How To Convince My Wife...

I'm not sure which category this would actually fit under on this forum, so I'm posting it here.

DW does not post on this (or any) forum. However, she does lurk around and read some of the posts. I believe she is a closet Disney fanatic. Even though she says that we're going just because of DD, and because I bugged the you-know-what out of her to go back, I know that she loves WDW just as much as I do.

Anyway, since our last trip, her health has gotten worse. Without going into detail, because she wouldn't want me to, she has some pretty serious back issues. She's still able to walk, even though she should be using some sort of assistance (ie: walker, cane, etc.) As it is right now, she is unable to get out of bed in the morning until her pain meds kick in. And even with that, she needs to take her meds on schedule through out the day to be able to continue to walk unassisted. The reason she still struggles to walk on her own is because A) she's stubborn, B) she gets embarrased easily, and C) she is only 35. She looks very young. In fact, she still gets carded to buy cigarettes and lotto tickets.

What I'm trying to do is convince her that she will need a scooter to get around WDW. Like I said, she reads the posts, and has read quite a few negative comments in regards to those who use scooters. She's against using a scooter because she doesn't want to get heckled and ridiculed and made to feel embarrased based on her appearance. You can't tell that there is anything physically wrong with her just by looking at her. I empathize with her on this. But, from my perspective, I'd rather her use a scooter to get around, instead of be in pain all day and have a miserable time.

I'd like to convince her ahead of time so that I can rent a scooter for her in advance. Please help! And one quick question...if she decides once we're there that she needs one, can we rent one then? Or does it have to be done in advance?

Thanks!

I don't think most people using ECVs at WDW actually encounter heckling or ridicule. The threads here on ECVs and disabilities tend to attract posters with strong opinions, so reading them can create a misleading impression of how many guests at WDW waste their time and energy resenting ECV users.
