Iger Confirms Star Wars Domestic Parks Presence

Interesting that this apparently will be a loss of the subs and Autopia for DL's TL for the speeder bike/Endor area. The same sort of ride is rumored to be planned to replace the Indy stunt show, which will certainly be accepted and appreciated far more by WDW guests than the DL faithful dealing with losing the subs and cars.

Speak for yourself. The Indy Stunt show is an institution at DHS, and I for one would be quite disheartened to see it go.

The Millennium Falcon is not that big for a walk through.

Nautilus? I'm quite a fan of that DLP walkthrough. To me, it shows that a Falcon walkthrough could be just lovely.

Why, I'd even combine it with WDSP's Armageddon for a TIE-fighter attack!

I never understood what you would really explore. Look, a place to eat. Look, a place to sleep. Look, a cargo bay. We don't spend much time in the Millennium Falcon. It is never set up as this grand, mysterious place like the Nautilus.

You're forgetting the chess board. If there's going to be a Millennium Falcon, then there had better be that chess board.

It doesn't have to just be the ship. It can be an entire hangar with droids going about, etc. Think about where the ship was first seen on Tatooine, or the different docking bays in Empire Strikes Back.

Found some random artwork online too -

The plan for Disneyland as discussed is for the Millennium Falcon to replace the Observatron.

I'll be honest - I don't know what the Observatron is (sounds like something similar to the Mysteries of the Nautilus in DLP?) but from what you're saying it's not big enough to build a hangar bay.

The Star Wars fan in me would think a life size MF in and of itself to be awesome, but they can definitely "plus" it to make it amazing.

This is TWDC we are talking about. I doubt there will be a plus to MF. I am hoping that you are right though. Lets just hope they don't do a 10 foot long forced perspective MF hanging from one of the buildings roofs. lol. It seems that TDO is great at Value Engineering things down to something less than grand.

The Observatron is the skeletal remains of the Rocket Jets located above the former loading platform of the PeopleMover and Rocket Rods. Think where the Astro Orbiter is located at the Magic Kingdom, but smaller to fit in with Disneyland's size.

The Nautilus is large and beautifully designed the Falcon is utilitarian and has mostly small spaces for the crew. It is a cargo ship.

\They would have to enlarge it a bit to get a walk through into some of these spaces.

The pit as at the end of a narrow walk way

This is the largest space besides the cargo area

Gun turret is also small

I would be very happy if they could display a game of Dejarik. (Let the wookiee win!)

Wish I could give any updates on Star Wars presence. Was just down there this past week and spent some time with the GF's BFF and her roommate (friend used to work for Disney, friend's roommate is currently on a team responsible for various safety aspects for a number of resorts). The roommate told me they heard things about increased Star Wars presence in DHS in passing but hasn't really paid all that much attention to what was said, followed by "I should probably pay more attention to stuff like that". Unfortunately, I couldn't glean anything other than that.

It's comparably as tight as Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-thru. It might not feel very WDW, but it fits Disneyland scale.

Good point.

The thing is that the Millenium Falcon is a key part of Star Wars lore. People will want to see a life size version of it and people will want to be "inside" the ship. I agree with the point that, intrinsically, a walk through of the MF might not be that interesting, but as long as it is a good reproduction of what is in the movies, people will enjoy it. Other than maybe dining in Mos Eisley cantina, experiencing the Falcon is probably the most desirable element a proper Star Wars land could have IMHO.

I guess you can make the argument that having a MF ride would be preferable to a walk through and it's a reasonable argument. Due to the small size of the cockpit, you would have to set it up in a way where you enter the ship people get broken up into different small groups with "you group" being the lucky ones to pilot the Falcon while the other people got stuck on other ships or something like that.

The Chewbacca M&G inside the Falcon would I guess work if you met him inside the cockpit and got photos there. That might solve the issue of the cockpit being small and a deadend by only letting in one group at a time. Using the above schematic of the ship, you enter up the ramp, walk clockwise into the cargo area, then into engineering (have an AA R2-D2 working on fixing something), then the lounge, etc. until you get to the cockpit. There the "rebel" CM lets groups in one by one to the cockpit to meet Chewie, then you are back at the ramp and leave.

One issue would be making it wheelchair accessible while keeping it realistic.
