How Old Were You When The Parents Kicked The Stroller To The Curb

Exactly, there are too many strollers at WDW. Have you ever tried riding the busses at night? There's barely enough room for actual people, but add to that all of the folded up strollers, its absolutely ridiculous. I hate the argument, "it doesn't affect you", uh yeah it kind of does. When you can barely make it around WDW because you have kids in strollers who can walk just fine then there IS a problem. You don't have to agree with my opinion, but don't try to invalidate it either.

Edited to add: I may hate strollers, but they are small change when in comparison to the ECV problem at WDW.

I do not use Disney busses so I do not affect you..:D

I don't even remember ever being in a stroller. I think I either walked when I could, or was carried by my parents when I was a toddler.

Yup. Same here.

People today act like strollers are a necessity, but they also think you need to bring 75LBS of crap with you everywhere they go as well. Somehow most of us grew up with neither.

When a school-aged child is in a stroller, unless they have a disability, something is very wrong.

That is YOUR opinion..it is not a fact!

I think everyone seems to think that they are God and they make the rules..just because you THINK something should be one way does not make it right or fact!

The only thing very wrong in MY OPINION is that too many people worry about what other people are doing!

I feel bad that it seems, IMO..;)..that most of the people complaining about PETTY things that do not concern them are not enjoying their Disney trips the way us people pushing our kids in strollers are..:D

I have never in my 37 years of going to Disney ..even before pushing my child in a stroller ever had an instance where I was bothered or could not walk or get anywhere because of a stroller or strollers!

Thank you, Captain Obvious. ;)

Maggie, did you not mention your child was a premie and the size of a child half her age? Obviously that is a special situation, which I believe I covered when I said a school-aged child with a disability. I'm sorry if that word offends you, perhaps I should have said, "medical or other needs".

But, as I said, kind of obvious - it was my opinion, and I posted it. For an average, physically developing child, yes, to be school aged and in a stroller is crazy, IN MY OPINION. I can't imagine it. Just like a large amount of people in this thread. I don't need to go into all the reasons why - many others already have.

Forgive me for being so forward, but if people's postings really offend you this much, maybe it's not great to read threads like this. Anything anyone posts is opinion, and if you can't handle other people's opinions (especially those that line up to what the majority of people believe) it's probably best not to expose yourself to them if they agitate you so.

I would say if you wouldn't use a stroller for a child outside of Disney, then you shouldn't use one inside. Just my opinion though and I don't make up the rules.

I don't think my mother ever owned a stroller when we were kids. I think they made them way back then :D. I know that my Gramma had a wagon that she would take when we walked "to town" to pick up the mail, etc. It was about 3/4 to a mile round trip. We would walk as far as we could and only get in the wagon if we couldn't make it. Hey, with two older brothers along you tried not to whimp out and get in the wagon. :ROFLOL:
All I can say on this debate is, I will not be party to taking my 5 grandchildren to WDW until there is no stroller involved! As active as they are, that won't be long:animwink:. I want them to be able to walk about the parks for most of the day, with breaks. I would also like them to be big enough to wear their little packs on their person for their own "must haves". Hey, if Grandma has to carry her own stuff I think they should too. It will probably reduce the amount of "must have stuff" they think they need.

Strollers and ECVs contribute to the crowding at WDW, but they are not the only cause.

But, as long as some guests have a definite need for them, while others just have a want, they will be there until WDW decides that it's a problem. And it becomes tiresome to have the same arguments about who really needs them, and who just wants them.

They are allowed, and if a guest feels that he/she needs assistance to enjoy a day in the parks (be it using a stroller or ECV) so be it.

strollers

never took our children until they was old enough to walk and to remember their disney world adventure. They were 5 when they were out of strollers. First trip was when they were 11 and 9 only due to medical problems with my oldest daughter.

I got kicked out of the stroller when I was three. And that was that.

What you're seeing now is a bunch of GenXers subconsciously giving the proverbial finger to their parents who once denied them strollers. Unfortunately these are also the same parents who feel that their rampaging demons (aka children) are just kids being kids and every once in a while don't give them a very well deserved swat on the behind.

Call me jaded but you spend three months of your life parking strollers for guests with children that are clearly old enough to walk (and the parents are just too lazy to actually discipline their kids and MAKE them walk) and you start to develop a solid idea of how you DON'T want to be a parent to your future kids.

So, the majority of opinions here are by those who were either hugged too much by Mommy, or not enough?

Either way, no matter what direction the prattle takes, we don't know why parents do or don't use stroller for their kids. Perhaps we should just leave it at that. Everything else is just bovine excrement spouted to make ourselves feel superior.....

I wouldn't have phrased it exactly that way, but agree with the sentiment. I have my own opinion as to when a child should be out of a stroller, based on my own experience with my own children. Someone else may hold a different, yet equally valid, opinion based upon his/her own situation.

Arguing about it on the net is not going to change anyone's opinion. Now, if someone really wants to know how others feel, so that he/she can make a decision based on another's experience - go for it.

"I found that once my children were K or above the stroller was more trouble than it was worth" = helpful response.

"Anyone who uses a stroller for a child above x age is either lazy, doesn't know how to parent, or has a lazy spoiled brat" = insulting and likely starting an argument

Too many people fail to see the difference, and not just in this thread.

My kids are 5 and 7 and have been to Disney the past few years. Last year I did not bring a stroller but we instead decided to rent one if we needed it. We only ended up renting one at AK and Epcot. Otherwise they walked and they didn't complain. If we found they started to drag a bit we took a break and recooped before going on. We are going in Sept and I don't plan on getting a stroller but if I find we need one then I'll rent one. I see both sides of the coin on this debate. You can get more done if you have a stroller in some cases. Strollers are also nice to store things in and I have a 1:1 kid/parent ratio but with larger families, I could understand getting one just to make sure everyone is safe and together. My kids are VERY tall for their age so if I rent a stroller someone could likely say why would you get a stroller for a 9 and 7 year old? Quite honestly I could care less what others think, just like I could care less if someone actually does get a stroller for a 7 and 9 year old. It's not my family, so it's not my decision. It doesn't affect my vacation enjoyment.

Does the OP have kids of his own? Just curious, because I don't care how many cousins you have, if your not doing the world with some your own, it might be hard to really know what you would do if in the same boat.
Mine was only two last visit so I used a stroller(nothing big but better than an umbrella one), and while it's a little funny to see some kids so big their legs are hanging out I also think, how does this effect me? Kids often run right into you not looking etc. This seems to not be a major issue if you ask me.
