James Gunn - Suicide Squad

Still feeling comfortable with your decision, Mr. Horn? Think you did the right thing in not simply having a temporary suspension and investigating, or just saying "we believed him then, and we believe him now?"

And do you truly feel that you were right in letting this stand, Mr. Iger? That you don't wish you simply reined Horn in and told him to stand down?

I liked suicide squad, didn't love it but I thought it had some of the better stuff I have seen in the DCEU. I hated Lettos joker, and that's what held the movie back for me. I think Gunn could do some great things with this series.

maybe Gunn can help DC rise up to challenge marvel more. I loved his guardians movies, I think he did a great job. Was also very disappointed in Disney's decision, but I had never read the tweets. So today I finally read the tweets just to see what all the hubbub was about. Ok, now I agree with the decision, and can understand Disney's stance.

I think the fact that a major studio picked up Gunn so fast, proves Disneys overreaction. DC has had so many issues that the fact that Gunn was hired shows they are not at all worried. I think Disney knows they screwed this up, but unfortunately they are not big enough to admit it. Or they just think the damage is done, why make it worse by reversing course.

Please, they were only jokes that were very blue and inappropriate. Disney knew what he did and if not then they deserve the egg on their face as many people (me!) knew about them. Joke are joke...not reality.

If Disney had not fired him, the entire story leading up to GOTG3 would have been focused on the "controversial" director and his horrid tweets. It's because Disney fired Gunn, he can now start his redemption tour and another studio can take a chance on him. The initial PR hit is over. He can go on talk shows and tearfully apologize as part of the hype for this new project. American's love that, and it's become the typical PR cycle. Disney was never going to be the beneficiary of it though. They had to fire him. Now that they did, and did it so quickly, the other studios benefit and Gunn can rightfully move on with his career. He got what he deserved when he was fired; now he deserves to move on. Disney will be fine; Marvel will be fine; and hopefully Gunn will be fine too. Had he stayed at Disney, the narrative is very, very different and none of this happens.

Or DC is so desperate that they made a calculated decision to take a chance.

Yea I don't agree, sorry. In my opinion they did not NEED to fire him. I think Gunn will be fine because everyone knows it was wrong to fire him in the first place. You are right people love redemption stories. Disney should have backed their guy and took credit for the fact he's not the same guy from 12yrs ago. If the tweets were on Disneys watch, I would agree with you but Disney hired him well after.

If they reversed course and apologized, that would actually help. Clearly, much of the reaction they had dealt with worries about being called hypocrites by people conflating the situation with Roseanne, treating it as the same when it isn't. But they've already lost that battle, because mouthbreathers on the Internet were already calling them that by comparing Roseanne with John Lasseter. Simply put, Disney decided to engage in a fight they have no chance of winning, and they should've known better and decided not to do so. It's also odd because Disney easily has the clout to push back and take a stand by saying "we believed him then, we believe him now, and he hasn't done that since." But instead, they curled up in a fetal position and whimpered "Please don't hurt me!"

Yes I agree. DC, a group one could argue is "struggling" or at the very least needing to shake things up, picks up a talented, but controversial individual actually makes good financial sense - less risk for them.

there are jokes, and there are what he said. I honestly up till today wanted to see a reversal, but those tweets were from a disturbed individual. they were not jokes. There is a line, he crossed it in a huge way. Maybe I just think this way with a newborn, but I wouldn't want someone around my son that even had a thought like that, let alone said it out loud, or tweeted it.

Sorry they were still jokes. You may not have liked it or thought it was funny but they were still jokes which in no way implied that he believed or did anything to make them a reality. No line was crossed at all except perhaps tweeting unfunny jokes.

Guess I'm all alone on this. I thought the two Guardians were the two worst films in the MCU. Certainly won't get me to go watch Suicide Squad.

you and I can disagree with the joke aspect of this, considering who he was associated with.

that said, I hope DC improves as they are so far behind Marvel its pathetic

if you said what he said in a school or govt job you would be fired, escorted off property and likely prosecuted/arrested. They were beyond a joke.

They ain't never catching up. Never gonna happen!!!

I do think Wonder Woman was a great movie for them and Aquaman looks like a winner. They tied themselves to Zach Snyder who is NOT a good director so we will see if they can right the ship.
