Interesting fact I heard from a CM today at Magic Kingdom

This is probably why Pirates had one staff member working it. Short staffing makes money.

Woah, woah, woah. Not so fast, @Pooh.sHoneyHuntTDL. You don't get to go off on Disney management without accounting for your previous misplaced rant...

They are removing anyone who actually cared about the parks or the loyal customer base as it is counter to the current regimes cash grab policies like DAH.
I'm here right now at the Magic Kingdom and Roy's statue is back at The Hub area..

So, @Pooh.sHoneyHuntTDL , care to issue a retraction or apology?

You sure you want to throw around baseless accusations and look the fool again?

And we're still waiting for your retraction and apology.

So in each land their is a proprietor that is sort of like the head manager of that specific land. I was walking alone and a CM started chatting with me and I expressed I was planning to work in the parks once I finish college.

She started to explain to me that Disney is really pressuring the managers to find new ways to make money. Even going to far as to threaten them if they don’t make new ideas.

It was the proprietor of Adventureland who thought of the idea of the Tiana riverboat cruise and got a nice bonus for thinking of it and got to keep her job.

What are your guys opinions of Disney pressuring employees to find new money making schemes?
So did she really say pressuring with there job? I would go to, the police with that. Its not there job, for that. That is corporate. Just a mis use of power,

There is no difference between this and any other business. The local manager of bank/CU branch that you use is responsible for new account activations and they are required to get X number of new accounts every month, if they don't they are on notice. Your local retail store manager is responsible for business growth and margin. The GM at your local dealership is responsible to make sure they sell X number of cars every month. Why would not make sense that Disney did the same with their managers? I'm sure the cast member had about 1/2 the information correct in that the manager is responsible for growth and this can come from having new and innovative ideas but can also come from everyday ideas that generate money for their "land". Maybe this comes from a new Tiana ride, maybe it comes from a new "lean" processes, or maybe it comes from placing a pop/popcorn cart at the entrance to their area. Its really anything that helps their business grow. If park attendance is up 15% but revenue from your land is down 10% then you better think of something big or you maybe promoted to customer. Business 101!

Not to completely distrust the OP here, but I think this is completely false. That's not the way the leadership in the parks is really organized and while I'm sure there is pressure on leaders to come up with new ideas I don't think it's for new attractions or anything that crazy. It's more the kind of 'new ideas' that would actually fall into their job descriptions like finding new ways to engage cast members and create memorable experiences for guests that fall within their control (like years ago custodial cast members came up with the idea to use resources they already had ie: pans and brooms to make water art and interact with guests)..

I’m horrified, and yet fascinated, to think a front line CM feels this type of conversation is professional and appropriate to have with a paying customer they just met while on the clock.

Are there no standards of professionalism and basic courtesy any more???

She was standing by the Fast Pass + station and it was around 4pm so she obviously wasn’t doing much and was desperate for someone to spark a conversation with. I was wearing a UCF shirt so she saw that I was alone and her age so might as well start talking to me. Once I expressed I am majoring in theme park management she started opening up to me on some of the background drama. Funnily enough she took off her name tag for a quick second to swear and then put it back on.

I never said it was they were forced to think of new attractions. The example the cast member gave me was the Tiana Riverboat cruise which is an optional paid meet and greet experience. Things like that are what Disney is wanting their management staff to think off. Not big rides and shows.
