Long Haul Flights..

Now the reason I have put this thread on is I'am curious how people decide what the important factors are when planning a long haul flight to Disney..I suppose that your height is a major factor..But where would you put the seat pitch on your priority list..??...For me at 6" and having long legs,I really need a 33" pitch for a 9 hour flight..It makes a huge difference..Forget the free drink & a 31" pitch...Give me a 33" and I'll buy a few cognacs from the stewardess and be a happy mouse when I arrive at Orlando..What's your number one priority when planning your flight..Sorry @MR FERRET ...I wouldn't pay the £199 per person for the premium seats..Thats the price from Glasgow..

We changed to the extra leg room seats on VA and i found although you did have that bit more room the seat seemed thinner with the tv screens built in the arms instead, so now just sit in the cattle class where we can lift the arms and spread out abit when smallish child falls asleep, so for me the £50pp extra isnt worth it

We are £199 per person ( from Glasgow ) But I noticed when we flew with First Choice ( now thomsonfly ) we walked thro the prem cabin, the TV was still on the headrest in front of you,and the seat pitch was 36"..But my friend has just come back from WDW and flew the new Dreamliner..He says it was fantastic, and that was in economy class..

At this moment..Thomson are the only UK airline that have got them, but I believe that I read somewhere that Virgin are placing an order with Boeing..The flight time from Glasgow to Orlando on the Dreamliner was 7 hours 55 mins..:jawdrop:...And coming back was 8 hours 25 mins...My friend used to work at a military airport, and is daft on plane technology....

Price is the main criteria for us. I'm a large chap so find all plane seats uncomfortable.
We have always found that using the scheduled flights works out cheaper for us. Travelling at peak school holiday time means the holiday companies always charge an arm and leg.
We have flown with Virgin and BA. With Virgin we drive to Manchester, BA we have to get to Gatwick. We will be unlikely to use BA again, due to the lack of convenient connecting flights. Last time we travelled with them they stopped the connecting service permanently just before we travelled. for the return trip, we were left with a choice of spending the day in Gatwick to then get an evening flight at 6pm ( after arriving at 8am) or driving there and back and paying for the car park for 3 weeks.
This time, with Virgin, we have used our points to get a free upgrade to premium for all 5 of us. It will be the first time flying in anything other than cattle class, so I can't wait.

It is not the legroom that makes us book PE in virgin. You get priority boarding etc and extra 23kg suitcase worth of baggage allowance pp.The dedicated check in at DTD.Free use of the V-room at Gatwick and VA sort out the flights to and from Guernsey so we only check in in Florida and then don't see our bags until we get home (The luggage allowance has to be honoured by our local carrier :D)

We packed out both cases each this year (old navy etc took a big hit).Plus who wouldn't want to give their money to a company run by a man who can do the 100m in under 10 seconds ;)

Always used Virgin to get to florida never considered anyone else ever since we went to spain with thomas cook and got stranded at reus airport for 24 hours because something fell off our plane before we boarded. The only problem flight that we have had with virgin was on our second trip and that was that the entertainment system wasn't working, delayed for about half an hour while they got it working.

I used to make monthly trips across the pond as well as regular trips to the Middle East, & the odd trip to South America for work, luckily for me they were usually in business or first class.
Any long haul holiday flights I took for holidays generally ended up with me being upgraded by BA thanks to my frequent flyer status so for 10 years or so I existed in a rather nice bubble where long haul economy flights happened very rarely.
When I changed jobs the long haul travel stopped & my BA status dropped so we tried PE with Virgin & WT+ with BA which were both okay.
Over the last few years we have discovered the joys of collecting air miles or Avios as they are now known via a combination of domestic flights, Tesco Club Card vouchers & our American Express cards.
You can easily rack up a fair amount without really trying.
A WT+ flight & 25,000 avios gets you upgraded to Club World on return flights to most US destinations providing that there is capacity on that particular flight.
I should add that Orlando is difficult to get but not impossible, we ended flying to & from Miami last year, but if you time it right Orlando WT+ to CW upgrades can be found.
You do have to be organised as reward seats get snapped up quickly.
We’ve also used Aer Lingus, whose business class product is top notch with the added bonus of clearing US immigration & customs before you leave Ireland, some of their business class prices are comparable to BA’s WT+ & Virgins PE & that includes the connecting flights from London, Glasgow & Edinburgh, you also earn Avios with them.
The flight is part of the holiday for us, we don’t have kids & so the extra cost is justified in our opinion.
