The kids did have some fun with those. I love that you serenaded everyone :hilarious:
The best part was that no one likes Justin Bieber. It came on the radio, and my DD who was 10, HATED the Biebs so I was singing it really loud and dramatically, then decided to do it on the radio so everyone could enjoy. ;) (I know, it sounds kind of mean, but you have to understand our family dynamic to get it...everyone thought it was funny, and they retaliated in kind)

I don’t want to copy what others have said, but I love your state snack bags idea. might do a modified version of your bag for our drive across France to the beach this summer - putting information about each Region and Department, specialities, etc that we (I) learn about the area as well. It’ll help break things up because at one point there is a whole lot of the same to look at 😉
Thanks for reading! Glad you like the snack bag idea. I have lots of fun planning and putting it together. I love to watch their reactions as they open each bag. The kids had never had Goo Goo Clusters before and they were the hit of the trip! Have fun planning! Hope your family enjoys the bags!

I love it! Sounds like something my family might do as well!
Now that's how you do a road trip! Great start!
Thanks! It was rough at times but we made the best of it and created lots of memories! Many of which wouldn’t have happened if the a/c hadn’t gone out!
I was waiting for this!!! Can't wait to read more (and hopeful luck turned around :joyfull: )
Glad to have you along! Our luck does turn around eventually!

Just hopped in to follow along! Driving through the south in July with no AC sounds terrible...you guys are troopers! One of my old roomies had a junky car with no AC, and I have no idea how she managed (we're in Tennessee).

Welcome aboard! I don't think I've ever been so sweaty in all my life! Luckily we knew that Disney was at the end of the journey so we stayed strong!

Day 2 continued
Side note- every time we drive to Disney we run into some sort of directional challenge as we near Disney property. Today was no exception. I'm not entirely sure how it happened, probably the GPS, but we got off on the wrong exit. We could see the Contemporary in the distance, but the GPS was taking us around in circles and through a neighborhood. Somehow we ended up at Disney University :jawdrop:! Allie was excited to see it in person because she hopes to one day be in the Disney College Program. We saw a Disney Security car and asked the CM for directions to the Contemporary. He was very nice and in just a few moments we were driving past this.....

We missed going under the Disney sign , but got to see Space Mountain from a whole new perspective :joyfull:! Moments later we pulled into the parking lot of the Contemporary.

I had received my room ready text about an hour before we arrived, so I knew that we were in room 6108 in the Garden Wing. Tina hadn't received any info about her room, so she called and they re-sent the text with her room number. We got all of the luggage unloaded and Tina, the kids and I went into the lobby while Paul and Mark parked the cars.

A CM asked us if we needed help. We told him our room numbers and he gave us directions. It was a loooonnnngggg walk from the lobby to our building. When we planned our trip we wanted to stay in a deluxe resort. Tina loved the convenience of being in a monorail resort when we stayed at the Poly a few years ago. So we had booked rooms in the Garden building because it was considerably less expensive than being in the A frame. We loved the rooms and enjoyed the resort, but the long walk was definitely a downside to the Garden buidling. We had requested that our rooms be in close proximity. Our request was granted and we were right across the hall from one another! Here are some pics of the room.
Refrigerator and coffee maker were straight ahead as we entered the room.

The fridge was actually inside the cabinet and there were sliding drawers for snacks.

To the right of the fridge was the bathroom. I really liked the look of the door. It was a sliding door, which was different from other rooms we've stayed in.

The patio

A bit of the view from the patio.

We had hoped to arrive in time to do a bit of exploring and maybe go for a swim, but we all needed to shower and get ready for our dinner ADR. Adam was the first to shower and took the opportunity for a quick nap while the rest of us got ready.

Soon we were all freshened up and ready for our evening. After seeing all of @Doc Disney's pics in front of these Mickey Ears I had to get a picture here.
We clean up pretty well!

We took a quick peek at the mural on our way to the monorail.

We boarded the monorail but where were we headed?

Up next: Dinner at........

Arrived! Any guesses where we are?

If you guessed the Poly, you're right!

I know everyone takes this picture, but I absolutely LOVE these lights!

We had to take a group photo in front of the tiki man. I don't know why, but I love him!

We hoped to check in early, but they were booked solid so we amused ourselves taking selfies and shopping while we waited.

Look what Allie found!

Prepare for an overload of pictures of things I wanted to buy!

Later in the trip I actually did end up buying these key chains for my teammates at school.

Up next: We actually make it to dinner!

So many pins!

Still waiting to be called in

Finally! We were called to be seated at

This was our first time here and we were excited to try it! We had tried for an earlier reservation because we wanted to eat and then watch HEA from the beach. I tried and tried for an earlier reservation but had to settle for 8:45. We didn't get seated until almost 9 and were in the midst of ordering when HEA started so our first sight of HEA would have to wait. In hindsight this was a good thing, but it was a bit of a bummer at the time.
Our Cousin Debbie came and took our drink order. She was very nice, but we had a few issues with drink orders. She forgot to put in the order for Adam's first drink, so it came later than everyone else's. Later, he ordered a second drink and he never received it.
More pics of us while we waited for drinks...

Drinks and food began to arrive!
MMMM. Bread.

I ordered the Island Sunset

Adam ordered a backscratcher. Not sure if this is it or someone else's drink. I know he liked the Backscratcher enough to order a second one later in the meal (that's the one that never arrived).

Sorry, no salad picture. We loved the salad. Here are the noodles, wings and potstickers. I enjoyed all of these foods, especially the wings.

I apologize for not having any pictures of the meat (my food pics are more hit or miss than I remembered). The meat was plentiful, but some of the steak was overdone and some of it was way too rare for our liking.
Then came the bread pudding! This was the food I was most looking forward to trying. OMG! Soooooo good! :banghead: I have no picture of this! Apparently people only took videos which I cannot get to upload and I am too lazy to lift one from the internet, lol!
We were stuffed! We had to roll ourselves out of there! We really enjoyed the experience and overall the food was good. Unfortunately we felt like it didn't fully live up to our expectations. Service was both too quick and too slow. Sometimes we barely had time to start one item before the next was served. Then we sat waiting on others. The meats were inconsistently cooked and as I mentioned before, drinks were slow and sometimes forgotten. It was a VERY expensive meal and I wanted to love Ohana, but I think it may be a one and done for us.

After our meal, we boarded the monorail and headed back to the Contemporary. It was time for bed so that we could get an early start for our first park day at MK!!!!

Up next: Heading to MK!
