Captain America: Civil War marks the fifth time that Scarlett Johansson has played Natasha Romanov, aka Black Widow, in a Marvel Studios movie and the cry for her own solo film has never been louder. Promises have been made over the years, but now, speaking with Deadline, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says the studio is “committed” to making a solo film for the character in the future.

“We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow…We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.”

Marvel Studios currently has only one female-led feature on their schedule, Captain Marvel, which is set for release March 8, 2019, though the upcoming Ant-Man sequel will be co-headliner titled Ant-Man and The Wasp, set to debut July 6, 2018. There are three Marvel Studios movies without titles set for release in 2020 on May 1, July 10, and November 6, respectively; though it remains to be seen if any of them will be a Black Widow movie.

If they did a Widow movie, that would be fine with me. As long as she is working with one of the other heroes (or new hero) that's fine. I love the way her character worked in Ironman 2 and Winter soldier so I would love to see that formula reversed. It's her story with another hero helping her out.

There is also the possibility of an all female heroes movie coming as well, esp after Scarlett etc went to Feige and said we want one

I want Mockingbird to get moved from Marvel TV to film so badly. I get that probably won’t happen (a lot of her story would involve Hawkeye, and idk what is planned for Hawkeye in the future), but the Agents of Shield didn’t use Bobbi enough, IMO.

She-Hulk is tied up with Universal, I think, so if they want a ‘bruiser’, maybe they could go with Valkyrie?

Bobbi wasn't used more as they were going to go ahead with the Mockingbird TV show so she was written out, then of course the TV show didn't happen. And I doubt the character will appear in the movies as they have said if the char is in a movie/tv show they will probably not crossover, the only caveat with that is Coulson but then he started on the movies and because everyone liked the character so much he was brought back to anchor the Shield TV series.

They’d have to recast her, but I don’t think Marvel’s going to bother. They’ve morphed some of her characteristics into Widow

Feige is shutting down rumors of the movie being R.

Also, he mentions that the MCU 3 films a year structure may be going away and moving back to 2 a year.

That's because their cruel overlord is ordering them to feed the D+ragon!
So I’m a little late on this, but I did just find out that Disney pulled the July 2020 date from the Marvel schedule, bringing the total number of MCU films for the year to 2: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/disneys-jungle-cruise-pushed-back-july-2020-1153739

That leaves May or November 2020 for Black Widow (I’m assuming). It’s probably the least demanding for special effects, meaning they can get it together relatively quickly without too many people knowing.
