Yay!!! I still have to finish the second one. I've been reading it off and on for a while but I really need to get this. Wish I could be there for the signing. The cover looks like a little elementary school kids book but I still love the series!

I love the concept of the series, but the writing leaves me wanting more, I feel.

The first book felt like it was only a first draft. He did vastly improve on the second book.

The concept alone is so strong, however, that I think they are great stories. I've even taken up writing a screenplay based on the first book, for practice sake, because it covers very familiar ground for me.

Did he ?

I don't think I ever read the second one just because of the writing in the first one. (or if I did read it, I promptly forgot it)

Ridley Pearson is going to be at my sons school with copies of the book! He is coming to speak to the 6-8th graders. Would it look odd if a parent showed up and was all "I'm such a big fan", or would my son just roll his eyes and say, "you don't understand what a Disney nerd my mom is" to his friends?:ROFLOL:

I would agree, but they're still ejoyable to read. Keep in mind, their target audience for these books has been pre-teens and young teens. So, if you're an adult reading these, which I am as well, you may find them a bit lacking in their development.

Indeed they are strong concepts. I think I heard an interview with Ridley and Dave and they said how they had been approached about the possiblity of a screenplay/movie, but it was just talk and nothing further. I think it would make for a really incredible movie, but I doubt Disney would ever do it or authorize it. The thought of seeing some of the characters coming to life and committing the acts they do in the books might scare some people enough to prevent them from ever going in the parks again.

I think a better adaptation of the books might be in the form an RPG style video game where you could play online with others running around virtual parks that resemble Disney parks.

I saw this for sale in the Magic Kingdom last week. I remember thinking to myself, "I never even knew there was a second one." Hopefully it was better than the first Kingdom Keepers.

It's funny, Ridley issued a blog a long time ago that talked about why Disney was iffy on making a Kingdom Keepers movie, and I made sure to address the issues in the screenplay I wrote, mostly avoiding Utilidors as a plot point. I also changed the Splash Mountain scene since Disney wouldn't want kids copying that. I took great care to make it a) a fun adaptation of the book, sort of a Goonies for a modern audience and b) something Disney would want to greenlight, both from a park advertising standpoint, and a franchise one. Writing the screenplay was a blast, and I hope to do something with it someday, but I know it's just a fun dream.

I think, however, they are making an online RPG game based on the books using similar game technology as VMK (which makes sense considering how much the books rely on VMK for plot points)

We saw it on sale last week at the MK and at our resort. I tried to buy a copy at the PoTC gift shop. When the guy went to ring it up, it wouldn't let him. He called a manager over and they discovered that the book wasn't supposed to be out on display until April 6. Needless to say, we were disappointed. My girls really like the books.
