I wish we could say "Bye Bye" to Fantasmic

Well, you have to still get there early enough and you sit in the area set aside for people with the package.
You can't expect to get a seat 5 minute prior to the show starting.

If you're paying extra for a benefit - make it a benefit.

Give them GOOD seats, give them guaranteed seats, give them 5 minute before curtain seating.

Not some roped off area off to the side that becomes overflow seating for the general public on a first come first served basis.

Personally I never wanted to wait in line...but at DLand this summer I was just eating and the show started and so I watched it....I must say it is worth ANY wait. I thought the show was AMAZING...however World of Color is going to BLOW it away.

But you're not paying for anything. The Fantasmic! package adds nothing to the cost of the same meal without "priority seating".

I'm a yearly Disney guest and I'm wrapping up my CP here at the World. In all, I've seen Fantasmic 3 times since its debut and not once have I been the slightest bit impressed with it. There is one word that fittingly describes Fantasmic in my opinion, and that word is "LAME." The actual concept of Mickey having a dream turned nightmare and rescuing it is...idk what is that??? I mean for the most part you're just watching a movie...wow awesome :hammer: they try to make it dramatic during certain live scenes but it comes out as kind of corky or cheesy. Lastly, via word of mouth, I hear that it's rare that all the effects are working properly. Does anyone feel the same way?

I know a lot of you love Fantasmic but a lot of you also think that there are too many attractions/shows that are in more than one Disney park throughout the world. So, if we could say "Bye bye" to Fantasmic, what kind of nite time show would you like to see at the Studios?

For the most part, I have to say I do agree with you. When Fantasmic first debuted at DL back in the early 90's, it was very impressive and entertaining. The only thing about it that I never liked was the dragon, which I do think "lame" is the perfect word to describe it. DL's version is getting a new dragon however, so we'll wait and see how that one looks.

When Fantasmic came to WDW, it was of course a newer show than it's DL counterpart, so one would expect something grander and more technologically impressive. In fact, the WDW is a severely downgraded version in every respect. I have NEVER been impressed at all by the WDW version, but I know that is due in large part to the fact that I'm comparing it to the one at DL. Still, I think that even if that had been the only version I'd ever seen, I'm not sure I would have been impressed by it.

Having said all that, whether or not Fantasmic was impressive when it first debuted, I do agree that it needs to be either massively updated or replaced altogether. In its current form, it does look cheesy and outdated.

Theres a reason this show has lasted for so long and shows no signs of leaving soon....its still WAAAYYYYY to popular for both new and returning guests.

I'm curious, you say that its still popular with "new and returning guests". Is this just your impression or do you have some data that shows what percentage of the typical Fantasmic audience is made up of new guests versus returning guests.

If it's mostly new guests, then I think it's fair to say that's much more about marketing than it is about the quality and impressiveness of the show itself. If I had never seen Fantasmic before, and I saw the impressive looking posters with the fire-breathing dragon (which looks NOTHING like the one in the actual show by the way), I would make it a high priority must-see for my trip. But now that I've seen it, it's very low on the priority list when I visit.

I haven't seen Fantasmic since my first viewing of it in 2006. I liked it at the time, but as my next trip draws near I am having a hard time getting excited about seeing it again. It's definitely my least favorite fireworks/nighttime show. I know a lot of people love it, so I'm not going to say it should be gotten rid of, but perhaps some updates would do it some good.

If Fantasmic were really as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be, then it wouldn't fill to capacity. Period. And the crowd is a mixture of new and returning guests, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out. There isn't going to be a capacity crowd of strictly first-timers or strictly regulars. And while down at Marquee, you wouldn't have every fourth guest tell you that they need to get into the show because it's the attraction they planned their entire day or even trip around. It's just as with everything else on property: To each his own. Lots of people enjoy RoE. Me? I take the start of RoE as my cue to head to the car. Lots of people love Spectro. Personally, it makes me nauseous and would give my right arm to have MSEP back.

Granted, I love Vivian (the dragon) She and the mountain she inhabits were my life for a whole year. I can still give my 2 day training spiel (which is now down to one day, I'm told. No wonder those kids don't know how to run that theater.) The show does indeed need an upgrade. Unfortunately, don't see it happening anytime soon, the only tweaks the show's getting are the ones that it just got during its most recent refurb. Although, I must say, I haven't seen Vivian look better than she does now.

And I'm not gonna lie: House 3 dinner package sucks. I never recommended it to anyone then, and I still don't to this day. That projector is shoddy, the view sucks (although it is rather funny to watch the monkeys rip off their costumes during the transition from LK to Bubbles *LOL*) and then on top of that, that's overflow seating once House 1 is filled, or the show starts and the redirect happens. It's honestly not worth the money. Now, were dinner package seating somewhere from the Scar section to Maleficent, then okay, fine. At least that's good viewing. Hell, making all of House 2 (Scar, Mickey and Pocahontas) dinner package would be a better idea, and would definitely be worth the money then. Although, it's never going to happen.

I can understand why some people aren't too excited about it. After seeing the show repeatedly for a whole year, I got tired of it. But the bottom line is this: The show ain't going anywhere for awhile. It's still a giant crowd pleaser. Not to mention the fact that the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater was built specifically for Fantasmic. Unfortunately, you're in the minority when it comes to liking or disliking the show.

I like it and would much see Reflections of the Earth replaced instead. This show has a great opening and ending but the entire middle section is nothing but a boring laser show

I'd like to see it replaced by something like the World of Color show that willbe in DCA.

I love Fantasmic. I just wish they would update/modify it.
Replace the Pocahontas scene, remove about half of the water projections:snore: (I realize most of them are there to mask stage setup, but I think it's too much). I'd also prefer to see a longer Princess scene, that scene is too short, and those those boats go by too quickly. I do love the snake scene (music wise), but the snake is not really impressive. It they were to make it look closer to the film version it'd be better. The Hades/Bald Mountain projection should be turned into an actual scene. I'd love to see all those ghosts flying around the stage with Mickey darting back and forth scared out-of-his wits:lol:.

I wonder if the OP would have a different opinion of the show if it would get the enhancements that DL's has been, and will be receiving in the summer. .

I think it's important to keep a show like Fantasmic current and fresh with new technology (updated lighting system, digital projectors, reworking/improving show scenes, LED lights, new dragon, etc that DL has gotten over the past few years) otherwise it will become dated

for those of you who don't visit the DL section: here's a youtube video of the april 24th presentation which gave a preview of the new stuff coming to Fantasmic (as part of Summer Nightastic) click here to see the video hopefully DHS will get some of these enhancements in the future. i think someone hinted about it earlier in the thread, so hopefully it'll happen.

Fantasmic fills to capacity because it's the night cap for DHS. People end their nights at MK, Epcot, and DHS with fireworks or some show, and this is it.

I don't have much attachment to any of the movies shown in Fantasmic, and frankly I find the whole production "meh" now. I've seen better elsewhere on property now (back when it debuted it was the best night show) and they need to put money in. You don't stand still and let it rot, you keep investing in it to keep the momentum going.

I'd rather miss Fantasmic over Illuminations any day.

I agree in that for me, 'Fantasmic' never really hit me as a 'must see' once i saw it.I remember the first time- i went in thinking this was to be one of the coolest, unique live shows i would ever see. My hopes were pumped up high due to all the positive reviews from WDW fans and Disney's marketing in general. I was led to beleive this would really 'wow' me.

It did not, not by a longshot..and i saw it back when it was new and all the effects were new and working.

I could not understand what everyone was getting so excited about. It really left me cold. I kept waiting for the 'excitement' and 'wow factor' to happen..but instead i groaned though endless video clips projected onto sprays of water. It was cool the first couple of times...but VERY tedious by shows' end with the multiple uses! I also found it a bit of a let down, and totally agree that there are far too many 'video breaks' in between the live staging segments. I get very turned off watching video screens at a Park. I don't want to be watching tv after paying big bucks to visit. Disney these days seems to be increasing this with each new additon..i.e. Nemo ride at EPCOT, Monsters Inc attraction at MK, etc.People say it's for the short attention spans of today's younger audiences, but for a lot of us 'old timers' it can be downright dull. When the videos roll, so do my eyes. It just leaves a poor impressive, and it makes it feel like a cheap cop-out when they could have done something far more creative.

Just my thoughts...i have never been a big fan of 'F' by any length, and i often tell people i know who plan on visiting to not bother seeing it if they are pressed for time.

On a positive note- DisneyLand's version i hear is FAR cooler and better staged then the FL copy. I missed seeing it the time i first visited CA ( the 'Pirates 3' Premeire Event was being held that week, so no showings of 'F'...dang it!)

In all the years Ive been going to WDW and MGM, I have never seen fantasmic. Gasp!!!:eek: Yea, I know. I told myself I was gonna watch it, I forget which year, I think back in 2004, but I saw that Tot had no line. And I now know that all the major stuff hardly has a line, and with TSM, it still has a line but its not that bad, so I dont think Ill ever get to see it. Ill probably just watch it on youtube like I did a while ago, but as far as watching it face to face, I dont know when that'll be. Plus, with all these missing effects and stuff, I dont see why I should see it and not see the full show, I wont know what is or isnt working and Ill probably walk away unimpressed.

But I dont think its going anywhere anytime soon though. Too many people love it, and Im glad they do, I get to do ToT about 5 times in a row.
