Please good people, help me think this through. Currently we are booked for the end of October staying at POP. Just received an e-mail from WDW offering to upgrade us to Coronado Springs for $33.00/night. My dilemna is that we are a party of 4, 3 adults and a toddler (almost 3 at time of trip). Is Coronado "Disney" enough for a little guy? I'm sure his parents will like either one but I'm all about spoiling the babies so not sure switching is the right choice for him. Thoughts? Thanks!

I'd be shocked if a 3-year-old had strong opinions about decor. Coronado Springs isn't as "loud" as the values, but it's attractive and colorful, particularly on the exteriors of the buildings. (The room interiors are more muted.)

I also know that the feature pool at Coronado Springs (a Mayan ruin with a slide - playground is nearby) is amazing, and any child's dream, and the resort has the same kinds of activities for kids (games around the pool, movies under the stars) as the others... for $33/night, I'd say the upgrade is well worth it, especially for the extra space/sinks/privacy you'll all enjoy as a result of switching to a moderate -- particularly valuable if you're all staying in the same room.

I have stayed at both resorts, and I actually enjoyed Pop Century better. I think your toddler would thrill to the architecture around Pop Century more; there's a giant Mickey Mouse phone and other large characters and icons. Weather_Lady had some important points about better amenities at Coronado Springs, so I'm not sure I'm the one who's "right". Pop Century does not have a full service restaurant, but the one at Coronado Springs is more for a mature crowd. My tastes were too fussy to pick anything off the menu. I enjoyed the food at Pop Century too much--I gained weight. They have pizza and a dessert that's tie-dyed. I think it was cheesecake; I forget. Fun to eat a rainbow colored piece of cake, though.

I like Coronado, one of my favorite resorts. I've never stayed at a value and my wife's stories kind of makes me afraid to (just told it's loud, and bus service horrible).

Coranado just has a weird food court. We made sure to eat at the parks. One morning we ordered breakfast to go and I think it took us 30 minutes or so.

I also agree, I'm not so sure how much a 3 year will care or remembee about the resort. Coronado does have a very nice pool too!

Thank you all for your responses. GVentola, you've actually hit on my concern exactly! I have photos of him at the many POP statues from just before his first birthday and he still loves looking at them. But WeatherLady makes an excellent point about better amenities. This certainly isn't a bad dilemna to have!

Kids do not really care about the decor of the hotel. Especially since all of WDW is amazing to them. I never once considered if my 3 year old is going to like the decor of the hotel or not. It is Disney World after all. And all they ever want to do is swim anyway. If it is a good price then I would definitely upgrade to CS from POP.

I was hoping that they would. I think the other moderates have double sinks and always wondered why not at Coronado.

Truthfully, we did not care for Coronado Springs... It is considered one of Disney's "business trip" hotels and it shows. The decor is more subdued and the theme is less kid-friendly. There was also a formality there not felt at other Disney resorts -- a "stiffness" I couldn't quite put my finger on... We didn't hate it or anything, but it was not our favorite. Admittedly, the pool is stunning, but most Disney pools are. IMHO, I think I would stay at POP. :)

Personally, I'd upgrade in a heartbeat. We've stayed at both, and CSR is our favorite moderate - it's a conference resort, so it has more "deluxe style" amenities than other mods, and we didn't mind the size (especially compared to POP). The pool is excellent, and while you have to deal with multiple bus stops, it's still a better bus experience than most values. POP is the best of the values IMO, but for only $33 more per night I'd upgrade if only to get away from having to share double beds...

Unless you are all incredibly petite, and never spend time at the resort, I'd do the upgrade. Coronado, you get two queen beds in a room. Pop rooms have two double beds. The Coronado rooms aren't huge at 314 sq. ft, but the Pop rooms are much smaller at 260 sq ft. There are more dining options if you need them, including table service options versus the food court and the pool bar at Pop. Coronado is the only moderate with a gym (if you need one). Sure it doesn't have the oversized iconic statues that Pop has. But I'd do the switch in a heartbeat.

The pool and play area are very nice and I think your little one would really like it! And the extra space is nice for everyone as well! Have a magical trip and Yeah - What a great offer!

At CSR you will get a sliding divider between the vanity and the beds. A great thing to have when putting the little one to sleep and in the mornings. They can sleep while you get ready. We also liked the ceiling fan. My kids, who are older than yours, loved CSR's pool area. And while it isn't a lot of extra space, it does make a difference.

If the $33 per night isn't going to have a large effect on your pocket book, then go for it.

With three adults and a toddler I would absolutely upgrade. I like Pop and it's one of my favorite resorts but I only stay there with my wife and we are both relatively small (5'4") so sharing a double bed is fine. We enjoyed the more elegant feel of Coronado and I don't think your kid will really notice. Coronado might also have my favorite food court (but we never get breakfast at food courts so I can't speak for the lines then). We had some empanadas one day and nachos another day when we stayed there that totally beat Pop's offerings.

All that said, if you can think of a better use for that $33 times however many nights you're staying, and you don't mind the double bed situation...then you'll still love Pop!
