We are thinking about going to Disney January 1-7, 2023 is it going to be crowded or should we pick a different week? I’m hoping to go with the smallest crowds possible.

New years eve is a saturday. I could see people staying sunday. Then again people might early sunday to get back to work on Monday.
Even if people come in for new years eve, i think the latter part of your trip would be pretty nice.
Not sure if new years eve is mostly locals, or if people come from farther and stay the week after.

Also the arts festival is starting on the 14th... so that might make epcot busy then so if you move your trip keep that in mind.

WDW is not mostly locals EVER. So its mostly people coming in from far away and some schools may not go back until the following week.

It will be crowded.

Third week will be less crowded than the first week, races run the first couple and it draws a large crowd

Less crowded but still crowded since that's MLK week.

I'd say a better option is to not go Sunday to Saturday but rather mid week to mid week to avoid that Monday holiday at least.

All the people i see on youtube are locals ;) I thought the parks were 50 percent outsiders 50 percent vloggers from florida :)
sorry, im in a silly mood today
I guess we know the reality - Disney has filled the holes so it is crowded ALL the time now.

We were at the MK on Monday, January 3 and it was about as crowded as I have ever seen it. To be fair, in the past we have gone during what was once known as "off-season", something that no longer exists.

So we are booking with a travel agent. She is saying it won’t be busy at all. Do they get more commission if they book when it’s busy or something trying to get us to go that week?

They nay get commission based on overall price and around New Years is the highest cost of the year... because there is the highest demand for hotels and theme parks.

She probably just doesn't know any better. To be honest, I'd question any of her other advice as well as she clearly doesn't know much about Disney parks.

No. Remember you're going to Florida, not Chicago. This isn't a bad season to go. September-October is amazing season to go. December-April are awful times to go. Remember, its really, really freezing from December-March up north, but its manageable to gorgeous up here. There's no free lunch. You don't get to escape the brutal cold to come to Florida and expect it to be slow.

Say this to yourself nice and slowly:

Parents will take their kids out of school to go to Disney. Don't worry about the school year as much. Hone in more on the climate/seasons and you'll find your answer. The only time that the school year does matter is for the short micro breaks like spring break, winter break, and Thanksgiving break. Summer break isn't really as important since the country has three months to spread it out over, and not a few weeks.

As others have said there’s not really a slow time anymore, just slightly less busy.

We’ve had good luck in early Nov (pre thanksgiving crowds) and early Dec (pre Christmas crowds) but even that was significantly busier than what we experienced a decade ago.

Just expect it be busy and you’ll have fun no matter when you go. Better to expect busy and be surprised by lower crowds than to try to plan for low crowds and be surprised by heavy crowds.

ETA: we’ll be there that week for Marathon weekend, along with probably 50,000 others, so it’ll be packed during the afternoons but a lot of us will be leaving the parks early for our 2am alarms the next morning and we also won’t be in the parks until late morning / early afternoon because we’ll be running in the mornings. If you are early morning, afternoon break, late night people it could be a good week for you.

Also, expect some traffic chaos in the mornings that week, the half and full on Sat and Sun have some road closures that can make getting to the parks very frustrating.

Good luck and have fun at the races and show off your Mickey medals while in the parks, post race! Where are you going to eat your carb loaded dinner the night before?

I think you may need a new TA. I’ve found the suggestions and observations on this forum to be mostly correct when it comes to crowds. We always stay away from any marathon week. Those are super popular. We’re shooting for the end of January for our next trip.
