Timehop reminded me that 8 years ago today I was boarding Maelstrom for its final voyage.

Although I appreciate the lighting in its replacement, Maelstrom was quintessential Epcot--a great teacher on Norwegian culture while still being fun (and in that case, thrilling).

Frozen is a better attraction, but I think Maelstrom fits the real Epcot more. The park used to emphasize Edutainment, now it just wants to put in random IP's. I think there's a balance they could have gone with to keep that going, but they took the easy way out.

In a perfect world we would have had both rides. If Frozen would have been put at Hollywood instead. I'm sure no one would have had a problem with it, if it was placed correctly.

Last night I dreamt that the old Wonders of Life building was repurposed to actually be the new Imagination attraction. It utilized sideways omnimover vehicles the way Horizons did, but they were still split up into five car trains like the Imagination ride has always been. The show scenes were absolutely MASSIVE. The ride was a combination of playful and frightening but not in a bad way. Wish I could remember more, it was fun.

Yeah! The Play pavilions been canceled, so there's hope for something better. Perhaps they could bring back some of the earlier ideas for it.
