Im curious too as to why they waited so long. Ive been there for Thanksgiving 3 years in a row and honestly I think it was up the past two years. I know they wait for the parade, but was the parade later this year or something?

The parade was this past weeked, and the bad weather on the Monday bumped the install to Tuesday.

To make a long story short, when they started having MVMC parties in early November (either 2006 or 2007?) they put up the tree early, near the Tomorrowland brige / rose garden area at that time. Then after parade taping (which for the past several years has been the first weekend in December) they would move it to Town Square.

Last year, they decided it wasn't worth the time/cost/effort to put the tree up once and then move it again. They did the same thing again this year. The result is that the tree doesn't go up Dec. 8th or so. How *magical* for all the folks shelling out $60+ for those November and early December parties!!

Also, not to be a Debbie Downer - I think the MK tree looks good, but has everyone seen photos of the DL tree? It has about triple the amount of ornaments and looks much better.

They need to find a way to film the parade with the Christmas tree already in place in town square.
Regis and Kelly could be seated somewhere else.

I was watching an old Christmas parade tape from the 80's recently, hosted by Joan Lunden & Alan Thicke. They sat in the tomorrowland terrace patio (where they hold the dessert party now) with the castle as a backdrop.

Granted, its nowhere near the "parade" on Main Street, but since all of those are taped bits now anyway, it really doesn't even matter.

There's no reason they couldn't put a small stage in Town Square or the Hub either.

That tree looks great!! Anymore ornaments and decorations it would be too busy and tacky looking.

BTW, do they use a real tree or is it a fake assembled one?

I haven't been to the MK for Christmas since 1992.

Disneyland has always had a different design sensibility from Magic Kingdom in regards to its Christmas Tree, parkwide Christmas decorations, lighting, etc.

I keep waiting for Magic Kingdom and the other WDW parks to get Disneyland-style Christmas trees, or at least ditch the, um, economical look they go for out in WDW, but it hasn't happened yet. :zipit:

This nifty light show they do a few times per night at Disneyland while it snows on Main Street USA is the latest addition to the DL Christmas Tree. This little show started last year, with Disneyland's switch to LED lights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki5m4Jv58gw

WDW has 737 decorated trees this years. I don't know how many DL has, but it's nowhere near that. It's far easier for DL to concentrate on a few trees and do a very nice job of it. I think WDW do a good job for the size of the task.

737!? That's hysterically huge.

However, we are much bigger than DL...and there's alsways a cry for quality, not quantity.

Regardless, I'm pleased with our Tree. It looks great. I just hope that they fixed the EPCOT one. It's been shorting out, as I hear.

As well at the 737 trees, there are 15 miles of garland, and 8.5 million lights. It toook 150 tractor trailer loads to deliver it all.

I would think a physically bigger Resort would mean a larger staff to keep high standards, wouldn't you?

I don't know the exact number, and couldn't find it, but the Disneyland Resort has at least 100 or more Christmas Trees up, when you count all the shops and dining rooms and hotel lobbies and such. (Which is how the WDW gets to 737)

But I'm just talking about the main, icon Christmas Trees they do in the parks and the hotel lobbies. For the parks, that would be four icon trees for WDW and two for DLR.

You would think that the Magic Kingdom tree, being front and center, would get the full-tilt, whole-hog, pull-out-all-the-stops treatment. Especially considering that they do those 60 Dollar extra ticket Christmas parties at Magic Kingdom, and Disneyland just does all this stuff for everyone regardless of ticket or operating day.

Magic Kingdom eventually got copies of Disneyland's HalloweenTime decorations. How much longer before the Magic Kingdom gets a copy of Disneyland's Christmas decor?

I think in WDW the actual trees are a smaller part of the decorations, whereas at DL they are more of a focus. The 5 million lights of the Osbornes, the Castle Dream lighting (which is so much more impressive than the DL version due ot the sheer size), and Epcot's Peace on Earth fireworks are the main spectacles.

The picture of MK Main Street at 7 p.m.: I know that was a MVMCP night, but I don't think I have ever seen the tops of the buildings lit up quite like that, with the pinks and yellows and purples, etc., for Christmas. I don't even remembers seeing it that lit at the party I went to a couple of years ago (but memories can fade).

Anyhow, is that special lighting for the party, or the way it looks every night now, or for Christmas season in general?
