Iger and Chapek Livid With Lucasfilm

There’s no question here...just check a store (in a mask, of course)...there is hardly any product. It’s a pathetic fraction of what it was.

Some of that is consumer change...kids don’t consume toys a much...growth of online...i get it.

But product levels shouldn’t be this low. What the did have - that I noticed when I was in a target to pick up a script last week - was “empire strikes back 40th anniversary”.

That’s telling...it goes with what I’ve been told by friends who work at/with Lego...

Can only sell the OT stuff.

Agreed. My son has a huge addiction to Star Wars toys but he wants PT, OT and Clone Wars. We now have a room dedicated to Lego Star Wars but the only ST stuff he wanted was Kylo Ren's shuttle and the Tie Dagger..er Dorrito. P

While I agree that your point is correct, personally I'd be very interested in a Finn/Poe TV series taking place between Ep VIII and IX. I think they are both interesting characters that were undeveloped and would like to see more.
That surprises me. I myself, in turn, thought throughout the first half of VII that SW had the greatest set of characters ever. By the end of IX I really only cared for Rey anymore. Even bearing in mind that I enjoyed VIII & IX better than most.

There is certainly a story in Finn and Poe, but for me they dropped the ball with them already.

I would think that most if not all major decisions regarding lucasfilm are actually made up top from the GMs office.

Not all departments/divisions...but the LFL purchase was a weird combination of an “internationally marquee” move saddled with “mistakes” due to George and his late “eisnerian” period...

They also are/were directly competing with marvel which became HUGE at exactly that time. $300 Ironman and captain America movies had just become $1.2 billion dollar avenger movies with huge worldwide momentum.

Pixar made sense...marvel has overachieved...LFL was supposed to be Iger’s feather...
Nobody thought George was gonna sell and the world perked up.

But it has not gotten the job done to the level it should have and a lot of that were internal mistakes. They erased the all time Hollywood classic characters and didn’t leave a memorable one in their place after it was over. Now that the dust settled we can really look at this. Daisy Ridley will never be as widely recognized as Hamill, Fisher or Ford. It’s just how it is. And that shouldnt be so. Their goal was obviously replacement and what they got is decline.

Maybe the world has changed too much and that’s not all on Disney?...but there were some obvious mistakes. I will concede that.

Iger talked about that sale and the weird situation with Kennedy in the middle in his book. She is there for the wrong reasons on some fronts even if the choice made sense. We’ve beat them over and over again and don’t need to do it now.

But she’s not Feige...or catmull/Lasseter....too much heat in that kitchen.

It’s performed great....

...they need content. Industry estimates are that Hollywood production is shut down for the year. That’s minimum 10 months which is dangerous to the streaming services.

They get stale and they end up an also ran that people won’t care for long term. The world changed in a hurry and we don’t know how that’s gonna affect consumer tastes yet?

Disney is struggling with this in nearly all their business segments.

In essence: not the time to buy stock.
Hopefully they release more Classic Disney content

Might have walked into the wrong neighborhood then 😉

Disney is now tied to Star Wars...like it or not. Because people have spent a lot on Star Wars. Follow the money.
I'm just hoping that they make people mad enough to just contain Star Wars into one corner of a park for the rest of its life LOL.

I respect it as a franchise. I was just one of those that was content with Star Tours and that's all.

Of course SW has made money for Disney. You or I could have directed the franchise into profitability with no prior knowledge of the industry. The problem is expectations.

Marvel has made 5x its investment back in profits. $4.5B in expense for $22.5B in revenue. This for a franchise containing a bunch of characters that the general public had only sort of heard of. Star Lord? Doctor Strange? Thanos? Black Widow? Who??? Even Hulk and Captain America were on the margins of our culture's consciousness.

Star Wars, by contrast, has made back 4.7x its investment: $1.25B expense for $5.9B profit. Take out the pent up demand displayed in "The Force Awakens" and you drop down to 4x the profit. Star Wars should have *ruled* the box office, but after Rogue One, it did not.

In general, as a rule of thumb, a movie costs 1.5 times it's reported production budget for marketing and studio overhead.

In general, as a rule of thumb, a studio only makes half the Box Office gross because the other half goes to the movie theater.

So, Marvel has made only about $5B in profit (for the movies in the theatrical window).

SW movies have made only about $1B in profit (the the movies in the theatrical window).

Of course, there's a lot more money to be made in post-theatrical markets, merchandise, and boosting Disney+ and the parks.

I was watching for Star Wars to make its way into the other three parks. I’m so disappointed with the new land and I’m a life long SW’s fan. I rank MMRR ahead of Rise. I guess it’s DHS only.

The day Star Wars comes into ANY of the other three parks is the day I will stop going. Literally no joke, and not an empty threat. I'd be done.

Let me start it for everyone coming in after me...

Hopefully they loosen up Galaxy’s Edge a bit to stretch the storyline out. They have plenty of expansion space. Move Star Tours or that concept into GE and replace the Launch Bay.
I’m looking forward to the Obi Wan Disney + series.

Does Iger and Chapek have anything to do with Lucasfilm? I've never read anything that shows they are involved, certainly not in the creative sense. Livid for rich people means they didn't get their voicemail returned fast enough.

Isn't this kind of the only place on here we post news and rumors? Well, rumors at least
That’s a good point. I don’t understand why some people demand facts instead of rumors in the Rumors sub-forum.

It’s one thing if someone with no track record posts erroneous rumors; @WDW Pro is more reputable than that. And he/she is simply sharing industry gossip and opinions—which also accounts for most of the stories passing as news on Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Huff Post, Vox, Fox, CNN, etc. ;)

At last report the obi-wan series was so bad they shut it down
<fingers crossed for HyperSpace Mountain>
Hey! I like that.
Ok, I actually rode HyperSpace Mountain at Disneyland and that was really good. But it could just be that their Space Mountain is better in general.

If we're talking seasonal Space Mountains, I want the halloween one.
You’re not wrong...the Star Wars space mountain is good

The Halloween one - however - is awful.

You mean other than they own it and Iger personally negotiated the deal??
