Magic Band and parking

A friend mentioned to me today that now that he has stayed on property and received a Magic Band that he does not need to stay on property any longer to get free parking. He said that all the gate CM's do is check the MB and wave you in. I thought about it and he's right. That's all they did when we just went. How are they going to know that someone isn't using an old MB to get free parking?

I don't know that that's true. I was just there last week, and they still give you the paper for your dashboard when you check in (we stayed at Wilderness Lodge)...so I imagine if you flashed your band but didn't have the paper on your dash, they wouldn't wave you through. Also, as the above states, I'm guessing they'll be scanning the bands pretty darn soon. So your friend won't really be saving any money then.

We drove to a lot of the resorts this week and the attendants at the gate always asked to see either our MB's, our park tickets or a driver's license, so I assumed the gates are equipped with sensors now too.

Can't imagine it would be too hard (wait, this is WDW so maybe it is) but the checkout clerk at the local home improvement store has a handheld barcode scanner to communicate my purchases to the cash register. Seems like easy technology to have a handheld MB reader at each parking booth. Hope this is resolved before too long.

I haven't put that paper in my window in years. All they did was look at my band and waved me in. But, as mentioned, they will start scanning bands soon.

We also had the paper in our window. That was all we showed them. We never had to show our bands at the parks. However, at AOA, they wanted to scan a band every time we entered even with the paper on the dash.
