I think I'm starting to regret booking.

I was just reading on another site and someone was told by a CM while booking dining at Blue Bayou that the Pirates refurb was being pushed to April. They said its brand new info they just received so its not posted yet. Of course they didn't say when in April or for how long. I really hope this isn't the case. I really hope the end of April/first of May is okay.

We booked our air and since have been learning about the refurbs. I'm so glad DL isn't afraid to take things down to care for them properly. Really I am. I was pretty disappointed about Soarin because we're huge aviation buffs and I wanted to see the queue so bad. Space Mountain blows because I wanted to experience it on the left coast in a form that isn't half-a** and won't beat you to death. Alice in Wonderland looks so very charming and I was so excited to see it. But now Pirates, too??? It's supposed to be better out west! :coldfeet:

'Til now I've said we'll just have to go back. But, its expensive and what's to say we won't book flights and find out the things we're after will be closed again? If anything, its kinda a deterrent for future trips. What if?????

I wish wish wish we hadn't booked those flights. I wish we'd opted for St.Maarten. Maybe this is what I get for going against the kiddos, telling them 'Tough noogies" when they asked to go on another cruise instead.

:banghead::banghead::banghead:

No. It'd tack on too much expense. $600+.

I think you will still have a great time at DLR! So much fun stuff to see/do. It's a shame that quite a few of the rides you wanted to see will be down. The same thing has happened to us when going to WDW too though. You still have quite a few rides that are Disneyland only or significantly different then WDW. HM, Mr Toad, Roger Rabbit, Matterhorn, Casey Jr, Storybook Canal, Indy, Snow White, Nemo Subs, Tarzan Treehouse, Monster's Inc, Fun Wheel, Carsland etc.

Nemo Subs down (maybe out?), too. :( Not too bad on that one. I remember the 20K subs from when I was a kid. ;)

Thanks for the kindness @raven24 & @RandomPrincess .

True, we haven't bought park tickets yet. I was about to start picking them up from way.com. Maybe we should rethink where we stay & what we do in SoCal. Hmmmmm....

Hubby still swears I'm going to fall madly in love and fight to go back every chance I get. The way y'all describe it as so laid back, that's a big part of why I don't want to go to WDW anytime soon. Too much to micro-manage, too much stress, too much chaos, too much high-strung nerves. Laid back + parks sounds incredible.

That's good that you haven't bought tickets yet! How about trying the parks for just one day? You could explore and if you don't like them, you don't have to buy tickets for more days. Then you could plan other things to do.

Next time. St. Maarten. And take me with you. I miss it there.

A family vacation together to a place with some rides in refurb is better than no time with the family at all. :D Have fun!

Sitting in the BB restaurant you really do not see much of PotC ride. Basically the que and boats going by. Its the atmosphere thats really nice. The que for Soaring is pretty unremarkable too. I don't think there is a time of year when somethings not being refurbed. My advice, just go and have a great time!

That would stink about Pirates. I am also bummed about Soarin' (my favorite WDW ride), Alice, and Nemo. As of now, Space is supposed to reopen the week before we arrive, so hopefully it will be on schedule or DS will go nuts. There's still enough new stuff to keep us busy, though, for the mere two days we have to spend there.

No regrets sweet pea , you will still have a great time cuz there is still so many more rides and shows to do and see. It is so true that it is laid back, nothing like WDW. I vote for you to still go!

I totally understand your frustration here @sweetpee_1993. I'm sure you remember my "gloom, despair and agony" thread about all the refurbs taking place during our upcoming trip. Pirates was such a huge disappointment to us that we almost canceled our trip. But, after I pouted about it for a few days I did something I swore I wouldn't do - I pulled up Disneyland ride videos and began thinking about all that I was still excited to see. I swear, Indiana Jones alone was enough to amp my excitement back up to a 10, not to mention what I saw of Carsland. I can not wait to walk those quaint, beautiful walkways in New Orleans Square and to ride Roger Rabbit in an awesome looking ToonTown. I guess my point is to simply say, since you can't change your flight, ya'll go on your trip. Have an amazing time doing all those other things that are unique to the left coast. And keep hoping that they change the dates of the refurb!! :)

There's still plenty to do in the parks, and to be honest, a meal at Carthay Circle is much better than one at The Blue Bayou. Keep in mind for the future that after summer and winter holidays you will always have refurbs going on.

Pirates has gotten some enhancements recently and it's in almost perfect condition.

Closed Space Mountain sucks, but it's frankly the norm. It was already closed for a while last year and is constantly down anyway. Soarin's queue isn't much of a loss. It's a fairly unimpressive set of metallic hallways with photos of famous aviators and awesome music. Alice in Wonderland is a cool ride, but I don't consider it a big loss either. It's another one that honestly needs help since they've had ugly tarps outside for years now. Hopefully you'll be able to say you were there as they were removing those abominations!

At least Haunted Mansion will be open! I have to deal with that one being down or ruined for like 5 months out of the year.

I would be bummed about Pirates and Space too, but as others have pointed out there is still lots of other unique stuff in DLR to enjoy. I have eaten at Blue Bayou and I actually liked my meals at Café Orleans better. And Carthay Circle in DCA is better than Blue Bayou too, the thought of the cheddar jalapeno biscuits is almost enough to get me to book a flight.

I'm thinking about this. I was going to buy all our tickets off way.com to save some $$. Buying at the gate would kill that. But I'm thinking.....

There are lots of fun things to do in the rest of SoCal as well! I like raven's idea of getting a one day ticket and deciding from there too.
I fully intend to return for more SoCal fun. There's so much to see & do. I'm seriously thinking on the days in parks, tho.

I'd take you to St.Maarten in a heartbeat. You could show us around!

You're so right. Who cares what's closed? It's so hard to get time with the whole ram together nowadays. Even if we sit on a bench soaking in the surroundings, at least it's together.

Oh I wasn't the one who called to make a BB reservation. I won't be doing that. We lived in the New Orleans area for 10 years. I know I'd be seriously disappointed in the food. At those prices, not a chance. That's why I so wanted the ride to be open, because we won't be eating in BB.

I hear ya. Space & Soarin hurt. We'll all have a ball in spite of these little hiccups to our grand vision of excellence. LOL!

Oh we will be going. I'm not eating those flights and not paying the bucks to change them. I think we'll still enjoy it. Hubby swears I'm going to fall in love. I hope he's right.

True. I can watch ride thrus of the down attractions. I'm so looking forward to all the new-to-us stuff.

I'm sure Carthay Circle would be better. I need to go re-read that menu. No BB here. I'm certain that food would be a huge let-down and the prices would really make me mad for disappointing food. Thanks for the kind words. I do appreciate it.

Ack! Throw me a bone! Lie to me and tell me Pirates totally sucks! LOL!

We are such huge aviation buffs. We are talking about returning to St.Maarten to sit on a beach and watch planes up close & personal for a week. All the pictures of planes and aviators would be as big a draw for us as the ride. Serious. We are the people they built that for!

Yes! Definitely ahoy to have some happy haunts to look forward to visiting!

Thanks for the encouragement. Def need to go check out that Carthay Circle menu! Cheddar jalapeño biscuits? Yes!!!

Maybe this'll help you feel better.

Although our Pirates is twice the length of Florida's, the queue in comparison is underwhelming.

Alice is not the best dark ride, in my opinion. Plus, you'll have Pinocchio to look forward to, which is unique.

Although our Space Mountain is without bumps and a little faster, there is only one drop.

I've waited over a year to ride one of my favorites, Big Thunder, and my annual pass expired. You'll be able to ride the newly improved runaway train, and I won't.

Did that help?

I'd rather you could go ride BTMRR! Better still, ride with US! That would make me feel better. ;)
