Jimmy Neutron Reviews Anyone?

I rode Jimmy Neutrons Nicktoon Blast the first day it officially opened and to be honest I was pleasently suprised. I missed the media hype before the opening but from what I can gather a stunt person in a Jimmy costume flew into the park on a jet pack! Would have loved to have seen it.
Any ways the line and ride layout remains pretty much the same as it was when it was Hanna Barbarras accept it has new eye catching decor and ride vehicles.
The ride itself is based around Jimmy's enemy (not sure of the name) stealing his space cruiser and you have to help Jimmy chase him. The ride features the Rugrats, The Wild Thornberries, Spongebob Squarepants among various others. The effects include fog, bubbles and a very cool chicken dance sequence ( I wont say any more about that).

Overall its a nice change from the Funtastic World of HB but nothing revolutionary or cutting edge, however it is worth riding as it is entertaining. Note that line times last week were 45+ minutes.

I rode it the 5th day it opened. lol I like it SOOOO much better. I personally love the chicken dance. You have to go on to see what I mean. My only disappointment was to see that pretty much everything stayed the same just with some extra added color and little things!

In other words is the same plot as HB's (the chase) but with Jimmy Neutron.

Is not a 3D show right?

Pretty much so I mean Jimmy Neutron is supposed to be 'controlling' your spaceship. No it's not 3D.

This seems to be a bit of a waste of money for Universal to me. Maybe it's because I'm getting old (35) and the HB characters have a huge place in my heart. I've been a big fan of Scooby Doo, Mutly, Betty Rubble (Babe! ) etc since I was a kid..... but who in the name of Scooby Snaks are The Wild Thornberries & Spongebob Squarepants. I've just got back from Florida and I did see people with soft toy versions of Spongebob but I've never heard of them. Maybe they are not on the TV in the UK... or maybe I just spend too many hours working to see cartoons these day. :(

Do these characters have the same type of following as the HB characters?

If so why just revamp the old ride..... do they think we are stupid and won't notice?

Well I guess the plan worked if it was a 45 Min plus queue. Longest I queued was about 20 for Jaws.

I have to agree that their choice of characters for the ride was an error. None of them, except Spongebob and the Rugrats, are gonna be popular in a few years. The Fairly Oddparents? I haven't even heard of them and I used to work in a toy store! And Jimmy Neutron's already losing popularity...

I may be old..... my god what am I saying!!! I'm only 35, you'll have me in a old folks home next!

I just can't see these characters still being as popular in 30 years time, the way the HB characters have.

From a business side I guess they are pushing the new characters but then you also want the ride to have the widest appeal to draw the public in. Maybe they don't think us OAP's should be on the ride

Now the Shrek ride I can totally understand and I'm really looking forward to that! Can't wait until next march for my next visit.

If you want to see video from the pre-show and ride, then check out Orlando Rocks. You have to sign up to get the goods, but it's free.

I haven't ridden the ride yet, but from watching the videos it was rather hard for me to follow the story. Perhaps it's because I haven't seen any of those cartoons used in the ride (I'm only 22 years old!), or perhaps it wasn't explained well enough in the pre-show. Either way I really miss the old Hanna Barbera ride.

To the next generation if kiddies I think they do. My 7 year old knows all these characters and loves em to bits.

And don't forget that JN had his first big screen outing last year and it went down pretty well.

Sorry, but I think that at 35 we're both getting older...

I think this was one of Universal's dumbest moves. I guess they're trying to appeal to the kiddies, but they need to appeal to the adults, too. Afterall, it is the adults that are spending the money!

Unless you watch Nickelodeon-produced cartoons, this ride is totally confusing. I personally hated it. I was ready to get out of there 15 second in to the ride. They need to go back to the classic characters that everyone recognizes. Adults know Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, etc...and so do the little kiddies! This ride just leaves too many people in the dark...and totally unimpressed. But I also can't stand the "animation" used in the cartoons Nickelodeon is doing. I'm use to the more refined techniques used by Warner Bros. (which owns Hanna-Barberra) and Disney. Cartoons like "Rugrats" look like someone drew a couple of squiggly lines and called it a day.

Kiddies will love this ride (as long as they've seen the cartoons); adults will wonder what the heck kids are watching these days. If you don't have kids on the trip with you, walk on by....

At this point in time, the nicktoons seem to be the most popular cartoons... The building is also in the nickelodeon area... It only made sense. Although I will miss the Hannah Barbara character (aside from Disney, they are my favorite), I'm sure this one is also good.

I like some of the Nicktoons (Spongebob, Jimmy, Fairly Odd Parents, Old Rugrats). I liked the old ride, but I hardly ever went there I wish I coulda went on it one last time.

And about them being classic - well I think Doug and the older Rugrats are classics to me becuase I grew up seeing those.

I agree in part to the "flawed logic" discussion as far as questioning Universal goes. I have two kids as well as two nephews and a niece. In fact, I know way too many kids now that I think about it. They all know and worship Scooby Doo, probably one of their all-time favorites. But they also know and worship most of the new stuff.

Hanna-Barbara is not really associated with Universal, in fact kind of always seemed out of place. But to compare them to Nicktoons is kind of silly. I mean, when's the last time Hanna-Barbera created a marketable character that anyone watches? Gotta be at least back in the '80's. H-B's heyday was the 1960's and 1970's, which alas is quite a long time ago.

Although I'm not as fond of the Nick guys as I am of Hanna-Barbera's, I understand some of the logic used in why USF went this direction w/ the ride. Like it or not, the new ride has more appeal to kids, making it all the more appealing to families looking for something not-too-scary to ride.

As a Dad, I applaud USF for making this change as well as adding Shrek 4-D to their landscape. In fact, if anything both Universal parks could use more cool kid attractions that aren't Dumbo-clones, playgrounds, or mini-coasters.

As far as the "I don't know the characters/They don't hold a candle to old characters" argument, the same can be said for the Playhouse Disney Shows on both coasts. Aside from the Pooh characters, how many adults w/o young kids or older kids know Bear, Stanley, and Rolie Polie Olie? Yet these shows are always packed.

But again, both Playhouse and Jimmy Neutron weren't exactly made with a teen and young adult audience in mind.

I, for one, am actually excited to ride Jimmy Neutron. It's sounds pretty hip and funny to me.

Hanna-Barbara produced shows on Cartoon Network, such as Dexter's Labratory, Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, and the Powerpuff Girls. H-B has fazed out now, and is pretty much Cartoon Network Studios.

Geez bmxviper02, don't take everything so personally! I posted my opinion/assessment...I was speaking for myself. This is a place to give a review of the ride, and I did just that. It's obvious you don't agree with me, but you don't have to go so crazy about it!

As a matter of fact, I HAVE drawn a cartoon. I worked for Warner Bros. at one point in my life and have an extremely large collection of animation cels from classic Warner Bros. cartoons and movies, original cels and concept drawings used in Disney animated feature films and drawings, a hand-drawn Fred Flintstone done by Bill Hannah himself and a host of cels and drawings of other classic characters. Do the recent Nickelodeon cartoons match up to the quality of Warner Bros. and Hannah-Barbera cartoons? Absolutely not! But hey, if you like them, that's your right.

If you're 15, chances are you grew up watching Nickelodeon cartoons and your parents watched them, too. I'm 24...I've seen "Rugrats", "The Wild Thornberrys", "Jimmy Neutron" and the other Nickelodeon cartoons currently being produced when I've flipped through the channels. I've never been impressed by the few moments I've seen to watch them for any extended length of time.

I didn't like the ride and I believe many people who have reached voting age probably share my feelings about it. If you don't have kids and you don't watch the Nickelodeon cartoons on a regular basis, this ride is something that can defintely be skipped. In my opinion, it's not worth the wait.

You can't convince me that "everyone" knows "every" one of these characters...it's simply too new and aimed at too specific of an audience for "everyone" to know them.

PLEASE NOTE: This is the opinion of PurpleFigment and PurpleFigment alone. PurpleFigment is NOT speaking for anyone else or the population at large. Please remember this is an internet discussion forum and don't take anything personally! Thank you. -- PurpleFigment :hammer:

Also...Hannah-Barbera is now owned by Warner Bros.. Hannah-Barbera technically stopped producing new concepts when Warner Bros. acquired them. There have been some projects using the characters and cartoons, but no completely new characters or cartoons are being implemented under the Hannah-Barbera name itself...some things are still coming out labeled Hannah-Barbera, but in the fine print you'll always now see that it's a division of Warner Bros. Animation.
