Is the Yeti all that bad?

OK...deep cleansing breaths now that you have the topic opened!

I was thinking today about wishing I was at the world and specifically attractions I would like to ride and EE came to mind which got me to thinking. I have to admit that disco Yeti really does not bother me. It seems like a minuscule detail of an otherwise very fun ride IMO. Now, other than the fact that the inoperative Yeti is a crown jewel glowing (or strobing) example of TDO's lack of commitment to the parks and more importantly the park goers experience within the parks do you feel it really ruins the ride for you?

Try and take your emotion for what the Yeti has come to stand for among us fanbois out of the equation and think of it as just a ride element and throw in your two cents.

I for one love the ride and I think that the Yeti is seen so quickly and for such a short period of time that I do not know if I could truly absorb the full mode Yeti anyway. Now I also have to come clean that I NEVER EVER saw him in his full and intended glory which is why I really wonder if it is just an icon for mediocrity or something really lacking in the ride.

That says it all. I saw the yeti in its glory back in 2006. Nothing else like it. While the disco yeti is ok (be thankful there IS an animatronic and not just sounds) and gets the job done, nothing compares to the original plan.

I've never seen the "working" Yeti, I really thought I saw it move. But, it was later determined, that was "Disco Yeti." It still doesn't bother me, it's just a little annoying.

Of all of those that I personally know who saw the Yeti in full A mode, none of them think that its current static state is just fine, acceptable, or anything less than bad show. It is the equivalent of going around the high speed loop on TT at 15 mph.
This.
It is a big deal, both for the loss of a truly impressive figure and fitting climax to the ride, and as a testament to management's disregard for show quality.

Agreed with posts 26 and 27. Leading up to the grand opening of Expedition: Everest, the Yeti was heralded as the Walt Disney Company's greatest achievement in audio animatronics - a ten foot tall beast with fully articulated features who comes at your train and takes a swipe, and so now that his presence is a shadow of what it was intended to be the other features of the ride are, to me, beside the point.

I was blessed to ride during soft opening - before even the ride cameras were installed - and the yeti was impressive.

Is the Yeti all that bad? Yes.

I saw the yeti in soft openings and in its early days. It's a very big deal. As in many things, ignorance is bliss. Personally, I can't arrive back at unload laughing and excited the way others are. I always arrive at unload ed. Its pretty much to the point that if I was standing in front of the entrance its a toss up if I'd bother to follow my teenagers in. Am I the minority? Yep. And TDO banks on this. Eventually people who experienced the fabled A-mode yeti will all but not exist. I'm sure that day can't come fast enough for TDO. That in itself is a whole other level of pathetic.

I would absolutely love to know what Papa Joe really thinks of the state of things at DAK. I'd want the unfiltered version, of course.

I don't recall if I ever saw him move all the way (I think I
did). Either way, I do still love the ride (it's my family's favorite ride in all the parks, and we usually do it about 4+ times).
I do think it's sad, but the ride imo is good enough that it still stands up on its own.

I have been lucky enough to experience the Yeti in all his glory, and I do feel a little sad every time I ride it and see disco Yeti. It is still an amazing ride and I will still go on it at least once every single time I visit, but it would be really nice to have the Yeti restored to his former (if rather brief) glory.

Someone mentioned a "C" mode so I was curious. I didn't know if there was more to Disco Yeti as "B". Thanks for the reply.
The fans blowing on his fur might be part of B mode and C mode might simply have him illuminated with a steady light, but I am just guessing at this point.

I have heard the term"C" mode so I just assumed it existed and referenced it. I am only aware of Disco Yeti.

Also, I know it is difficult if not impossible to remove the iconic value of the Yeti as it pertains to mediocrity throughout the parks but my intent was just to see if you are able to take out the emotion part of it is it really that bad? I for one would love to see "A" mode sometime in my lifetime and yes, I do feel cheated having not seen it but I still think it is a great ride and we rode it 8 times last trip so I guess I am part of the problem.

To those who enter the park but do not ride the ride...does that even make a dent in their computations? If you paid to get into the park then they got their pound of flesh out of you so I am not entirely sure that is anything more than the mouse shouting at the mountain to move. To have any effect at all I think park attendance would have to drop significantly and DVC units would need to remain unsold...at that point they may prick up their ears but until that happens I think other forms of silent protest are futile. Just my thoughts anyway...;)

Eventually it can. Every attraction costs a certain amount to run and maintain. Since an attraction does not really make any money, each rider carries a certain dollar value. If an attraction's ridership drops below a certain point the attraction is operating at a loss in the eyes of management. If that happens they will typically act by revamping, plussing, or replacing the attraction. For examples of this you need to look no further than Horizons and World of Motion. They are no longer there because not enough guests were riding them.

The rub with E:E is that because it is a coaster, its ridership is never likely to drop to a point where it is operating in the red. Hence, it is quite unlikely that it will ever be fixed.

We first rode EE back in '07 when the Yeti was at his full potential. He was pretty darn amazing, actually, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed with his present, degraded state. After all, no matter how you slice it, he was an integral part of the theming from the get-go. In everything from the queue, to the torn up dead end track, to the shadow Yeti, etc. That being said, the ride isn't ruined for me, but it doesn't make it any less of yet another, all-too-common-these-days, TDO letdown.
These days, I'm more impressed with the Matterhorn Yeti. ;)
