One thing Universal tends to lag on is demolitions. For example, haunted houses could still be spotted one month after the end of Halloween Horror Nights. Even the old Ghostbusters show took them quite some time to demolish. But this is not so with Kongfrontation.
I took a look at the Kong soundstage about 2 weeks ago. At that point the building was almost entirely empty. There were no ride artifacts left. There were no standing structures. The ground was covered in dirt, as if it had been "dug up." The only noticable items in there were a couple of yellow bulldozers. Everything in the building has been demolished. Everything meaning everything behind the main entrance doors of the ex-attraction. If you visit the old entrance now and look through the glass doors, you will see sets of doors about 20 feet in (the "hot set" doors) and a "garage door" type of utility door. If you notice rubbel at the base of this door, it's because all of the concrete directly behind it has been demolished. When I say this building is empty, I mean it's EMPTY.
I was very surprised to see that Universal had completed primary demolition so quickly. Hopefully this means that construction on a new attraction will begin quickly as well. Granted, there really wasn't that much to be demolished, considering that the majority of the show building was empty space, such as an open street below the ride vehicle, and simple false-front buildings.
Does anyone know where the items from Kong which were saved have been taken to? Or how much of the props were actually saved at all?
