MGM could become the best Disney park......

Bite your tounge. :) The Muppets have "ultimate dark ride" written all over them.

The Muppets began life as 3-Dimensional characters - it's not like the Fantasyland dark rides where they had to invent (or ignore) texture and proportion to translate things from moving animation footage to reality - the Muppets already exist in "reality".

We don't want no steenkin' movie-simulator, we don't want no steenkin' psudo-roller coaster themed to the Muppets, or anything of the sort...We just need a really long, well-done dark ride to give the Muppets a permanent, physical home in the World (and the world).

I don't think having two stunt shows is redundant, one is cars, the other is people.

From talking to CM's, Indy will be going eventually, and though no one has flat out said they wouldn't co-exist at all it certainly is not out of the question that once the motor show is out of previews for Indy to be quietly closed.

I mean, think about it - the Indy show is gonna be old enough to drive next year. :)

Does anyone buy after all this time that the Volunteer from the audience is really a plant? Heh. The show is just getting a little long in the tooth. In 1989 a presentation based on the effects of an 80's film was larger than life and amazing - in 2004 it's really more nostalgic than anything else.

That said, I'm not much for cars - while Indy is still on my "visit" list most times I come to MGM, I have a feeling that the motor show won't be a regular visit for me. Just not my cup of tea. I have a feeling that a lot of people will enjoy it, however.

The biggest reason I don't mind the departure of Indy (besides that it's a show - show's don't hold the same place with me as a ride does) is that I'd really like the rumors of a revamped Indy Dark-ride making it's way to Florida.

I mean, man - think about it - an Indy-dark ride, a Muppets dark-ride, and a revamped Star-Tours? Add that to ToT and the RnR, and you've got a park to compete with IOA. Would certainly make me forget about Spiderman...

I agree that I would rather see the MK get a new thrill ride over MGM, but if they put Indy in MGM they will probably be able to put together a more thrilling attraction. I'm afraid if they put it in Adventureland they would tone it down or something. And then everyone would wish that it was put in MGM.

And while I have seen the Indy Stunt Show enough for one lifetime, I do know that first time guests do love this show alot more than us regular visitors do. So maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea for that show to stay a few more years. I believe they should get a new Star Tours film before considering taking away the Stunt Show.

to the side of RnRc and the Animation Courtyard, there could be room to expand to add a new little land.
just look at the Hollywood Pictures BAcklot at DCA. copy that area and there you go.
A new water ride could be of help too. im thinking The Lost Empire of Atlantis flume ride.

That was my thought exactly.

The MK needs a new E-ticket, but that's beside the point.

We know that if Indy makes it to the Studios it won't be a clone of DL's, only because they already have a clone of it at DAK (Dinosaur). It would likely be a bigger, more complex ride - perhaps a combination of the dark ride and the Paris coaster.

I'll be honest, ToT and RnR keep me at MGM longer these days (mostly RnR) and I still enjoy Muppets4D and even Indy - but whenever I bring guests that can only make a day trip to one park I usually hit IOA (for those that have already been to WDW before, of course). It's just got more crowd-pleasing rides - dark-ride fans get Spidey and Jurrasic, and thrill-seekers get Hulk and the Dragons.

MGM has always been my favorite park since it opened - in some ways, yes, more than the MK. There have just been so many projects that never materialized (the original Muppet Studios concept with the dark ride and restaurant) that went to other parks (Roger Rabbit) or are just relatively pointless these days (the animation tour), that I often wonder more about what could have been than what is. I still sort of take offense that DAK exists when they never finished the other 1/2 of MGM.

But we can all hope :).

The only reason I would rather see Indy at MGM, even if the Magic Kingdom is LONG overdue for an E-Ride, is because I have always felt the only movies presented in the Magic Kingdom should be Disney movies. Disneyland put Indy in Adventureland because they didn't have a choice in the early 1990s...it had to be somewhere in the Magic Kingdom, and it does work in Adventureland, but I think it'd work better at MGM. Then there is of course...we already know a new E-Ride is going to be constructed east of the stunt show very soon after it opens--Indy. We already know where the next big Magic Kingdom ride is going--Fantasyland (obviously), where Indy does not belong. That being said, the new stunt show is far superior to the Indy show, with awesome special effects...and, as if the show wasn't already kewl enough at Paris, they are adding quite a few boats to our show to spice it up even more. Lights, Motors, Action! will rock...very...as Eisner strangely described Expedition: EVEREST, "testosterone-driven".

Our Indy is a clone of the same track in Dinosaur and the other Indiana Jones Adventure attractions. It doesn't matter...only if you are consciously looking for the similarities can you even notice them...completely different ride experience, less similar than Body Wars and Star Tours.

Bring Back Super Star Television!

Don't know why they ever took out Super Star Television! :veryconfu

This seemed something that was pretty easy to keep up to date and people loved! Now, besides for events like Star Wars Weekends, we have a theatre sitting unused and no great attraction in that area. :(

Drew's Sounds Dangerous was an improvement on the ABC Kids Sound Effect Studio, but doesn't stand on par with the Monster Sound Show and isn't something great in that area, that I really think Super Star Television could bring back!

I believe the general view was that there were too many shows and not enough rides at MGM, so instead of building new rides, Disney decided to close shows. Strangely enough, even now that we have lost Superstar and Hunchback, they have opened Millionaire and Lights, Motors, Action! in ~9 months. But, the Animation tour will go from a series of shows into a much more interactive pavillion like one might see at Epcot, which will be nice, and we are finally getting a new ride in a few years.

Looks like MGM could drop to #4 this year with how busy DAK has been since EE opening....

hopefully, this will cause WDW to "fix the park"

Maybe add a few dark rides that would warrant going there for emh.

Here's a few ideas:

+ I'm all for the Indy Ride. I would definitly like to see one like the one in California.

+ As for the hat, I liked someone's idea about moving it to the animation coutryard. What about making it a ride entrance? Someone mentioned it's just a pin shop, so I think it might be more useful for something like that.

+ I agree getting ride of the Muppet's 3-D show. It's old and outdated, at least update it some. A Muppet's dark ride would be nice...and I enjoy the pre-show in the 3-D show right now, or at least the preshow area, so maybe you could incorporate that.

+ A Monster's Inc ride would fit in so much here than in the Magic Kingdom. Maybe one like the one in California.

+ Improve the Backlot tour, or get rid of it.

+ Improve Star Tours. I really like the whole Star Wars idea. If Rockin Roller Coaster wasn't in this park I would say make a roller coaster but...

+ Add a Monorail to it. Along with AK.

+ Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D show or ride.

+ Maybe a whole Roger Rabbit children's area. Just a small spot though for the kid's.

+ Get rid of HISTK. It takes up space and could be used for something else.

+ I agree with the whole Bald Mountain thing whoever said that. I think Epcot and MGM should each get a mountain. What in Epcot? No idea but something...

+ I like the Broadway street idea. Why do we need the Street's of America or whatever they call it now. Maybe move the Beauty and the Beast stage show here.

+ Get rid of Sound's Dangerous. Maybe a Comedy show like Whose Line Is It Anway...

Ha, lots of ideas. Don't need all of them, but it would definitly add in to MGM. (As MGM is a great park already!)

I just go back last month form a taking a bunch of newbies to WDW for 6days. MGM was group's least favorite park. It isn't very magical and really needs some new RIDES. INDY, new STAR TOURS and the INCREDIBLES would start to help. I think they should also plus Fantasmic.

I agree that alot of rides need to be updated. When I think of MGM, I don't think of something that will warrant a full days trip. I like Muppets, but it's not surprise. I think Star Tours is in deseperate need of a update. I'm a Star Wars fan & really enjoy the themeing, etc. but the ride itself is not very fun. Simulation technology is long gone. The film & actualy ride itself looks old, outdated, & is in terrible shape. Star Tours just doesn't have that cool vibe like it did when I first rode it in '93.

I enjoy very little of the backlot tour. The portion where planes "attack" in the giant water tank has been around since they opened, it is just old & not very exciting. The actual tram tour is alright.. you don't really see a whole lot, & most of the props are from early to mid 90s movies/shows. I like Catastrophe Canyon, but it's been there sooo long that I almost hate it for that reason. I think 1989 to 2006 has given everyone in the world plenty of time to see MGM Studios & have a "first" with the rides, its time to change something.

I like Indiana Jones & the stunt show, but a dark ride would really excite me alot more! I love TOT & RNRC, but those two rides & Fantasmic make Hollywood Blvd extremely crowded. The park feels very unbalanced. I never feel a great need to move to the back of the park, there isn't alot going on back there. I would compare MGM to Universal Studios..

At USF, I feel like every area of the park is as important as the next. It makes me want to roam all portions, b/c I know there are interesting rides & shows to see. At MGM, I dont' feel this. The "backlots" with the NYC & SF streets are pretty cool, but I have been there countless times (esp. at night) & it's a ghost town. I don't even feel like I'm in a theme park. MGM does not efficiently draw the bodies around as they should.

Finally, the Great Movie Ride. I enjoy this ride, but each visit I enjoy it less & less. The scenes are neat.. but it's not fresh & exciting anymore. A few scene updates or a new layout would really bring this back! I like it as a slow ride, but how cool would it be to have it "movie themed," but at the pace of "Dinosaur"..(maybe not THAT fast), so you felt like you were in the action. I think there's some great potential here.. that is not being used.

That is all.

I, too, agree. Frankly, the Studios is my least favorite park, and I find myself spending more and more time at DAK (especially with E:E) than roaming the same small streets at the Studios.

But to flip this on its head, what are your favorite things about the park? What gives it much-needed doses of Disney magic? My picks are...

1) Streetmosphere! They're hilarious, they change shows enough for regulars like I am to enjoy watching them, and they add a much-needed human element to the concrete streets and soundstages.

2) ToT, RnR, and the GMR. ToT is possibly the best psychological thrill ride on earth (since AE is gone). RnR is so non-Disney that it works well. Although it needs to be updated, the GMR is the park's only dark ride and is a fantastic tribute to classic Hollywood. Just replace the Alien scenes with something more interesting, like Star Wars. Jar Jar Binks scares me more than that plastic alien head.

3) Fantasmic. Honestly, complaining about the Pocahontas scene is a moot point, since it lasts about ten minutes. The show is among Disney's best.

4) The Osborne Spectacle of Lights. It's perhaps the only attraction to fill the Streets of America, and it's one of the best Christmas displays at WDW. More importantly, this is the only time of year that the Studios really feels like it's an integrated part of the rest of the resort; it feels magical. I love it.

I love Fantasmic too. I think Muppetvision is the best show in all of Disney, and though I agree Star Tours needs to be updated, the queu (sp?) is awesome!
It would be nice to have more kids and family rides.
