Be truthful, how rough a ride is it?
My kids are 6&8. Both thin and tall. Just wondering whether we should even try it.My son is 6 and loves Dinos, but not sure what to expect on this ride. They sure don't show enough on the planning video.
Is it very scary as some suggest?
I'm thinking I should try it myself and then decide then whether the kids will like it.
What do you all think? I know everyone is different. But just wondering what other parents think.

IMO, on an intensity scale of 1 to 10, I give Dinosaur an 8.

The ride takes place completely in the dark. The ride vehicle jerks around a lot. It can be very loud at some points in the ride.

So if your kids can handle being jerked around and aren't scared of the dark or loud noises, they should be fine, if not, then skip it.

I think that is a very scary ride for kids. You move pretty fast in the dark and the noises are quite loud. And if you sit in the back row, it can be very bumpy and thrilling. It is sort of like a motion simulator on a track. However, if they are Dino fans, I think they will be fine.

My advice would be request the front row and have the kids sit in the middle. I'm sure you will get other input from parents, but I would say if you could, ride it first for yourself. However if the line is too long for that, give it a try. I've seen many kids come off scared and rattled, but I've seen more kids enjoy the heck out of it. And as you said, everyone is different.

Have a great trip.

We took 5 year old boy who absolutely loves dinosaurs. He loved it! Despite the glaring look we got from the cm loading us. No kidding, she gave us a look like we should be arrested and shook her head as if in disbelief that we would be taking him on the ride. Anyway...we had talked to him about it a lot ahead of time so he knew exactly what to expect and didn't push the issue. We left it up to him and would have opted out immediately if he seemed at all upset or afraid. We also put him in the middle. He loved it and came off with a huge grin on his face and still talks about how great it was a year later! With that said, it is pretty rough, dark and very loud.

If you possibly can, you should ride first to see for yourself. No one knows your children better than you and after experiencing it for yourself, you'll have a much better sense of how they will do.

Yeah, I've got a very short, and very brave five year old girl who loves all the rides she can go on except Splash Mountain (go figure). I've gotten comments from both guests and CMs before for taking her on some rides, but she loves them! She also liked Dinosaur, but my seven year old found it to be one of the few rides that made him a bit queasy.

Just My Opinion, Nothing Else:

I'd be very careful about making this decision. When I worked at "It's Tough To Be a Bug" we had over a dozen kids this age who we had to escort out (of each show). My friends at Dinosaur had horror stories about young children riding the attraction.

With that said: 8 is as young as I would take on the ride. I personally enjoyed the ride before they tamed it down, but I can see why: It's dark, loud and jerky. I would put a red flag up on the 6 year old.

Had to post...I find this ride terrifying, but I'm a big 35 year old chicken. The motion and speed do not bother me, though it definetely is jerky. It's the dark & noise and, I have to be honest, how real the dinos look to me. I bought into the ride 100 per cent and pretty much figured I was going to get eaten. However, the 8 year olds on the seat behind me laughed at me the whole time.

I do like the concept of telling the kids they are saving a dino and the jeep is too fast too get caught.

Its rough, its loud and its in your face - but boy is it good. I think your kids will be fine (just tell them to hold tight) and close their eyes if they need to - its only make belief afterall

We took our 8 year old and 4 year (I know some may think we're crazy) on this in 2004. They are both as you described your sons, tall and thin. We did nothing special to prepare them, other than tell them it's only a ride and Mom and Dad are right here with you. They both loved it and want to ride it again on our trip this coming September. It is a little rough and I guess could be scary to some, but we enjoyed it. Honestly, you are the best judge of what your boys can handle. It may be best for you to ride it first, then make your decision.

My son first rode Dinosaur! as a 3 (almost 4) year old. He has always loved dinosaurs, and now at age 9, plans to be a paleontologist. He loves this ride, but nothing really bothers my son, as he also rode on Tower of Terror at age 3. However, we have friends whose daughter rode at age 7 and she was hysterical after the ride. I think both your children are old enough physically, but you just need to think about whether they have trouble separating reality from fantasy. I think that is what it really boils down to. I agree with the poster who recommended a seat in the front. The back row really shakes you up.

AGE 3?!? You've got to be kidding me. ToT and Dinosaur at 3?!? I'm calling your bluff. Both rides have height requirements of at least 3 feet. I don't know ANY 3 year olds that tall.

I would have to agree, the ride is between a 7 and 9, but what makes it more intense is the fact that it's sooooo loud. Before the family and I enter the ride we put in industrial ear protectors, they do not block all the sound so you enjoy the attraction alot more.

He was three, but only a few weeks away from being 4. He has always been tall for his age.
