Lagoon show at Islands of Adventure featuring a seventh "island"

Word has been buzzing around for a while now concerning the prospects of a new lagoon show coming to Islands of Adventure. In past columns we’ve talked about reports of fireworks tests after park hours and several times guests have seen “markers” throughout the lagoon that are generally used by Universal Creative when planning where show elements will end up (similar markers were used in Universal Studios Florida before Cinematic Spectacular was built.) This would not be the first time IOA had a lagoon show, but it has been well over a decade since the park had a nighttime extravaganza using its spectacular lagoon setting.
While nothing is concrete, an idea that has been running around is that a seventh island would rise out of the lagoon (the other islands being Marvel Super Hero Island, Jurassic Park, Toon Lagoon, Seuss Landing, the Lost Continent and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter) and wreck havoc. Word going around is that Universal Creative wants to avoid using the water screens in order to differentiate the show from Cinematic Spectacular. Whether it’s a brand new story, or one that incorporates elements from the current six islands at IOA, a nighttime show is an event that will help draw people back over to the park once USF has opened Transformers: the Ride 3D, The Simpsons expansion, and Harry Potter phase 2.

Isn't "Port of Entry" counted as an island? If so, isn't there already seven?

it's coming.

Is this the likely plan? (the idea of an eighth island appearing in the lagoon and non-water screen based)

I don't think the idea of all the islands joining together would happen - I doubt J.K Rowling would allow Harry Potter to team up with Spiderman...

it's coming.

If it's here by the end of 2014, we're possibly going to have to rethink our night time plans at Universal...

At the moment, the plan seems to be...

DAY 1: Universal Cinematic Spectacular/CityWalk (staying at Hard Rock over night)
DAY 2: Blue Man Group (9pm) (before driving back to WDW)

...Maybe we'll have to take in the 6pm show for Blue Man Group and then do one of the park shows afterwards?

Is there ample viewing area around the lagoon for this? While design wise the park is similar to World Showcase at Epcot, many of the walkways do not get very close to the water, and in fact, in some parts of the park there is no view of the lagoon from a majority of the island you are on.

Upper management has been incredibly pleased with the increased F&B and merchandise sales from Cinematic Spectacular. The increase in sales far offsets the nightly cost of the show (which was the goal). Now the goal is to duplicate that over at IOA.

As far as storyline, theme, etc I don't have any to share as of right now. Maybe someone else does.

The lagoon was built with TONS of viewing from around it. Every Island has a viewing area!

Seuss Landing has viewing at Sneetch Beach
Lost Continent has viewing behind Mythos
WWOHP has viewing behind 3 Broom Sticks
Jurassic Park has viewing in front of the Discovery Center
Toon Lagoon has viewing behind Popey's
Marvel Super Hero Island has viewing behind Captain America's Diner
Port of Entry has viewing at the end of the road.

There are viewing areas in Marvel, Lost Continent, and Port of Entry. Also, there are a decent amount of viewing areas in Toon Lagoon behind Popeye.

In every single island you can be right on the water's edge. This isn't really a problem.

Beat me to it! I get some great photos at IOA!
