MGM could become the best Disney park......

Granted, you can say this about any of the parks if they are given the proper amount of $$$ to add new attractions.

But I think MGM has the infrastructure and the "theme" in place to really crank it up a few notches and be a truly amazing park. (as opposed to a good/solid park)

For me, that would begin with:

Get rid of the Animation tour and replace it with the interactive animation thing at DCA.

Hopefully once the Motors stunt show opens, Indy will be replaced with The Indiana Jones Adventure.

Make a REAL Star Wars attraction. Not just a film upgrade to outdated technology.

Use the space for the Backlot tour for something else.

I love hat, but it feels ackward with the Chinese theatre right behind it. Any idea if the hat is going to be moved ever?

I think all of those are good solid ideas. I'd agree with evey one of them. I HATE that stupid hat, it takes away from the beautiful architecture of the Chinese Theater. It is also the only WDW park centerpeice that serves no purpose. It's a pin shop, so what? Cinderella's Castle has a restaurant, Spaceship Earth is a ride, Tree of Life has a 3-D show. The old centerpeice of MGM, the Chinese Theater has a ride.

As for the backlot, the question is, what backlot? There is nothing left to tour except catastrophe canyon, which isn't all that spectacular after you've done it a few times, and it's just not worth even going on the backlot. I say close the backlot tour, put a whole new area in that section of the park, maybe work catastrophe canyon somehow into a new attraction, or use components of it so it doesn't go entirely to waste.
And since there would be no tour, the parking lots can have more trams :p .

It is already the best, but to get better, the Disney-MGM Studios park should

a) improve Fantasmic

b) take advantage of the successes of ABC network properties, Touchstone, Miramax and Hollywood Pictures and dress up the backlot tour with walk through replica sets of hit television shows and movies. Smaller trams, get out and walk, have stations where people can exit and enter back into the park if they don't want to commit to a 45 minute - 1 hour tour.

c) Muppets dark ride

d) 4D Toy Story theater show

and

e) re-locate character wardrobe department to old animators' offices, let park guests watch the inner workings of a theme park getting its thousands of cast members ready for a day in an actual, working, Florida Disney theme park. (j/k)

I liked Kevin's ideas #1 & #3. Nix the Indiana Jones clone. Leave the Indiana Jones Stunt Show intact, but design new thrill ride based on MGM's James Bond or other unexplored film franchise.

I like the size and layout of MGM. It is small, so you don't feel as tired walking around. No "Epcot Legs", as I like to call them. It has a lot of rides and attractions though, despite being small. And the food at MGM is really good. The fast food (Commisary, Backlot Express) are different and offer great things. Brown Derby, Prime Time, and Sci Fi are all good.

I agree with what has been said. Because it is so small, everything must be top notch. Animation Tour, Backlot Tour, Star Tours, and Indiana Jones Stunt Show should all be updated. GMR, WWTBAM, ToT, and RnRC shouldn't be touched.

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is not staying. I am sorry. Enjoy it while you can. Disney will not run two stunt shows on a daily basis, as the new stunt show is VERY expensive to run, and with 5000 seats, it is meant to eat up all of the guests that would have seen the dated Indy show and more. Assuming Indy 4 is actually produced, the Indiana Jones Adventure will come to MGM around 2008. If that movie isn't made...well...let's just hope it is.

The Animation tour is turning into a clone of the California attraction, by the way. They are gutting all of the animation offices to build that awesome entry that DCA has with the movie screens...and all of the side attractions are also to be built, in addition to the already-opened Drawn to Animation.

And what successes on ABC? ABC is less popular than NBC, CBS, and Fox...you could count the popular shows on ABC on one hand...

Disney has ABC, Family ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN and some other TV / Cable properties that can be housed in Disney Studios for some time to time. Not movies but shows, like Millionare (hey they have the place why not a season down Orlando) or some other special stuff. Remember the special from Home Improvement, that could have been taped over Orlando.

Well in my opinion MGM is already the best Disney park and it is my favorite park in the country. I think it has Disney's best thrills, the best stage shows, and overall is the most complete park. While the MK is aimed for kids and Epcot is aimed for grown ups, MGM seems to be the very best of both worlds. And if some of these changes do actually happen, it will be the classic case of the rich getting richer.

I agree with you completely. Ever since we got MuppetVision and TOT, I knew MGM had great potential.

- I like putting the DCA Animation show in the current Animation building. There's definately enough room in there now to do something huge, fun, and vibrant.
- The Sorcerer's Hat can and should be moved to a new Animation Courtyard. It's a damn shame to block the Chinese Theater, but the Hat is a good landmark that is more associated with animation than Hollywood. Since the Animation Courtyard is small, they should expand it to include the original Tram Tour queue, and put the hat over there. Maybe the main entrance (or exit) for the new Animation Show should be over there.
- I'd like to see both the Indy Stunt show and a new version of the Indy ride. Attendance for both attractions would increase since they're both related. I would suggest condensing the stunt show, because it doesn't need to be that long. Otherwise, a corridor to the Indy entrance could run right by the Adventure Outpost shop, and the ride could sit in the unused part of the parking lot.

Now if you really want to dream, let's talk about MGM bringing back Sorcery in the Sky, and finally adding Roger Rabbit's ToonTown and/or an improved version of Flik's Fun Fair.

The last thing I want to see is something I can see in real life - MOVIES that are not really Disney, especially live action ones. Yes, Star Wars and Indy are not Disney, but they are fantasy and are so related to Disney they fit in nicely.

I dislike immensely the idea of "walkng thru TV sets" it becomes too dated and too "flavor of the month" too fast.

The less big name celebrities we tie to attractions, the better. Leave that garbage for Universal to do. :D

Star Wars and Indiana Jones are not Disney and are not related to Disney, but I am glad they are at the park, and hope, as do you, that the Star Wars attraction will be improved someday. Their successes proves live action films can be worthy of inclusion at the park. If the Disneyland Indiana Jones is introduced to the Studios park, that will be great. I hear it is an awesome ride. It would just be even better if they developed a new attraction so as to avoid clones. James Bond, for example, could have the potential to outdo Spider Man at IofA.

As far as your second paragraph: Envision a back lot tour set up in a fashion similar to the train station at the Magic Kingdom, where you can board at two or three points. Get on and ride through catastrophe canyon. Stay on and ride through movie/television sets or get off and walk back through the city streets. The second segment allows you to be taken to an area of television/movie sets from the past and present. Walk through a rebuilt "Arnolds Restaurant" with the original booth where Richie, Potsie and Ralph would meet up with the Fonz from "Happy Days." See Tim's garage from "Home Improvement." Sit at the anchors desk of "SportsCenter." Explore these and others at your own pace, then get back on the train and loop around to the third station where if you stay on board, you will ride past the various soundstages and see Walt Disney's plane and the large props that have made the backstage tour what it has been.

It isn't like Disney is going to do this, but I think it would be entertaining. The flavor of the month would appeal to people who want to see new things when they return from year to year. The sets could be added/deleted based upon the success or failure of an anticipated new series.

Here's my update's for the studios:

Move hat to front of the park instead of it blocking the Chinese Theater. Instead of a pin trading location, why not a small Hollywood Movie history museam inside?

Once Motors opens, replace the Indy Stunt show with the ride like DL's except with a slightly different story. ( different curse instead of Forbidden Eye or Crystal Skull )

Please update Star Tours!

Update Muppets. I say no to Muppet Movie ride because I think it should go in DCA. DCA really needs an attraction like that.

Extend the actual movie backlot. Make movies here for once!

Add on to the Backlot tour

Make the Animation Tour like DCA's.

I like the idea of adding in Flik's Fun Fair. They should retheme the HISTK Playground and make it Flik and Bug's Life themed. I'm not sure if they could fit in too many of the rides from CA, but they could at least revamp what is there. And that restaurant near there that is closed (the red, warehouse-like one) should share the same bug theme. Perhaps a stand with fun treats, like Mud'n'Bugs (pudding and gummy worms) and other fun things.

And yes! Sorcery in the Sky! I love Fantasmic, but I hate waiting in that theater for an hour to reserve my seat. I much rather just gather around the "hat" and watch fireworks from the street at my leisure.

I would add this though:

A whole muppet section, a Muppet themed resturant, a few new muppet rides, etc. Also I would like to see a monsters inc. Dark ride/Coaster. the coaster could be the door room and near it a dark ride that takes you through a tour of monsters inc. and when you go through the door room you see the coaster. I would like to see some more move theme areas like a special effects show etc. also star tours needs something done to it and move the hat to the front of the park. I love the hat but it's in a stupid spot. move it to right before you enter the park, with those moving lights behind it to look like a hollywood premier or something.

Fantasmic is good, but people have offered some good ideas for improvement on some other threads. I think they have included less animation action, more live action, and replacing the Pocohontas scene with the Peter Pan scene from Disneyland.

I don't have any problem with Fantasmic. I missed getting to see it on my last trip, but enjoyed it in '99. I just included it on the list as a "while we are at it, let's have a go at this" kind of thing.

Actually, why not retheme it to Munchkin land from the Wizard of Oz? That would be cool...
