It feels out of order to have completely finished some sections of this attraction while huge portions seem so completely unfinished. Dirt, raw concrete, while even the soft goods and artificial plans have been installed...almost as if there is a rush to show some progress, any progress, while it is still a year away from it's announced opening date... Artificial plants and flowers all fade over time...It feels like they will be well worn before this park section even opens...

If I remember correctly, the same process was used in Pandora.
They didn't complete all of the structures, then paint them, then detail them. That probably takes even longer.

Just… no. A contracted isn’t going to hurt their sequencing and make things hard to show visible progress to some unknown audience that doesn’t know what’s actually happening.

Doing it this way is surely a marketing decision. Having part of it done gives people and idea of what to expect and something to get excited for.

WDI under Bouza has taken on a soulless, bland corporate patina, so it’s no wonder this looks like a slightly outside the box lobby display you might find in a Des Moines Holiday Inn Express

What percentage of the area would you say is now to the point of paint or such? Hard to tell where Journey ends and work for the rest of Celebration begins.

It looks like there are only two areas with significant rockwork finishing still in progress. The first is the third major formation on the left after entering, which leads toward the cave at the rear; the second is the rockwork that surrounds the edge of the pool where the Te Fiti sculpture will be situated. Only the latter looks like it still needs gunite application in places. Obviously, some painting is also still happening on the cave itself as the scaffolding is still up, but that seems to be wrapping up.

The "raw concrete" others were mentioning when talking about the inconsistent finish will likely remain raw. Those look to be the rear walls of maintenance access pathways that will be otherwise concealed.
