What is that huge area in the middle (behind the footprint) being used for? It looks like standby veers off to the switchbacks on the left, and FP uses the switchbacks on the right, leaving a large courtyard in the middle?

Something more than just cement and switchbacks? I hoped for more, but with Imagineering's track record this year, I expected about this.

At the very least, I'd hoped it'd be covered.

Well if the rumors of it going back down in Jan for further queue refurb is true, this is just phase 1.

DISNEYLAND Blog 1/23/19: Come down to the park and zip though the Matterhorn to see the Abonimable Snowman’s left arm. As you know he was hit by bobsled late last year but like lizards, abominable snowmen can regenerate.

Just imagine being in that queue in the middle of July. The trees look great, but they seem purely asthetic and won't provide any protection from the sun.

No different then the wrap around queue the last 55 years

Consider if you will how much better WDW’s Haunted Mansion looked before the queue was covered in ugly green awnings that block the view of the house. I’d say we’re lucky there’s no invasive shade structure.

Ya I’m ok with no structure. This looks like the IASW Q re-do (which I really like) with more sparse trees.
