Improving Tiki Birds

Since the Imagineering forum does not seem to get much attention, I am bringing this up here.

I enjoy the Enchanted Tiki Birds. But it seems that this is one of the less popular attractions in the Magic Kingdom. I think it is one of the very few rides left that still have the original Disney feel and a certain innocence about it. I am worried that they will eventualy decide to replace it with a stage show or another ride.

So, two questions - a) What makes the Tiki Birds so different from the other rides and atractions, and b) What could be done to make it more popular, while still retaining that feel?

My own idea is that I would fix it up a bit by bringing back the raining windows effects and maybe adding more decoative stuff like more flowers and birds and such (not necessarily animatronics, but more "filler"). I would also try and rewrite the story line so that it develops the characters a little more - could be a better comedy routine, perhaps? I might even do more with the preshow area, more banter between animatronics and stuff while you are waiting there.

I think that with the proper attention to the main characters,
i could even see a Tiki store.

Make me stop! This started sounding scarey!

Tiki Room

 Im sorry but when I read this, I just had to sit back and laugh because apparently you have been under a rock lol. The tiki room changed completely about a year ago and they turned the attraction into being under new management by the birds from Aladdin and the Lion King. Growing up, I would have def agreed with you because I hated it and my parents would make me go so they could enjoy it. Recently when I went, I gave it a shot and loved it. There are new songs in a club atmosphere lighting and I belive the rain windows come back for a split second at the beginning. There is sort of a plot line but im not gonna spoil it. I am assuming that you have not been to the Magic Kingdom lately and just found your post very funny. Def go check out the new Tiki Room when you get a chance! Peace!

The first way to do this is bring back the original. Under New Management is an awful replacement. I still see it occasionally for the Phil Hartman nostalgia, but I think another poster here summed it up well... "rap in adventureland?!"

The good news would be that Disneyland Resort's version is still unaltered with no plans to change.

More than that, I think. Phil Hartman (voice of one of the agents in the preshow) died in 1998. Allowing a year for development it had couldn't have been later than mid 99.

It's been at least 3.

Ok, I'll put this one to rest. It's been almost six years, the Tiki Room has been "under new management" since Spring '98. Like the cheesy pun? I still have the guidemaps from it's first summer.

This Enchanted Tiki Birds took place in a vine-covered Polynesian hut from Ocober 1, 1971 - September 2, 1997, when it was replaced by The Enchanted Tiki Birds - Under New Management.

I was at Tiki birds a few months ago. When they did the Alladin thing, all they really did was tack on a new ending. All I can think of is one new song - and that was stolen from a movie! And, no I never saw the rain windows the last few times I have been on it. Then again, I swear that every time I go in there it gets shorter and shorter - maybe I am unlucky and they are cutting the show short?

In any case, it still does not seem to have much of a following. I believe that the original concept was or a Tiki restaurnt - that would be interesting...

I never miss ETR-UNM, I really like it. I'm in the minority on this one I know, but I enjoy it. If you notice in my sig. I've got some "guy rules." I have one about the tiki room:

1. Some might mourn the original Enchanted Tiki Room but the original show was BORING!

I do miss it though because it was one of Walt's, know what I mean. Seems like they're getting rid, or changing, alot of his attractions, i.e., the new PC PotC in Disneyland. Even so, I like Iago and Zazu. Now, feel free to bash my opinion.

I much prefer the New Improved Tiki Birds.

It's a lot more upbeat than the original version and as someone said it has more dialog so don't just sit there and watch birds twitch while music it played...you have to pay attention an listen to what they are saying in order to follow the plot.

While I did enjoy the orginal version, it almost put me to sleep.

I like the end of the new version where they actually TALK to the audience..scares the living daylights out of them.

"Get on your feet" :zipit:

Unfortunately the New version has shortened hours and that is like a death sentance for a show. If people can't go on it when they go by it and have to wait for a certain time for it to open they just don't go back or they think it's closed.

Wow.

Anyway.

Can't stand the new Tiki Room. Rap Music AND Iago? PLEASE.

I agree.
Boy I miss the Original. It never bored me. I loved singing along with all of the songs! The new show is obnoxious and annoying. I rarely see it. I can't wait to visit DL and see the original again!

As a child, my father would threaten my sister and me with the Tiki Room if we misbehaved. No I find it to be a nice air conditioned nap room, like the hall of Presidents.

No rehab could bring it up to the standards of today. It was a showcase for the dawn of animatronics. If anything, it's a museum to me.

Good points. The CBJ needs an update too. Perhaps rappin' bears would work?

1. Attendance denies the need for an update.
2. So does show quality since 1971, but that could use TECHNOLOGICAL updates.
3. You are doing this just to annoy me, aren't you?? :animwink:

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
The only thing wrong with the Tiki Room is its visitors. Those over protective parents who indulge their little precious’ess, the result of which is they either shriek with terror at the first hint of dimmed lighting or run around as if their ______ is on fire. Parents, get a grip!!!

I think this is funny!!

I have the Walt Disney World Theme park CD and it has the Bear Band Serenade on it.

The Bear doesn't sing during the entire song...it's more of a Hillbilly RAP!

"And lil ole Tennesee Bear is a featured on the THANG...
....Sounds just like a GiT-tar but it's only got one STRANG"

Country Bears, when I went last year, was really an embarrassment. I mean, I actually felt like Disney should not have allowed anyone in the attraction in it's miserable condition. I'm not commenting on the show itself, but the beyond miserable audio. It sounds like they are playing the tracks off of a reel-to-reel and through tin can speakers. It was really pathetic. When it started, everyone in my family looked at one another with a "how long is this again?" sort of frown.
