And it shouldn't be that way. Everything needs to be focused on, not just major things.

As long as the pirates aren't attacking the tourists on POTC, if the wench bidding scene AAs are frozen and don't move, you won't see any immediate urgency to repair it. LOL;)

Took AP economics the year before last (5s on both). Has been a while, but that said, my economics aren't that far off. Competition drives prices down, naturally. Fantasyland expansion did happen, but prices have been rising (and will continue to rise) regardless. Hours have also been cut. And yes, inflation is a thing, but Disney increases prices way, way faster than inflation. Inflation is, and has been, very low.
They were still off. I graphed it (because I'm a nerd. Also, I have nothing better to do;) ). Their marginal cost curve shifted left driving up prices while the increase in demand also drove up prices. Therefore, it makes sense. Look up the graph if you need a refresher. Also, no bragging, I don't get scores until Monday and it's driving me crazy, (though I better have gotten a 5 on micro cause I just about killed that test). ;) Also because my friends already got their scores during the early access period yesterday and since I was in Hawaii, I have to wait. Hate college board.

Not a sustainable model.

Hardcore fans will draw the line eventually. The OP has, others have, and others will continue to do so until things change. But the clincher? Hardcore fans are Disney's free marketers. If I'm impressed by New Fantasyland, I won't hesitate to rave about it. Likewise, if Disney fed termites a whole parade, I'll complain.

So when the hardcore fans give up on WDW, they'll tell their friends about how great Universal is now, or how much better Disneyland is. It's a long term thing, but its effects will be felt eventually. And once TDO realizes what hit them, it's going to be a long, long recovery.

I'm a hardcore fan. And I tell people to go there. Whereas I don't do Universal (not into Harry Potter or really anything in Universal). I was impressed by New Fantasyland. I just went to DL and loved it, but so many things over there drove me crazy as well. I would tell certain people to go to DL (for example, people who just want to take their kids to MK). But I'm not going to tell my friends not to go to WDW since I'm still happy with it, as are many hard core fans.

But what's the point if it's not down long enough?

It was restored quite nicely on the Youtube video. It needed it, it got it. It's a big attraction; they don't want it down too long. I can't complain too much since I hated the DL version of Splash.

And that's honestly sad. I'm not used that at all. I also hope this isn't the condition Pirates is in over there.

You don't want to ride Pirates over in WDW. You'll be so unimpressed. I have yet to recover after the DL version. It looks great, but I think someone on here once referred to it as PofC lite.

And no, it's in rather good condition, except for the fact you occasionally get wet by cannonball fire.

It's a big attraction, so it should be down that long. Again, what would be the point? Thunder at Disneyland has been closed since January. It's not opening back up until October, another three months. Space Mountain was closed for two years. Two YEARS. Indy was also down for months last year. Matterhorn was down for six months. It shouldn't be a huge problem to shut down a ride for the time needed. I just don't get these excuses.

Even if I'm unimpressed, I'm still taking a ride.

I agree. I was there when Indy, Casey Jr. And Small world (three attractions that are in my top ten) were all down at the same time. Did I complain? No. I thought it was great that they were getting downtime for repairs. Small world was getting it's holiday overlay though.

Yeah, but that version needed a new track so badly. :p

My favorite thing with Disneyland isn't refurb lengths. It's that there have been stretches of time when Pirates, Space Mountain, and Haunted Mansion (or some similar combination of three major E-Tickets) are down for refurbishment at the same time. It sucks if you're there, but just think about how those will all re-open...

Because there are more rides in DL that take the crowds while the others are down. It didn't bother me at all that it was closed since there's other things to do. Space closed because the track needed to be replaced. It wasn't safe.

We do have rides that go down for that long. Space Mountain in WDW went down in 2009 for most of the year (good thing, every time I walked in that thing was broken. Not to mention dated). Test Track went down for 8 months. Star Tours went down for 8 months. Splash went down for the time that it needed. When it reopened, the report was that all the effects were working. Big Thunder went down for five months last year. Dumbo went down for months so they could move it. Plus we recently had Toontown redone as Storybook Circus and Barnstormer got an 11 month refurb. It does happen.

Have you been on Mk's space? That version needs new track BADLY!

Some people like the bumpy track. It hurts my back (I brace on it) but so did Matterhorn (I was so hurt coming off that one). I used to love the bumpy track before my car accident. Would ride in the back just to get the bumps. That's why people love wooden roller coasters.

Don't get me wrong. I love the roughness and how bumpy it is, it just makes me feel unsafe. It feels like it can derail at anytime.

What's funny is DL gets complaints about rides being down, but the complaints don't stop them from shutting rides down for refurbs.

They inspect it every day. No derailing. That's what guide wheels are for. :) Roller Coasters derailing are so rare. Except for when BTM in DL derailed and I still have nightmares from just hearing about that story. They have all kinds of sensors and break sections that if something happened, you would stop at the breaks. Next time you ride it watch the track for all the breaking sections there are.
