Rumor on this has been floating from sometime, the West End stage was going down.
It was next to impossible to get anything solid on this, slowly word started to get out though. Over the weekend, while Charley was hitting us hard the band schedule for next month was finally publicly released.

West End Stage- NOTHING!
Rock-N-Roll Beach Club- 7 days a week with bands.

Why? The idea is that by charging less for admission and cutting back the free street entertainment people will now PAY to enter the clubs to listen to live music.

I asked this in another PI thread, didn't see an answer, but can anybody tell me what attendance has been at PI this summer? If there aren't a bunch of people outside milling around, it can't be much fun for the band to be playing to the custodial worker and the security guard.

I hate to see this. PI used to be a whole lotta fun, and before that Church Street, but Church Street never had outdoor bands on a regular basis. Universal's CityWalk didn't have much going on outside the one time I was there.

So the question to our night lifers, what does the outdoors scene look like during the Summer of 2004 at PI, CSS, and CW?

It will remain gateless and the price will go down to 16.95 and all Premium Annual pass members will get 3 months extra of PI admission

Ugh! I HATE this gateless policy! We've been to PI every Thursday night since mid-May and it just suxx.

I've emailed Disney and PI Management telling them that I hoped they wouldn't extend it. So now I guess I have to write again and tell them how disappointed I am.

Outdoor "Vending"

So, with the free and open gates, have they stopped serving drinks outside? Part of me would miss that, while part of me would be happy to never be assaulted by the people selling cherry shots in test tubes -- tacky.

I like the gateless entry thingie, that way you don't have to go all the way around. I hated that. The last time I went in the clubs was like 5 years ago. They don't really interest me.

I strongly dislike it now too, so I just go into Manniquins and stay in there.

Yeah. We pretty much just stick to the Adventurer's Club (what's up with people bringing their kids there? It's a BAR!) and occasionally the Comedy Warehouse or 8-Trax.

The foot traffic is SO much worse because of all the people walking between the West End and Marketplace. Ugh! I just hate it.

Any of the bands that played at PI were cheesier than cheese and/or a billion years old, so "I'm not too worried about it" (in my best Kruger impersonation) :D

Why do they have to keep messing with everything??? The whole point was PI being an Adult Entertainment District, now theres no West End stage, no "front" gate, no wandering/staggering in and out of the clubs at will because of the stupid parents that take their kids to bars. IS NOTHING SACRED????:brick:

OK I'm done now, that felt good to get it off my chest!

As one who doesn't drink while on Disney Vacations I like the new policy.
I missed the old days when you could go to PI and see the shops during the day. When they closed PI to he public during the day I was upset.

I do think they need to have a no childrens policy in the bars though.

While some parents are responsible...some are not...and I wouldn't want to have to watch what I say or do in a bar because of children around me.

Some current info on attendence. Attendance has been WAY UP! Thanks to the un-gating of the island and the almost "Forcing" of people to walk thru the island to get from the Westside to the Marketplace.

As far as vending goes, you would think they'd have plenty of bars open on the street. That's NOT the case! Many nights the BET Bar, Comedy Bar and others are CLOSED when the street is full of people walking around. Part of me believes this is being intentionally done as to show that even with the gates open the amount of money spent on the street by guests has not increased. Thus, giving the need to try to get those folks inside the clubs where they might spend more. Also justifying cutting back on the "Free" entertianment that's offered.

The children issue has gotten beyond ridicules now. Clubs that should be 18 and up are very lackluster in enforcing the policy. Mommy wants to bring little jenny in, just for a moment. So, what do they do? Instead of saying "were sorry, but it's too loud in there for a little ones ears." it's okay, BRING EM IN! Let littlie jenny’s ears get damaged to all heck, hey let mommy and daddy have a drink or two as well.

I'll make this last part very clear. Pleasure Island is NO LONGER TO BE CONSIDERED A NIGHTCLUB. It's a PART OF DISNEY. As such it's now run by "Park People." People who have NO FREAKING CLUE of how a nightclub needs to be run. Hence, it's not going to be much longer before you see Goofy in his best "Saturday Night Fever" getup at 8Tracks. Or how about Donald Duck, shaking his Tailfeather at BET. I'm warning you guys, this is going to happen in the not to distant future.
