Hi all-I'm going to WDW in late August for the first time (usually a winter traveler). Do I need to bring bug repellent for adults/samll children? If so, any recommedations

OMG!! Bugs in Florida???

Honestly, it's Florida and there is the usual number of bugs UNLESS the love bugs are out. Then, you can say there are lots of bugs!! Bring the bug repellent just in case if bugs bother you in general. And yes, there are mosquito's too (but aren't they almost everywhere in the summer??)

I actually have never had a mosquito problem while in WDW, however here in Mass whenever I go outside I get tons, so I don't know...
Just watch out for the ginourmous bugs that look like super-cockroaches...I think they are called palmetto bugs. Eeewww.

We bring bug spray every trip but have never found a need for it. If you want the be 100% safe Bull frog now makes sunscreen with bug repellant in it (very cool). Have a great trip

Um, Ok. I have seen the palmetto bugs (aka, huge cockroaches) however I don't think I have seen a lovebug and I have gone to WDW a few times in September....what do they look like?

We, too, have never had a need for the bug repellant. I guess it's just too blessed hot for mosquitos.

But I sure hate the love bugs. If anyone has any advice for repelling them (off the camper, for instance) - I'd love to hear it.

I have been there for just about every month and have never had a problem with bugs. I will be there at the end of Aug. so we will see.

I've never had a major issue with bugs, but I usually bring some repellent just in case. I'll be going at the end of August also, so I was doing a little research.

Recently I discovered Badger brand, which is all natural. They have a "bug balm" that is in a little round tin, it seems to work pretty well. Though I'm not sure it would help if the bugs were out in full force, the stuff seems to do a decent job of keeping the usual bugs away when you're out at night. It also doesn't have a terrible or chemical smell to it. I found it at a local Wegman's but I've also seen the brand carried at smaller specialty bath shops, places where you may find products similar to Burt's Bees.

Here's the website http://www.badgerbalm.com/

The chap stick is also good (I have the tangerine breeze I believe) as is the sore muscle balm. I think it's best to avoid unnecessary chemicals when I can. Oh and Burt's Bees just came out with a new bug bite stick that really seems to work wonders...for the times I forgot to use the Bug Balm or when mosquitoes seem to have sneaked into my house and bit me in the middle of the night. :goodnevil

Just so you know, WDW has a department called "Pest Control" whose job is to spend countless hours ridding the parks and resorts of pesky bugs.

There are bugs at WDW, but you'll encounter far fewer then pretty much anywhere else in Florida. If anything, wear some sort of mosquito repellant, as they can pop up pretty much anywhere at any time - though i've never been bitten at WDW.

Also - if you're squeamish about critters, do not, I repeat: DO NOT ride the Land boat ride at night. All the bugs living in the attraction's greenhouses come out of hiding.

WOW! I never thought about that. :hurl:

We had a problem with mosquitos at Illuminations last year. We all got several bites before we put on "bug juice" as we call it in our family. I like the Off Deep Woods towelettes - they are easy to carry.

We didn't have a problem anywhere else.

I never knew they made the towelettes. That is something i am going to pick up and just keep in the car for whenever i may need it.

thanks.

I have heard at night when they wash everything down at WDW they spray a natural bug repellent. I think that it is speramint. Some say you can smell it when you enter the parks but I have never smelled it before. :veryconfu Has any one else hard this?
