Kong - Quick Demolition

One thing Universal tends to lag on is demolitions. For example, haunted houses could still be spotted one month after the end of Halloween Horror Nights. Even the old Ghostbusters show took them quite some time to demolish. But this is not so with Kongfrontation.

I took a look at the Kong soundstage about 2 weeks ago. At that point the building was almost entirely empty. There were no ride artifacts left. There were no standing structures. The ground was covered in dirt, as if it had been "dug up." The only noticable items in there were a couple of yellow bulldozers. Everything in the building has been demolished. Everything meaning everything behind the main entrance doors of the ex-attraction. If you visit the old entrance now and look through the glass doors, you will see sets of doors about 20 feet in (the "hot set" doors) and a "garage door" type of utility door. If you notice rubbel at the base of this door, it's because all of the concrete directly behind it has been demolished. When I say this building is empty, I mean it's EMPTY.

I was very surprised to see that Universal had completed primary demolition so quickly. Hopefully this means that construction on a new attraction will begin quickly as well. Granted, there really wasn't that much to be demolished, considering that the majority of the show building was empty space, such as an open street below the ride vehicle, and simple false-front buildings.

Does anyone know where the items from Kong which were saved have been taken to? Or how much of the props were actually saved at all?

Most interesting. Still no official word on what the replacement is though, huh? Obviously they know what is going in to be working so fast, so I wonder when they will go public? And when is IoA gonna get a nice addition? Storm Force and Unicorn were moderate additions at best and that was a few years back now.

Coaster

I don't know if this is a great idea but I was thinking it may help boost hype and anticipation if they (Universal) created a "coming soon" coaster attraction demo area in the Express Pass lobby area which housed the Express Pass machines for Kong. They've already got tons of tv monitors in there, so it would be an excellent place to promote a new attraction. The building area was used to promote Islands of Adventure the year before it opened, so promoting a 'coming soon' attraction wouldn't be a first for Universal. And it seems appropriate to promote future attractions with large displays, ala Missions Space's display in Innoventions at EPCOT.

They've already released some information about the Jimmy Newtron attraction via the Annual Passholder Newsletter, so I don't see "going public" with some ride details being a problem for Universal either.

Just my thoughts,

Hopefully they won't focus the new coaster too much on the Scorpion King, but more on the Mummy itself.

Yeah, but they probably won't like that very much since before it was just supposed to be Graffiti.

It will be missed, however, on a more positive note, it would appear that US are sure in a hurry to clear the attraction for something.

I read an article in the orlando sentinal saying the attraction will be based more on the mummy than scorpion king. Since the mummy movies did better at the box office, and that there is a good chance for a 3rd mummy movie. From what i read, it'll be an indoor coaster that should be a nice addition.

I think IOA needs a new attraction soon. There really hasn't been a big addition since the park opened. They did open storm force and unicorn, but nothing major. Still waiting on that Jurassic Park Jeep Adventure.

Speaking of quick demolitions, Hanna Barbera and Hitchcock are also going to be quick clear-outs, as their replacements are scheduled to be open by next summer at the latest.

What are their replacements scheduled to be?

(I know, I know - tired question. I just don't get out much!)
