm not against bringing PhilharMagic to DCA. It will probably get more butts in the seats than a film preview, and potentially add some capacity when they need it most. Slap it on the cover of the DCA map, and you'll probably draw in some tourists who maybe haven't seen it at WDW. Not a bad two-year placeholder for seemingly not a lot of investment.

P.S. I'll go see it. I saw it twice at WDW many years apart and took my tween nephews who liked it despite their inclination to be cynical.

The attraction really should be called ilharMa. If it's not the full show with it's massive expanding screen then why bother.
Because it's a cheap solution to getting another attraction available at DCA. Nearly all guests viewing it at DCA will have never seen the WDW version and won't be complaining about missing elements on fan forums.

That’s because he wasn’t that funny... until the new series of shorts on YouTube. 😄
I don't care for the new designs. For me, the best use of Mickey was his Kermit-like role on House of Mouse.

What I would LOVE to see is the people behind the new Ducktales tackle a series based on the classic Mickey Mouse comic books where Mickey's battling the Phantom Blot. :D
