Hey, now I'm not thinking that their putting this in the lagoon but if my memory serves me right wasn't their a rumor a couple years back that a Little Mermaid ride would be put in the 20 k lagoon. I just remeber something about the ride vehicles being scallop shells or something. Am i crazy? anyone else ever hear this rumor?

I don't know anything about this, but maybe this was created in the form of Ariel's Grotto? :veryconfu

I seem to recall hearing this a couple of years back, as well. I thought it would be a good idea and a natural.
I also thought it would be a natural to do a ride based on Atlantis movie. Not that it was a great movie, but it was a natural fit.
Of course, I seem to remember that the original ride went by Atlantis, so I guess maybe it wouldn't have been that different. but I do wish we could get a dark ride of some sort here. And although 20K was never the best in terms of special effects here (don't look up, you'll see the surface and the wires!), I liked the whole nautical (all ahead , etc. dialog )
Ariel's Grotto, of course, was a much cheaper way to get her into the park.

Welcome to the boards DT`04!

You may be getting confused (but so may I) with the planned but never built Little Mermaid dark ride for Disneyland Paris - these ride vehicles were scallop shaped, and would have ridden through a (dry) undersea environment. The water was to have been simply between 2 panes of glass in the vehicles windows (think thick douible glazing), where bubbles could be created. This technology - dry for wet - was finally used in Tokyo DisneySeas 20k ride.

I vaguely remember something about them putting a ride there. Now it's too late and it will soon be a giant piece of grass and flowers. I am sad, and now Ariel's Grotto is not going to seem right anymore -- a grotto won't make sense since it will border on nothing but land. Unless they relocate it to other waters, which I seriously doubt is happening.

I thought there was already a Little Mermaid Submarine ride before but it closed. Maybe my memories and the future are all confused. (That happens sometimes.) :lookaroun

I would have loved a Little Mermaid ride. After having an MGM attraction based on the Little Mermaid, though, I'm sure they wouldn't consider a second attraction based on the same theme.

Awesome! I have never been on 20k ride though, but how would an ariel ride work? Would it literally be "Under The Sea"?
Hey, I just thought of a great idea for theme music! That thing you just said! ;)

Yeah, me too! I came up with a tune. i might change it a little, it's really wierd and probably no one will like it, but here it goes.

The seaweed is always greener
In somebody else's lake
You dream about going up there
But that is a big mistake
Just look at the world around you
Right here on the ocean floor
Such wonderful things surround you
What more is you lookin' for?

Under the sea
Under the sea
Darling it's better
Down where it's wetter
Take it from me
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin'
Full time to floatin'
Under the sea

Down here all the fish is happy
As off through the waves they roll
The fish on the land ain't happy
They sad 'cause they in their bowl
But fish in the bowl is lucky
They in for a worser fate
One day when the boss get hungry
Guess who's gon' be on the plate

Under the sea
Under the sea
Nobody beat us
Fry us and eat us
In fricassee
We what the land folks loves to cook
Under the sea we off the hook
We got no troubles
Life is the bubbles
Under the sea
Under the sea
Since life is sweet here
We got the beat here
Naturally
Even the sturgeon an' the ray
They get the urge 'n' start to play
We got the spirit
You got to hear it
Under the sea

The newt play the flute
The carp play the harp
The plaice play the bass
And they soundin' sharp
The bass play the brass
The chub play the tub
The fluke is the duke of soul
(Yeah)
The ray he can play
The lings on the strings
The trout rockin' out
The blackfish she sings
The smelt and the sprat
They know where it's at
An' oh that blowfish blow

Under the sea
Under the sea
When the sardine
Begin the beguine
It's music to me
What do they got? A lot of sand
We got a hot crustacean band
Each little clam here
know how to jam here
Under the sea
Each little slug here
Cuttin' a rug here
Under the sea
Each little snail here
Know how to wail here
That's why it's hotter
Under the water
Ya we in luck here
Down in the muck here
Under the sea!

Sorry if I wierded some of you out  . It was just one of those moments where you feel like you've got something and you just have to share it. :lookaroun
