IDK, their interactions are in a gray area where it's hard to tell if it's intended to just be friendly banter or if they are flirting. I wouldn't be surprised if they become a couple by the end of the sequel.
The first movie was all about racism, so it seems like a natural extension to have the sequel tackle what would metaphorically be an interracial romance.
