I need help with Contemporary Resort requests

Hello all! My first time here, so I hope I am doing this right! I need some help from you.

We are celebrating our 20-year anniversary this year - and our 15th year in a row going to Disney! We wanted it to be special, so we decided to stay in the main tower of the Contemporary. We have stayed at the Contemporary before, but stayed in the garden wing. Due to our anniversary, we decided to splurge to stay in the main building - shorter walk to the monorail, restaurants, etc. We are staying for 9 nights and that can get a little pricey, so we opted for the Bay Lake view to save a little money. Would love to stay on the Theme Park side to watch the fireworks out my room window (you can do that, right?), but we just can't afford the extra $500. We are going in the 2nd week in September, so I am assuming the crowds will be low. We usually go the first week, but have noticed the past few years that others are catching on and it has been more crowded each year, so we are trying the 2nd week this year. A little background for you. :)

Anyway, we have never stayed in the main building, and in the past when we requested a King bed, we never get one because the by the time we check in, they are all out. And this year we won't be getting there until midnight, so I know there won't be one available, so I am trying their "online check-in" now. And it gives me these room/amenity choices, but I don't know what to choose because I am not sure what they really are - I can choose two:

Balcony
Upper Floor
Odd Room Number
Ground Floor
Near Transportation
Patio

Which is better? A Balcony or a Patio? Or do some of the rooms not even have either one?

Which is better? Upper floor or Ground floor? What are the differences? I do not really know the building, so not sure if one is better.

Does being Near Transportation mean the monorail?

What is better about an Odd Room Number?

Can anyone help me understand these "amenities?" Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Just came back from staying at the tower with a Bay Lake view and loved it!
Rooms in the tower start on the 5th floor I believe so there is no way for you to have a patio or stay on the ground floor!
For the tower, I honestly don't think near transportation really matters unless they'll put you closer to the elevator that leads you to the transportation.
Odd number rooms on the Magic Kingdom side are the ones that have the beds facing the windows so you can watch fireworks from your bed!

We opted for "highest floor" just to stay away from the fourth floor noise and to have better views and got placed on the 9th floor which was totally fine.
Hope this helps!

Welcome!

I was responding to your questions at the same time as @totaldisneygirl, so our comments are similar:

These Contemporary online check in options make me laugh, because if you are staying in the tower the lowest floor with rooms is the 5th floor, so "ground floor" or "patio" do not apply! All the rooms in the tower will have a balcony. The higher the floor, the more expansive your view will be (but really just incrementally.) The elevators are located in the center of the tower, so "near transportation" is also a moot request, as everyone will have to walk the same distance from where the elevator doors open ~ on the 4th floor for the monorail, or the ground floor for the buses.

The "Odd Room Number" request is worth checking, because if you have a Theme Park view room you can watch the fireworks while lying in bed. We did this on a vacation several years ago and it was pretty cool. However, given our choice, we always pick Bay Lake view (and not for the money savings.) Though you can see the MK from rooms on the opposite side, you also see the Contemporary parking lot, convention center, and main thoroughfare to the MK. The rooms also face west, so it is TOO HOT to enjoy your balcony in the afternoon or early evening. The sun is blinding! Bay Lake view is more pretty and tranquil. Also, you can watch the Electrical Water Pageant from your room.

You will enjoy your stay from either side. We spent our honeymoon at the Contemporary. Happy Anniversary!

I agree with everyone that has already been said about the CR. I have stayed on both sides of the tower and both were pleasant. The elevators are in the middle of the tower but I would opt for a room away from the elevator. If you are close to the elevator, everyone has to go by your room on the way their room and it could be noisy when guests get home from the park late at night. The patio request is moot because there are patios only on ground level rooms in the garden wing. Every room is convenient to the monorail....down the elevator and up the escalator.....I just love love love the CR.
We were there is September 2013 from the 8th-15th....so the same week you will go. The crowds are low during the week but not the weekend. I would stay away from the MK on the weekend. And I am sure you know that it is hot hot hot and humid humid humid.....
As far as getting a king bed.....I would call now and put in that request. Tell them it is your anniversary...yada yada yada and see where you get. They will say add it to your reservation but they will say that it cannot be guaranteed. Then I would call again 3-4 days before arrival and remind them of your request....again...it's our anniversary...... Tell them that you are not due to arrive until midnight and you are concerned that all the ing rooms will be gone by then. If the king bed is your #1 request, that should be on the top of your wish list.
Have a Wonderful Anniversary and a Magical Vacation! :cat:

Welcome to the Forums!

Do not ask for the Near Transportation one! It is the worst to have noisy guests passing your rooms after an elevator ride! :p

Agree with most prior posts, including and specifically being not near elevators (easy walk for ICE and to 4th floor to get monorail escalator at the expense of much MUCH more noise) as many guests in rooms on your side of the tower schlep by each morning and evening while yelling to each other or talking loudly on their phones.

Thank you all so much for all of your tips and advice! I am putting the request in for upper floor - I hope it works! And I will call close to my arrival and request King bed again!

Unfortunately I didn’t see this until you’ve already done the online check-in....

My advice is NOT to choose any of the options on the online check-in. By far the better way is to call the reservations CMs and get your specific request added to the reservation.

Rooms are allocated around 5 days ahead. If you get the CM to add in “Would love a king bed, it’s our anniversary” then your chances are as good as anyone else’s, even if you are arriving late. I don’t know what you’ve done before, but if you wait until you get there, it’s too late. Your room was decided a few days ago!

The reason I say don’t do online check-in is there is a free form field the CMs can fill in. But this will be over-written by the drop down choices you make. It’s all the same field on their system. I would still phone now and ask them to delete the choices you put in and make the king bed your main priority - if indeed it still is. And tell them why, ask them to enter it onto the system.

Good luck, and happy anniversary!

I am sure the OP had a wonderful 20th anniversary, 4 years ago. 😉

Not sure why new member @DVCCHRISS bumped this old thread. 🤷‍♀️
Well to be fair think about all the times we wished people used the search feature. Maybe DVCCHRISS was doing a search on Contemporary, saw the thread and just didn't note the age of the thread. I didn't until you pointed out and I was about to reply too.

I just went from 8/18-8/28 originally was suppose to stay at dcr for 4 nights the hotel back office was able to accommodate me where I was able to stay 7 nights even tho reservation landing said it wasn’t available. So your best bet is to wheel and deal directly at hotel unless it’s the holiday season most likely they can do some magic to grant your request
