I tried searching for this topic, but came up empty. I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I was just looking for some feedback from people that have gone on the keys to the kingdom tour. I'm going to have 5 days at WDW, and was just curious if anyone could tell me if it would be worth sacrificing 4-5 hours of attractions to go on this tour. It sounds great, can anyone confirm??

Also - how far in advance do you need to make reservations for this tour - we are taking a group down during December. Any age restrictions? Some will be younger students from our studio.
Thanks!

If you've been to WDW before I'd say yeah,do the Keys tour, but if it's your first time going I'd say skip it, and see all the parks you can in your 5 days.

I love the Keys to the Kingdom Tour! You have to be 16 to go on it because it involves going in some backstage areas (where they store the parade floats and also down into the Utilidoors). You also do go on a couple attractions (they change though--I went on the Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion) and you get a lunch included in the middle of the tour (it was at the Columbia Harbor House when I went). It's definitely worth while if you are into the background of how the magic works. The only tour I like more is the Walk in Walt's Footsteps at Disneyland :)

I have a couple of 12 yr olds in the group - maybe their parents can do something else with them while we do the tour - I imagine they check to be sure the participants are at least 16 yrs old.

it's a liability issue. While backstage, you can see things like characters w/ their heads off and the like, so they can't have people under 16 seeing stuff like that.

We did this tour in Dec 2000 & it was great. You get a lot of history of the park & the imagineers that worked on it. Our guide pointed out lots of things I had never noticed--we saw hidden mickeys etc. It was great to get a close up look at the parade floats & to see "backstage areas." It was well worth the time & money in my opinion.

I agree though that if it's your first visit you might want to spend more time in the parks having fun or if you are not a real Disney buff that is detail oriented it might not be for you.

They do check a picture id when you check in---which I am sure is their way of making sure everyone is over 16

It's definitely worth it! If you want to do Grizzly Hall a HUUUUGE favor, ask your tour guide what happened to "TALL PAUL" - a veteran MK Cast Member at Guest Relations who has done the tour. Thanks!!
I will keep that in mind, because i'm pretty sure based on what's being said here, that we will do it. I've only been to WDW once before and probably won't be back for a few more years, but all that behind-the-scenes and secrets stuff is so freakin' cool!!! I can't wait!!!

My friend is not a Disney fan and for work they brought them on the tour. He said it was great, interesting and fun.

I highly reccomend the Keys to the Kingdom.
My only complaint, having done it a couple of times, is that since 9/11 they have drastically cut down on the time you spend in the utilidors.
But hey, that's just me. I still think it's a great tour.

A better one, though, is Backstage Magic. But only if you are a HUGE park freak.

My pal DizWiz and I did the tour just a few months ago and had Tall Paul as our guide. He was great! It seemed like he didn't do the tours regularly anymore but was "pinch hitting" for someone else. Not sure though.
