I have a dilemna....which resort?

I have a small problem with my wife, daughter and I. I am going about getting things together to plan a trip to WDW.
My wife wants to stay at WL, my daughter wants to stay at POP, and I want to do Port Orleans. They are both adamant, especially my wife.
We've done AS Sports and Music and CBR.
I figured I'd choose the middle of the road with a moderate.

Some thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

By the way...my daughter is 11 and one reason she wants to stay at POP is because it is cheaper and we could spend the money we save on other things like Turkey Legs!

Thanks

Splitting up your stay is a good idea, but if the rest of the family doesn't want to do that, I'd stay at Port Orleans. OK, OK, it's my FAVORTE Disney resort, so I'm prejudiced :D , but you just can't beat it for atmosphere, convenience, amenities and location - and the price is right for me, too. ;)

ooooh...oooh.. don't forget the bananna stuffed french toast at boatwrights!!

Thay have that there!?!

I thought they just had that at the Coral Isle Cafe (I forget at the moment what it is now called).

My wife loves that. Oh boy...thats points for my resort choice!!!

Easy. Let your wife stay at WL. Book a room at Pop Century for your daughter, and stay at Port Orleans yourself.

If you all have cell phones, just call each other in the morning, and meet up in one of the parks.

Then again, that might be hard to do. You're wife might want to go to AK, your daughter might want to go to MK, and you might want to go to EPCOT.

If that happens, just decide to meet at the airport before the return flight.

Interesting idea :D

I vote for splitting the stay between WL and POR. If you're going to only stay at one resort, think about what is your favourite area in WDW. For instance, my favourite WDW area is the MK because it makes me feel closest to the magic, so I tend to stay at MK resorts.

And let me just say.. you have a great 11 year old! Wanting to stay at a cheaper resort so you can buy more things at the parks! That's something I've just gotten the hang of and I'm 19! I opted to cancel OKW in favour of the cheaper POFQ.

I vote for the Wilderness Lodge. A couple of reasons:
1. The boss wants to stay there.
2. It's a deluxe and will have more amenities than the others.
3. The boss wants to stay there.

Due to the hassle of packing and unpacking (and the potential for additional "where's my stuff" type hassles), I wouldn't split my trip up between two resorts.

I would guess, if your wife wants WL, she will absolutely NOT be happy going for a room that's as small as a value resort. You're going from a room that's 344 sq ft plus a balcony to 260 sq ft and no balcony. Plus, at the value resorts, you run a greater risk of large groups of barely-supervised kids going on class/band/church trips, being that much more loud and obnoxious. Which is not to say everyone staying at a Deluxe is a guaranteed saint, and it might be nice for your daughter to be able to have some "Disney friends." But if I were the father of a daughter, the idea of a group of rowdy high school band kids who consider what Alyson Hannigan described during her "And this one time...at band camp..." scene in American Pie to be foreplay, inviting my daughter to hang out with them, that would be enough to have me running for the Deluxes. And if you might not go until June, the odds of classes of rowdy about-to-be-high-school graduates would also have me pulling out my eyebrow hair (I'm bald, so that's as good as it gets). If you can't get them to compromise on PO-Riverside, go for the WL. The odds of large groups of kids will be less, and those kids who are there will (in theory) have better supervision because it will be families and not groups.

Resort choice

Caution - long post!

I've not been to Pop Century so I can't comment on that resort. My friend stayed there and he said it was fine. Pool tended to get a bit crowded though, he said. Also, food choices were a bit limited.

With that said, I'll give you some points on POR and WL. First the disclaimer - WL is my favorite resort but I've only stayed at 4 (FW, POFQ, POR, and WL).

We just returned from a week at POR. My family liked the resort very much, especially the food court. POR has a full service restaurant and a food court. The POR food court is better than the WL food court, hands down. Larger, more cash registers, better variety of food, including pizza made right on site. Overall resort theming is very nice. We stayed in Alligator Bayou, 1636 (lodge 16, room 1636). Rooms open to the outdoors. No balconies. The rooms are very nice - fridge, double sinks, sleeps 5 (hide-a-bed underneath one of the beds). The beds are double beds. To get to the main area (conceirege, food court, store), you have to walk outdoors. POR is a huge resort and its easy to get lost. The pathways amble around and you need to follow resort signs to make sure your headed in the right direction. The pool was fun. Its shaped like an bowling pin with an "island" in the center of the lower portion. Overall, its not very wide and it tended to get crowded. The slide was VERY SLOW. Both times I tried it I nearly got stuck for lack of water movement. POR has a marina, boat rentals, a boat to DTD and surrey bike rentals. The general store is pretty large and has a good variety of merchandise. The grounds are beautiful with ample wildlife (rabbits, ducks, geese, etc.). Overall rating, A-/B+.

Now WL. The theming is impeccable. The foyer area is AMAZING. A 6 story fireplace which is made to resemble the Grand Canyon rock striations. Everything is enclosed (rooms open to interior hallways) so you never walk outside to get to restaurants, store, concereige. The rooms at WL are slightly larger than at POR. Rooms have two queen beds or a queen and a bunk bed., two sinks, fridge and a balcony that you can relax on. Rooms sleep 4. The store is good size and carries a good variety of merchandise. I think the pool is nicer at WL and the slide definitely is faster. WL has a variety of children's activities (rubber duck races on the waterfall/river area, crafts, etc.). The location is nice - just a boat ride from the MK. They have a marina and rent boats and surrey bikes. You can walk over to FW to the petting zoo from WL. But here are the things I enjoy most: When you drive up, the guard always says "Welcome Home." Just makes you feel like part of the family (the guard at POR never said that and we drove back onto POR property at least once a day). WL plays music evocative of the American west (Aaron Copland's Rodeo, music from Silverado and Dances with Wolves, etc.) everywhere around the resort. I always wake up early in the morning, sit out on the balcony and just listen to the music - very relaxing and totally immersive. WL tends to be a very relaxing, quiet resort. By the pool it can get noisy, but you can be put in rooms that are VERY quiet and very relaxing. Plain and simple, the food court at WL stinks. This is the one major complaint I have with the resort. Its not big enough, especially in the morning, and doesn't offer enough variety of foods.

Buses: POR buses tended to be full. They pickup/drop off at POFQ first, then circle around to all 4 of the POR stops. It took about 10 minutes just to get off resort property. WL buses never seemed to be as full as POR buses. Yes, you share with FW but they still seemed to run more efficiently than what I experienced at POR. At night, PO resort buses tended to be the most crowded (I guess PO guest like to stay out late). I looked at other stops and none were as crowded as PO buses.

My 7 yr old son said he like POR but missed WL. My 11 year old liked the food court at POR and to her it was a tie. My wife likes WL better. I definitely like WL better. But you pay more for WL - on the order of $50 more per night.

If you stay at WL or POR, I suggest you build in time to enjoy the resort. WL and POR CAN allow you to relax, if you take time off from the parks and explore what each has to offer. If you spend most of your time at the parks, then go with whats cheap and spend the extra $ in the parks.
