I've thought of selling our old iPhone 4's but I think the 2 teenage sons would like to have them. Problem is, my home button isn't the most reliable. I wonder if it's worth it to have that fixed... hhmmmm....

Wow! Thats a lot of phones! I'm really excited about ours. Going to put the speed to the test in the scary-early hours of Saturday the 22nd anxiously watching marinetraffic.com for the Disney Magic approach the coast of Texas. Gonna be sitting at Denny's waiting to race over to the port to greet her! Woot!

I thought about trading my 4s in and getting it at trade in price. Then I remembered the 4 came out then a much better 4s. Talk to the store about the button. I had a first gen iTouch (wait let me say broTouch since so many hate it) with a bad home button out of warranty. They ended up just giving me a new one at an EXTREMELY discounted rate.

Good for the five shares of stock my grandfather bought all his grandkids YEARS ago! I am waiting for the split.

Ordered two Black 64GB... Now I just have to figure out whether Rogers will let one or both be considered upgrades...
Further to this, my upgrade cost will be $429/ea.

Another $50/ea to unlock the 2 iPhone 4 and sell them to recoup a good chunk of the upgrade costs.

The home button on my first iPhone 4 stopped working completely within 7 months of having it. Because I was in the manufacturer's 1 year warranty I was sent to the closest Apple store and given a new one on the spot. The home button issue started with this phone at about 13 months. I'm still riding the unlimited data so I use my iPhone for browsing almost as much as I do my Mac. I wanted to get the 4s when it came out but hubby wanted me to wait until the 5 which I really have eeked out with the home button issue. Definitely going to look into having that button fixed to pass the phone onto the teenagers.

We still have our 80g 5th gen ipod video. It lives in the console of the hubby's Tahoe hooked up to the truck. With the exception of music downloads from the past year or so, he's got our entire music & audio book library on that. We also have a bunch of Disney movies we ripped years ago. Easily a dozen or so of them on there. LOL! It's like the workhorse that just won't quit! Had that thing for..geez..5+ years now?

I have way too many expensive products around the house that only fit an iPhone 4/4s. There's no way I'm changing over to a 5 and rendering all of my electronics obsolete.

I just switched to 4S a month ago and plan to keep that one as long as possible.

Try trading it in if it is in good condition and you think they wouldn't notice the home button issue to get the discount and keep unlimited.

In one of my cars I have a first gen nano for my nav unit and the other is a 3rd gen nano. Best slave device to use exclusively for it!

I was wondering when I would hear something about that. I agree. My two Bose sound docks will be lost.

There is an adaptor if you need to use the old 30 pin connector.

I can't imagine that's gonna work out very well with docks and the like, though. o_O It'll be helpful for car chargers and such.

The connector change doesn't affect me much at all. My parents don't want to switch from their 4 and 4S cuz of it and I think that's ridiculous. :p I don't use docks (AirPlay through Apple TV for my home theater, and this darn Otterbox case doesn't fit into my alarm clock dock so I had to get an adapter cable for it) and I have a 160GB iPod Classic in my car. I can only think of needing two or three Lighting to USB cables for chargers (which will get super cheap once those third-party ones show up) and I'll be set. *shrug*

I'll sell my current 16GB black 4 on eBay. They're still going for $250+, which covers the cost of the upgrade. It sucks, though, cuz I sold @Laura's similar 4 a few weeks ago for $322!

I ordered the 64 g in black. Later I noticed it said white on the receipt. So the color will be a surprise. New iPhone, that's all I care about.

honestly, not enough of a difference from a 4...

if you don't have an iphone then have it, but to spend the money just to have the 5 is a bit of a stretch IMHO

but processing speeds are kind of a moot point... since a vast majority of its performance is network dependent

For browsing... But these devices are used for far more things now.

You can run a browser on an atom chip... Doesn't make an i7 redundant in a computer

from my perspective, at least how I use the phone... most of the apps I use are network dependent

And unless they are apps that are downloading images... You're likely exchanging simple text to get your information (XML or rest) so the network bw really isn't a huge factor but more latency and response times. Throughput isn't that critical unless you are moving media...

You would be surprised how much of a difference CPU makes on web browsing. I reently tested an iPad1 vs iPad 2 vs iPad3 opening the WDWMAGIC homepage. All were done on the same wifi network. The iPad 3 took about 5 seconds to fully render the page, the iPad 1 took 22 seconds. Again, all using the same WiFi network, with the same network performance. The only difference was the hardware. Websites these days use so much javascript and complex HTML, that a big bottleneck is indeed the processor. I am expecting iPhone 5 to provide significantly better browsing experience than the 4.
