Iger mentions plans for EPCOT

The only way that adding Eddie Murphy to the Haunted Mansion could have worked is if it were Shrek and Donkey Explore the Haunted Mansion. I'd ride the heck out of that!

The future is happening too fast. There is no staying in front of it anymore.

Time to reimagine future world into something else. How about E-Ticket Land.

Is there an iteration or a rundown of this new Norway overlay somewhere that i can see it? I was literally just in the park yesterday and it's still under construction, so I'm not sure where everyone is getting the synopsis of the ride.

CMs working in the pavilion were mentioning Frozen related things to customers and seemed generally on board with it, though one decided to tell my gf and I some "dark jokes" (we were fine with it, totally broke character for Disney I suppose but we enjoy that humor), so take all of that for what its worth.

While on the topic of Norway, the entire space between Mexico and Norway is walled off. Is that to keep equipment out of view? Or are they building something there as well? The ride pavilion has scaffolding up fairly high, higher than I remember the Maelstrom building being before they shuttered it. Could just be a re-theming of the face of the building I suppose

Appreciate the quick response. I've only checked here intermittently over the past year or so and usually only check and contribute to the super busy threads, as they typically stay bumped on the front page

I posted this in a couple other threads a bit ago, but Disney...please run with this idea! :^D

I was at Epcot a few months ago. I couldn't get out of there faster. It is certainly a half day park. As a kid, going to EPCOT in the '80s...the park was a little more fun (mostly due to Figment, and 'space ship things'), but even then to a kid it was certainly a step down from the Magic Kingdom.

Epcot to me has always been more of an adult geared park, more or less. Though I personally don't like the World Showcase at all, it seems to be the real draw for adults & guests. So why not redevelop the Future World areas to work more with the World Showcase?

I think they should create an entire mythos and backstory regarding Epcot. Tie the story to technology of the past and of the future. And specifically tie it into the Disney S.E.A. (Society of Explorers and Adventurers). They could re-design many rides to fit more with this.

Redesign the Figment ride to harken back to the original ride, complete with Dreamfinder (and tie him in to the S.E.A). Make it have more of a steam punk feel with shades of the Figment comic.

Spaceship Earth, add in slight bits into it to tie to Disney S.E.A.

For a restaurant, create a new Adventurer's Club. They could make an interactive / treasure hunt game similar to Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom.

And this the ties to Disney S.E.A. don't have to be so obvious. Just slight nods here an there in rides. This can allow for cartoon, movie based attractions as well like Nemo. And certainly it should NOT be a S.E.A. mythos that is only trapped in the past, but also current...involved with designing cars for Test Track, up to date technology advancements, medicine treatments, etc.

Heck,a Tron area could work too.

They need to make Epcot feel like an experimental/high tech/old tech community (private club) that spans the generations of man. Then it can easily "feed" into the World Showcase where you become the explorer of the various regions & countries of our Earth.

That's fine and dandy if Epcot was just about displaying the future. It was much more then that. It was celebrating the achievements of man and how together we all will build a better future. To inspire children and grown ups alike that the future is what we make it. Of course you won't be able to grasp the concept so you will continue to live under this false idea that Iger has had some beautiful master idea for the parks with the pendulum effect now moving towards WDW.

Little late to the party, and havent been to WDW Epcot in over 10 years, but what about Epcot is 'dying and decaying'? Is there no interest anymore in the Showcases?

The Showcases have all the interest, as they are the only thing worth seeing at Epcot anymore (IMHO).
With the exceptions of Soarin' (currently closed) and Spaceship Earth (still good but not what it was).

When I last went to EPCOT it was really geared towards the WS and a few rides like Test Track etc.

After reading through this thread, I have to agree that adding IP to the park is very short sighted. My brother and mother just returned tonight from a week long stay at WDW and they talked about how so many kids/children were on their phones and looked very bored at EPCOT. I remember as a kid being so excited to learn about the WS and loved trying the food at all the showcases. I even remember loving the ride FOOD ROCKS (i think it was called that).

Now when kids/tweens get bored, then can just check out and just go on their phones any not pay attention to what is actually infront of them. Instead of being excited and learning about the WS countries, they can play AngryBirds or watch something on youtube on their phones. Disney needs to take this into consideration when trying to appeal all the parks to everyone if that is their goal.

But back to the IP. IP is constantly changing and children have such shortened attention spans nowadays that I don't believe they should spend years building a ride/attraction that by the time it is built, the IP was popular 4-5 years ago. Does that make sense? And the modern day disney IP's are not full of substance when compared to older disney themes/characters like the Lion King etc. It's late, but I hope this all makes sense.

Having not been to WDW in a while it is very saddening to hear that one of my childhood favorite parks is decaying. It was nice to go to EPCOT and have a much difference experience at all the parks. I very much enjoyed the Flower Festival and overall felt like EPCOT was much different than MK and HS. I don't believe EPCOT should go the way of MK or HS but I get that belief is pretty much the baseline on this board.

That has to be the most eloquent description I've seen of the soul, scope and vision of the original Epcot -- and the spirit that is missing from today's Disney Company.

It should be on a billboard outside the TDO Admin building, where every suit can see it as they come to work.
