Is 6 days too much for Universal?

We'll be visiting Universal next August and we'll be at the Hard Rock for 6 days.

Will we have too much time on our hands with 6 days to visit Universal - or should I plan a side adventure to Sea World or WDW too?

Plan a side trip!!!

Unless they eliminate front of the line privileges for resort guests...then it will take 4 days, max, with repeat rides on your favorites, and pool time, etc during the day.

The two parks, and resorts, are so close together that you don't have to factor in travel time as much as at WDW.

However, I don't know your touring style. If you sleep in, tend to linger over meals, spend a lot of time at the pool, do a lot of shopping, etc I suppose you could fill 6 days.

If you go to Sea World and Wet n' Wild (owned by Universal), any spare time you have on your trip will probably be filled up.

Does anyone know if the Universal resorts allow pool hopping? If so, you might want to spend some time at the Portofino...their "busy" pool is quite nice. They also have some lovely formal gardens, and a nice waterfront restaurant (although we weren't that impressed with the food...a little pricey for what you got) I haven't seen the "newest" hotel yet; it might also be worth a tour. And there are tons of restaurants and shops at Citywalk. You should probably plan on an "off" day and spend it looking at all of the extras.

If you haven't been to Sea World, it's definitely worth the trip. I'm not much on water parks, so would skip Wet n' Wild.

Thanks! You've confirmed what I initially thought - Sea World for a day it is!

Side question - have you ever stayed/visited Hard Rock? How are the pools? (Or is it pool?) Is it just your typical pool - or are their slides and stuff for the kids? (And me!)

I'm afraid I never stayed there; just walked by it. ;)

If your children are young, you've got to walk to Portofino (there's a walkway under the bridge) and feed the gazillion ducks in the "harbor" there. I think they have those food dispensers, but I'm not sure. (My son thinks we feed them leftover bread from lunch) Then you can take the launch back to your hotel, or all the way to citywalk.

Also, if they do allow hopping, the walkway to the "good" pool is on your side of the resort.

Thanks for the tips - especially the duck feeding. My girls got such a kick out of feeding the birds at WDW ... spend a bazillion dollars on a vacation and they have the most fun tossing popcorn at seagulls. Go figure!

I'm confused though ... the "good" pool? Do you mean by that that the "good pool" is at a different resort?

Or maybe I just haven't had enough coffee this morning to comprehend your post. :brick: :hammer:

I meant the pool at the Portofino that has slides, waterfalls, etc. rather than the quiet pool. I was looking at things from a kids' eye view.

Some might consider the active pools to be hell on earth.

Having just stayed at the Hard Rock last week, I can tell you that the pool there is one of the best in Florida. Between the LONG water slide, the underwater speakers, the cabannas, and the lush landscaping, this is one pool that you should not miss!

The Hard Rock as a whole is probably the best resort in Florida now (only rivaled by the Portofino). The rooms are much larger than that of Disney's deluxe resorts, and the service, amenities, and restuarants are all just as good as Disney's resorts used to be.

Finally, Universal does allow pool hopping. At least, they currently do anyway.

Make some plans for the other days - US can be done in less than a day, IOA will probably take two visits to do everything. That leaves 3 days - suggest SW and WDW

Universal

I've been to WDW 23 times in the last 10 years and have never been off the property--yes never even rented a car to see what else is there. Fla. means only Disney. Boring-----I don't think so!!!

You could probably experience all of Universal Orlando in 3 days; including City Walk. It's not as big as WDW! so there's not much to do.:hammer:

Depending on how crowded it is, you could get both Universal parks done in 2 days. I would definitely plan a side trip to 2 or 3 Disney parks. You just can't pass that opportunity up since you'll already be in Orlando. 6 days is way too much for Universal. You'd be making a big mistake if you didn't go to Disney.

How much of a roller coaster fan are you? On my trip in May, I went to both parks in one day and saw everything (almost) that I wanted to see. But then I'm not much of a coaster fan. There were a couple of shows I missed that I would have liked to see, but as far as the rides go, I saw all of the ones I wanted to.

You should probably be able to do both parks in three days easily, four tops, and do just about eveything.

I would add the side trip.

If you plan to be going and doing rather than sitting around the pool for most of the time, I would definitely make plans to do other things while you are there. Unless the parks are unreasonably crowded, you should be able to do everything in both of them at least once in less than two complete days.

While it might be a bit rushed, I think both parks as well as Wet n' Wild and Citywalk could probably be done in two complete days and evenings. If you take things slow, it could be stretched to possibly three days but I think you'll find it a bit hard to keep doing new stuff on property much after that.

Even if you don't want to go to WDW, there are still plenty of other things to do in the area. I would highly recommend you going to your local AAA office if you are a member and getting a free book on the area. :)

I agree, even at a snails pace, 3 days is max for all things Universal, another day if you do Wet n' Wild I guess. Do SeaWorld. If you don't want to be overwhelmed by Disney in a day or two, try the Titantic Experience (pretty neat) or even use one day to just relax at your hotel and visit the other hotels. With that many days you can have a very relaxing vacation at Universal if you want to... never know, Hard Rock may have a good performer to catch during your stay also.

I agree that you should opt to take at least 2-3 days, seeing some other attractions or doing something else.

Even though US and IOA would be more crowded in August, you should be able to see them both in 3 days, depending on your pace.

We'll actually be back in WDW three months after that and I was hoping to do all the stuff on this trip in Aug. - like Sea World and stuff - that we would probably never do while visiting WDW ... cuz Disney is just so HUGE!

So it's a good thing that 6 days is too much for Universal - it'll give us the opportunity to do other things in Orlando.
