Las Vegas Monorail

Last week, Las Vegas had the groundbreaking for its new monorail system which will be a significant expansion to the existing 1-mile 2-station line. The expansion will introduce nine Bombardier MVI monorail trains which are similar to the trains currently at Walt Disney World but have only four cars and are totally automated.

This is sad news for Walt Disney World monorail fans, because when the new trains arrive the two existing trains are likely to hit the scrap heap. The current trains are from the WDW Mark IV fleet (don't know which ones) and are the only two remaining in operation. In fact, they represent HALF of the world's existing Mark IV monorail trains (Disney has the other two survivors, Silver and Red, mothballed in a warehouse in Kissimmee).

Those of you who miss the original monorails that once served at Walt Disney World better plan a trip to Las Vegas soon or you'll miss your last chance to see them.
