Trip Report I know, Disney is just SO horrible (alternate title: Is there a sign on my scooter?) - COMPLETED

Who: My husband Scott and I
When: May 5th-11th, 2018
Where: Pop Century Resort

This is my first trip report, so please forgive me if I make an trip report faux pas!

DAY 1

Up at 4am to get a morning shower (it's my equivalent of coffee)
got ready and woke hubby up at 430am.

Scott's mom picked us up at 5am to shuttle us to the airport (she's a trooper)! We got to the airport about 530am and we were number one in the queue for Southwest. Sent off our luggage, and we had reserved a wheelchair for hubs because he's disabled, and although he can walk, he can't DISNEY walk, and in the airports we just find it easier. It also allows us to board first on Southwest, so that works out great. But before we got the wheelchair, he wanted to go outside to smoke his pipe for a bit, since we were so early (the flight was at 720am, but I worked for the airlines for 13 years, and you are suppose to be at the airport 2 hours prior to departure... I can't break that habit, and I don't like to feel late!

wow, what a wrinkly sleeve!

While we were outside, there was a dude out there dancing and facebook live-ing it.... ok then. You do you dude!

Went back to the Southwest desk to call for a skycap with a wheelchair, and we were whisked thru pre-check/handicap security really quickly.

edited to add: I did get stopped at security because of my splint on my arm/hand. the lady inspected it, wanded it, and drug tested it. All which took about 1 minute or less.

Here we are at the gate, waiting for boarding... hubby looks thrilled.

We were off right on time. From Grand Rapids, MI, we had to change planes in Chicago Midway.

This was an interesting relic to see there:

Everything was also on time to MCO, the flight was full however, and I refuse to sit in a middle seat. Usually, I get hubby to sit aisles across from eachother, but he was being ornery this morning, so he was sitting at the window, and I'm on the aisle in the same row, with a confused person between us. She tried to get each of us at separate times to move over next to eachother, but each of us refused. Sorry lady, you were almost the last person on the plane... you get the middle seat! :hilarious:

Next: Day 1 continued...

Day 1 Continued...

Once we were done with HM, it was time to head to Tomorrowland Terrace for our dessert party, where we would be meeting Hubby's Sister and family (remember niece the cheerleader was there for summit)

Right after we arrived it started pouring, and I was afraid that HEA wouldn't happen... Hubby's sister was running late (normal) so we went in without them to get the most out of our party.

IMG_0581.jpg

I found everything to be tasty. Especially the little strawberry tart thing, and the chocolate covered strawberries. I threw in some grapes and cheese for good measure!

Eventually his sister and gang arrived and joined us. And it did finally stop raining.
I'll add the photopass photo's of all of us later... (they are on her account)

Do they look alike or what?

After we ate sufficient amounts of sugar, we had the podium escort us to the garden viewing area. It was already busy, but not so full that would couldn't find a nice spot, where we could stretch are arms out without touching other people. I had brought two tubes of the glow in the dark bracelets, and I enlisted my niece and nephew to help me put them together and pass them out to kids around us. They were shy about it at first, but once they saw me do it, they got the hang of being nice =D

I never saw wishes, and if I did, I don't remember. So I thought HEA was terrific! I loved the projections! I can't even imagine Disney's firework budget every day!

time to make dinner, more later

day 1... TBC

Then we headed towards HM, where I visited the Tangled bathrooms along the way (my favorite the whole trip), and then we stopped to get a treat. Hubby got an ice cream sandwich, and I got this sad mickey bar. I almost took it back, it was not instagram worthy! It was still tasty though.

I'd say that Mickey bar is perfectly 'gramable. Just say it's art that deals with Disney trying to maintain it's self amongst this new world of Snapchat. #artmajor. Or something along those lines.

Oh no you are back already!

I hope you had a fab time and 8 lo9k forward to reading all about it

Look left, look right is mine! - Tuvalu did it on her last trip because of me - I hope you did it too?
I’m trying to create a “thing”. - like the purple wall!

I hope I don’t have to wait too long for the next update......

Because I hadn't been in 23 years, I didn't know when it was coming and before I knew it, I had missed it! Did you know they have "purple wall" hats now? Now that Disney made it a thing, I think it'll go out of fashion!

Sounds like fun! I'm in. And I don't blame you for not wanting the middle seat on the plane. Hubs and I usually do aisles as well.

I think middle seats should be illegal.. make the two seats bigger! There was an airline like that back in the 80's... call Midwest Express. Leather large seats, two on each side, and they use to bake chocolate chip cookies on their flights too!

After the fireworks, our next fast pass wasn't until 10pm. So with the whole family, I talked them into riding the TTA. Hubby thought it was the lamest ride ever. (who is this man I married?) Afterwards, my sister in law had a FP for it's a small world... and Scott had NO desire to join us... and my brother in law was ok with giving up his FP to me so I could go with my SIL, Niece and Nephew. I just grabbed his magic band and rode the ride I love! I didn't remember it being so LONG... man that's a long ride... but I love it. Scott and BIL were wondering if we got kidnapped in there it was so long!

I just love the goats!

Afterward we still had time to get to our next FP

After that I started rolling FP's while in line... next up:

And the last rolling fast pass of the evening:

Admission: (the last three pictures I pilferred from the internet because I forgot to take pictures!)

After our visit to Ariel and friends, we headed to the front of the park:

So beautiful at night!

My one complaint (and I'm sure everyone before me) is that Pop's bus stops are almost always one of the farthest away... at the end of the night... that was an exhausting walk!

We got a lot done for day one! I was happy with how much we accomplish. It would make day 2 much easier!

We got back to the resort around Midnight and I literally jumped into the high bed. Those new matresses are SUPER comfy by the way... we want one now at home!

Next up: Day 2

My wife has this t-shirt. Her mom laughed when she saw it and said it was perfect for her.
