It's Not Christmas Without It!

Ok, Vince's post now has me thinking about Christmas a bit, and made me wonder...what is the one ornament or activity that its just NOT Christmas for you without?

For me, its a silly little papier mache snowman and a little pipe cleaner tree that are at least as old as my mother. They are worn out, and the snowman has had glitter lovingly added to his glitter over the years, but has seen better days. The trees are misshappen and bent, but its just NOT Christmas if they arent displayed prominently. They belonged to my grandmother, who kept them over the years, even though other newer and shinier decorations came and went in her house. So, after she passed, I took them, and put them out each year. They have been in my Christmas ever since I can remember, so if Grandma thought enough to keep them, then I will keep them too :)

It is not officially Christmas to me, until i've seen Nat'l Lampoons Christmas Vacation, and we put a fire in the fireplace, and drag out the electric blankets...

My dad carves a Santa figurine for me every Christmas, and it's just not Christmas until they're sitting on the piano!

Um, it's also just not Christmas until my credit cards cry for mercy. (Just kidding - I'm going to be a good girl this year.)

Its not Christmas in my house until the Nativity scene is set up. I have a country hutch in my dining room that I set it out on. The sets have changed over the years from my grandmothers (now broken) to a beautiful all white ceramic one that my sister lovingly spent all summer making for me. The overhang of the hutch is the "stable" and it fills it up beautifully.

My tree has to have my angel collection on it...and the ornaments we got for each girl..."Baby's first Christmas".

And of course the complete Turkey dinner that I am now in charge of making...with date nut bread for dessert. (something , for some reason, I only make for Christmas dinner and for gifts).

Hhhmmm... it´s not Christmas until we start receiving cakes and fruit cakes and bottles of liquor, and chocolates as presents from relatives and friends. :slurp: So many sweets!

We did this the other year for the first (and last) time...dog ate it.

Had a dog once who destroyed the tree getting to the candy canes, so we don't put them up anymore either.

When I was little, we got a kitten, Bubba. He was a baby and didnt know any better, so when the tree went up, so did Bubba...right up to the top, then back on to the floor, tree and all...on December 23! Broke everything...tree, ornaments, whatnot. My mother chased him and yelled at him, and in his infinite wisedom, he ran into the bathroom where she cornered him and hollered. It echoed and she scared him silly

He grew up to be quite the Christmas kittie, unwrapping his own gifts and even eatting the candy canes (NO idea why) but the closest he ever got to the tree again was laying UNDER it...never again to attempt to climb it!

It ain't Christmas for me if I don't watch "Rudolf the Red nose Reighndeer" clay animated cartoon. It annoys my parents to death!

Silver and gold, silver and gold....

It's not Christmas until the "angels" decorate our tree. My mom started that a long time ago when I was little and my sister know is convinced to.

It's not really Christmas until:

1. My greenery arrives. I order a box of assorted Christmas greenery every year, and make arrangements, a wreath, etc. I also order a "frame" of greenery that goes around my front door, and my Christmas tree.

2. I have my "marathon wrapping fenzy." I've already started my shopping, and over the next couple of weeks, I'll continue to accumulate gifts. Then, I spend a whole day wrapping them. I put my Christmas CDs on, and wrap away.

3. Our neighborhood has it's annual luminaria. People come from all over, there are hayrides, horse drawn carriages, carolling at the churches, even decorated bicycles and cars. Most people walk, as the traffic is bumper to bumper. I used to have an open house, but friends who didn't live within walking distance had too much trouble getting here.

4. And these days, it's not REALLY Christmas until my daughter gets home. :sohappy:

Second that one, but I'm that daughter going home. It's totally not Christmas feeling until I'm back in CT with the extra cold weather, the smell of snow, and the New England Christmas touch!!!
