Trip Report January Trip to Disney World Now in Color!

I'm a bit late posting this trip report. I hope it's worth the wait.

It was a cold January in Florida. It was cold when I left NY and cold when I got to FL so, I didn't care.

Our first stop was the Kennedy Space Center. I got to be an astronaut.

The next day we went to Disney World. Ah, the castle...

There was a parade on Main Street and I got to meet Prince John.

We then went to ride the race cars.

After the thrilling speed of the raceway, we had a nice sit down in the Country Bear's Jamboree.

I needed to stretch my legs for a while so we went off to Tom Sawyer's Island. I got to defend the fort and stand on walls without safety handrails.

We used our tickets for Cinderella's Carousel. Well, I am the only one who rode.




My mom, my grandfather and myself went on Snow White. I wasn't scared at all! I kinda thought it was silly but, Grandpa liked it.

We followed that up with a no-wait line for Peter Pan. The red and yellow ship wasn't my favorite but, I was happy to ride.

We got to see a few of the ride natives. I still think the princess is pretty.

I wanted to do the driving for a change so we did Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. I hadn't seen the movie but, I thought I would enjoy driving around and looking at all of the nifty characters.

The Tea Cups were one of my favorites. My mother and father took turns riding with me so only one parent was dizzy at a time. I like to make them go *really fast!

Now it is time to tell about the most magical moment of my trip!

It was very cold. There was ice on the ground near the carousel. Cold. My father, a NYer, insists it was "bitterly cold". Because of the temperatures, the park was a bit empty. Most of the attractions had little or no waits. The attractions and restaurants had some heat. We were running low on tickets when I asked to go on mine and Grandpa's favorite ride "it's a small world". Grandpa had seen it at the worlds fair and still liked to ride.




We got to sit in my favorite seat, the front. I sang along with the music and secretly wanted to be up on the stages singing with the dolls. At the end of the ride, I was sad that we had to get off but I thought I would try for a cute-play and ask Grandpa if we could go again. The Cast Member heard me and told us to stay in the same boat and go again. <gasp> We could ride again? <gasp> We could stay in the same boat? <gasp> The Cast Member didn't ask for our tickets! Weeeeeee.

According to legend, my parents sitting up in Geppetto's, we rode iasw 6 times without getting out of the boat. I'm not 100% sure how Grandpa got me to leave the boat. I probably tried to bargain to go alone, to live in the boat, or join the cast.

I took Husband to Disneyland for the first time and had him ride iasw with me. At the end, he turned to me and said "It's a very cute ride. Grandpa must have loved you very much to ride it 6 times in a row."

I have read a lot of trip reports...a lot...and written a few myself...

And I think this is the best trip report I have read...ever.

It brings me right back to the days when my grandfather and parents used to take me (though, it was about a decade later for me, though I did do a trip with my Parents when EPCOT opened)...and why I love that special park so much.

Awesome pictures!

I can't wait for the next installment! I just can't wait (POST IT NOW!!!! <grin>)

Woo hoo! Thank you! I think I totally rock the polyester pants.

I have a few pictures from EPCOT in 1983. I'm still digging through boxes and albums for other trips.

Sadly, none of these pictures were altered with Instagram.

In theory, there are good pictures of this trip in slide (not PowerPoint) format. My father had the better camera and the better camera skills. I would like to get those shots and convert them digitally.

I have some pictures taken in front of spots in the MK that I don't recognize. Should I put them in this thread or is the photography forum a better place?

I bought my dad a digital photo converter for slides a few years back. He really enjoyed it and pretty much spent the better part of his free non-fishing non-cooking non-swimming time converting every single slide I think our family ever had created.

As for the MK pics...I'd still put them in here.

Grandpa was a wonderful and indulgent man. He believed that children should be children for as long as possible. I rode iasw for the in 2011 after he died and was in tears by the end.

My mom wanted to come with us for my son's first visit to WDW. The Boy loved Space Ranger Spin and wanted to ride repeatedly. I think my mom did 4 in a row with him. She was thrilled she got to 'do a Grandpa' with the Boy.

Odd note: Grandpa wouldn't do Carousel of Progress. He said he saw it at the worlds fair and that was enough. So, 6 times on iasw was okay but CoP is only good once?
